Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the short-term skeletal and dental effects that occur as a result of Class II malocclusion correction utilizing the Carrière! Distalizer as compared to best-matched controls. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort cephalometric study using lateral cephalometric films of 25 (14 male, 11 female, average age 13y 6m) class II patients consecutively treated with the Carrière Distalizer compared with 36 (19 male, 17 female, 13y 2m) untreated class II control subjects from a historical database best-matched based upon age, sex and skeletal classifications. Pretreatment and posttreatment lateral head films were analyzed with conventional cephalometric analysis to evaluate treatment effects. Results: Class II correction was accomplished by 2.46 apical base change, 1.24 mm distal movement of the maxillary movement, 4.8° distal tip and 2.64 mm mesial movement of the mandibular molars. Other profound treatment changes occurred include significant increased lower incisor proclination, 4.83° and a steepened functional occlusal plane, 1.3°. Conclusion: The Carrière Distalizer is an effective means to establish a class I occlusal platform in approximately 4 months during the initial phase of comprehensive orthodontic treatment.

Book Synopsis Distalization in Orthodontics by : Patel Pratik
Download or read book Distalization in Orthodontics written by Patel Pratik and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-23 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Distalization of maxillary molars helps to gain space which can be utilized to correct mild to moderate problems in the maxillary arch. It is done to push the maxillary and/or mandibular terminal molars posteriorly. This increases the arch length by the same length as the amount of distalization achieved. Distalization is usually undertaken before the eruption of the second permanent molars. Non-extraction treatment of Class II malocclusion frequently requires upper molar distalization into a final Class I relationship.
