Beinahe täglich schreibt die Presse einen Artikel über die Modediagnose Burnout. So zum Beispiel berichtete das Online Magazin zeus Medienwelten am 31.05.2013 detailliert darüber, dass Burnout mittlerweile wohl zur Volkskrankheit geworden sei, da man aktuell allein im EU-Raum etwa 30 Millionen Betroffene zählt. Das Phänomen Burnout ist in den 1970-er Jahren erstmals öffentlich in den USA in Verbindung mit dem Pflegepersonal erwähnt worden und daher noch relativ neu. Mittlerweile hat sich die Krankheit enorm ausgebreitet und kommt in beinahe jeder Berufssparte vor. Da die Aktualität dieser Thematik auch im Jahr 2013 besonders gegeben ist, widmet sich diese Arbeit dem Themenbereich Burnout im Betrieb. Dabei soll das Ziel verfolgt werden, die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen von Burnout im Betrieb verständlich darzulegen. Um dieses zu erreichen, weist die Arbeit den folgenden Aufbau auf: Die Ausarbeitung beginnt mit der Definition des Begriffes Burnout sowie die Entstehung der Krankheit. Anschließend wird die Häufigkeitsverteilung von Burnout beschrieben. Danach sollen die Möglichkeiten von Burnout im Betrieb dargelegt werden. Dass und warum diese Chancen einer Einschränkung unterliegen, wird im selben Kapitel aufgezeigt. Anschließend sollen diese Möglichkeiten und Grenzen anhand eines Beispiels aus der Praxis verdeutlicht werden. Zum Schluss folgt eine Zusammenfassung der wichtigsten Erkenntnisse, die sich aus dieser Arbeit ergaben. 2. Definition und Entstehung von Burnout Beim Betrachten des Forschungsstandes zur Thematik Burnout fällt sofort auf, das eine einheitliche und damit von allen Forschern akzeptierte Definition des Krankheitsbilds fehlt. Dadurch wird die folgende Forschungsfrage mittels wissenschaftlich begründeter Literaturrecherche beantwortet: Kann die betriebliche Weiterbildung einen Betrag zur Prävention von Burnout in Unternehmen leisten? Wenn ja, wie sollte diese gestaltet sein? Nachdem Problemstellung, Zielsetzung und Vorgehensweise der Arbeit in der Einleitung geklärt werden, erfolgt eine Abgrenzung gegenüber nicht behandelten Themenfeldern, da diese Problemstellung ein sehr breites Spektrum bietet. Zur Einführung in die Thematik Burnout findet eine Begriffsdefinition basierend auf Fachliteratur statt. Die Auftrittshäufigkeit von Burnout in Unternehmen wird anhand aktueller Berichte der Krankenkassen belegt. Daran anschließend werden die Ursachen von Burnout aufgezeigt sowie die Einflussfaktoren auf die psychische Gesundheit mithilfe der Selbstbestimmungs-Theorie und den drei Faktoren des Kohärenzgefühls näher beleuchtet. In Kapitel drei definiert die Autorin einleitend den Begriff betriebliche Weiterbildung und belegt den Nutzen dieser anhand aktueller Forschungsberichte, mit besonderer Betrachtung der sogenannten "wider benefits" von Bildung. Um die Möglichkeiten der betrieblichen Weiterbildung als Präventivmaßnahme gegen Burnout darzustellen, werden die Erkenntnisse über deren Nutzen mit den Ursachen von Burnout verknüpft und evaluiert. Anschließend werden daraus Handlungsempfehlungen abgeleitet. Dem folgt eine kritische Diskussion der Ergebnisse, in der auch die Grenzen der Arbeit aufgeführt werden und mögliche zukünftige Forschungsfragen benannt werden. Die Arbeit schließt mit einem Fazit ab, das die wichtigsten Ergebnisse zusammenfasst.

Work can adversely affect our health, well beyond the usual counts of injuries that we think of as 'occupational health'. The ways in which work is organized - its pace and intensity, degree of control over the work process, sense of justice, and employment security, among other things - can be as toxic to the health of workers as the chemicals in the air. These work characteristics can be detrimental not only to mental well-being but to physical health. Scientists refer to these features of work as 'hazards' of the 'psychosocial' work environment. One key pathway from the work environment to illness is through the mechanism of stress; thus we speak of 'stressors' in the work environment, or 'work stress'. This is in contrast to the popular psychological understandings of 'stress', which locate many of the problems with the individual rather than the environment. In this book we advance a social environmental understanding of the workplace and health. Anna Kuliscioff (ca. 1854-1925) was a prominent figure in the revolutionary politics of her era, advocating for socialism and feminism. One of the founding members of the Italian Socialist Party, she actively contributed to the late-nineteenth-century flourishing of the Socialist International and the emergence of Italian socialism. For the last decades of her life, Kuliscioff's public militancy revolved around the "woman question." She viewed feminism through the lens of class struggle, addressing the double exploitation of women--in the workplace and at home. Kuliscioff fought a twofold battle: as a socialist, she unmasked the sexism of her colleagues; as a feminist, she criticized liberal-bourgeois feminism. In this key text, she makes her case for a socialist feminism. Originating as a lecture Kuliscioff delivered in April 1890 at a meeting of the the Milan Philological Circle (which denied membership to women), The Monopoly of Man explicitly links feminism to labor. Kuliscioff argues that labor frees women from the prison of the household and potentially fosters their emancipation; she advances the principle of equal pay for equal work. She declares that woman is enslaved by both her husband and by capital, calls marriage a form of women's servitude, and demands that motherhood be better appreciated as work. It is only when woman is economically independent and resists capitalism, she argues, that she will achieve freedom, dignity, and the respect of man.
