Book Synopsis Molecular Therapies of Cancer by : Georg F. Weber
Download or read book Molecular Therapies of Cancer written by Georg F. Weber and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular Therapies of Cancer comprehensively covers the molecular mechanisms of anti-cancer drug actions in a comparably systematic fashion. While there is currently available a great deal of literature on anti-cancer drugs, books on the subject are often concoctions of invited review articles superficially connected to one another. There is a lack of comprehensive and systematic text on the topic of molecular therapies in cancer. A further deficit in the relevant literature is a progressive sub-specialization that typically limits textbooks on cancer drugs to cover either pharmacology or medicinal chemistry or signal transduction, rather than explaining molecular drug actions across all those areas; Molecular Therapies of Cancer fills this void. The book is divided into five sections: 1. Molecular Targeting of Cancer Cells; 2. Emerging and Alternative Treatment Modalities; 3. Molecular Targeting of Tumor-Host Interactions; 4. Anti-Cancer Drug Pharmacokinetics; and 5. Supportive Therapies.

Book Synopsis Molecular Neurology by : Stephen Waxman
Download or read book Molecular Neurology written by Stephen Waxman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-07-26 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why a book on molecular neurology? Molecular neuroscience is advancing at a spectacular rate. As it does so, it is revealing important clues to the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of neurological diseases, and to the therapeutic targets that they present. Medicines work by targeting molecules. The more specific the targeting, the more specific the actions, and the fewer the side effects. Molecular Neurology highlights, for graduate and MD-PhD students, research fellows and research-oriented clinical fellows, and researchers in the neurosciences and other biomedical sciences, the principles underlying molecular medicine as related to neurology. Written by internationally recognized experts, this well-illustrated and well-referenced book presents the most up-to-date principles and disease examples relevant to molecular neurology, and reviews the concepts, strategies, and latest progress in this field. This book will interest anyone studying the molecular basis of neurology, or developing new therapies in neurology. - Describes the newest molecular aspects of neurological disorders - Provides an introduction to neurological disorders for basic scientists - Updates clinicians and clinical researchers on the most recent developments

Book Synopsis Alphaherpesviruses by : Sandra Knowles Weller
Download or read book Alphaherpesviruses written by Sandra Knowles Weller and published by Caister Academic Press Limited. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alphaherpesviruses are a fascinating group of DNA viruses that includes important human pathogens such as herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), HSV-2, and varicella-zoster virus (VZV): the causative agents of cold sores, genital ulcerous disease, and chickenpox/shingles, respectively. A key attribute of these viruses is their ability to establish lifelong latent infection in the peripheral nervous system of the host. Such persistence requires subversion of the host's immune system and intrinsic antiviral defense mechanisms. Understanding the mechanisms of the immune evasion and what triggers viral reactivation is a major challenge for today's researchers. This has prompted enormous research efforts into understanding the molecular and cellular biology of these viruses. This up-to-date and comprehensive volume aims to distill the most important research in this area providing a timely overview of the field. Topics covered include: transcriptional regulation, DNA replication, translational control, virus entry and capsid assembly, the role of microRNAs in infection and oncolytic vectors for cancer therapy. In addition there is coverage of virus-host interactions, including apoptosis, subversion of host protein quality control and DNA damage response pathways, autophagy, establishment and reactivation from latency, interferon responses, immunity and vaccine development. Essential reading for everyone working with alphaherpesviruses and of interest to all virologists working on latent infections.

Book Synopsis Principles of Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics by : Russ B. Altman
Download or read book Principles of Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics written by Russ B. Altman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-23 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics focuses on how our genes and complex gene systems influence our response to drugs. Recent progress in clinical therapeutics has led to the discovery of new biomarkers that make it technically easier to identify groups of patients which are more or less likely to respond to individual therapies. The aim is to improve personalised medicine - not simply to prescribe the right medicine, but to deliver the right drug at the right dose at the right time. This textbook brings together leading experts to discuss the latest information on how human genetics impacts drug response phenotypes. It presents not only the basic principles of pharmacogenetics, but also clinically valuable examples that cover a broad range of specialties and therapeutic areas. This textbook is an invaluable introduction to pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics for health care professionals, medical students, pharmacy students, graduate students and researchers in the biosciences.

Book Synopsis Differentiation of B Lymphocytes by : Christopher J. Paige
Download or read book Differentiation of B Lymphocytes written by Christopher J. Paige and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-12-08 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid progress continues to be made in understanding the molecular and cellular events that comprise B-Iymphocyte differentiation. This is due in part to the high level of inter est shown by many investigators from diverse disciplines, who find this subject suitable for addressing some of the fundamental issues of immunobiology. B-cell developmen tal models are being extensively used to investigate cell-cell interactions, molecular mediators of differentiation and proliferation, differential onset of gene programs, and gene rearrangement and expression, as well as the generation of the immune response itself. Not surprisingly, increased understanding of B-cell differentiation sometimes results from the application of new techniques that permit greater insight into the cells comprising the system and the genetic mechanisms by which these cells express their differentiative potential. However, experimental strategies based upon the novel application of established technologies have also led to the clarification of many issues, as well as to the discov ery of previously unrecognized problems. One problem, well recognized by those active in the field, is how to keep up with significant developments as they appear. The purpose of this book, part of a series devoted to analysing current issues in biology, is to help overcome this problem. No attempt at comprehensive cov erage of all of the issues has been made. Rather, a more thorough analysis of a few topics is presented.
