Vorreiter dieser Strategie war Zeit seines Lebens der populäre Börsenspekulant André Kostolany. Der Sinn dieser Strategie besteht darin, Aktien zu kaufen, ein Schlafmittel zu nehmen, nach Jahren wieder aufzuwachen und sich über immense Reichtümer zu freuen, so zumindest formulierte es einst Kostolany. Bei dieser Art der Anlagestrategie steht und fällt alles mit dem Timing. Schaut man sich den Kursverlauf der vergangenen Dekade im Chart des Deutschen Aktienindex an wird dies sehr deutlich. Hätte beispielsweise ein Anleger im April 2004 bei 2.500 Indexpunkten ein Indexzertifikat auf den DAX gekauft und legt man den aktuellen DAX-Stand von 7.000 Zählern (Januar 2011) zu Grunde, wäre innerhalb von 6 1/2 Jahren eine ansehnliche Rendite von ca. 280% erzielt wurden. Wäre das gleiche Investment allerdings im Oktober 2007 getätigt wurden, also ein Kauf bei 8.000 Dax-Zählern, stünde aktuell ein Verlust von knapp 12,5% zu Buche. Würde man die entgangenen Zinsen der vergangenen drei Jahre hinzurechnen, fällt das Ergebnis noch deutlich schlechter aus. Um als Anleger nachhaltig erfolgreich an den Aktienmärkten agieren zu können, stehen zwei Analyseverfahren der Aktienkursprognose zur Verfügung. Es handelt sich dabei um die technische und die fundamentale Aktienanalyse. Beide Analyseansätze versuchen, dasselbe Problem zu lösen, nämlich die Richtung zu bestimmen, in die sich der Kurs wahrscheinlich bewegen wird.
