Nicht zuletzt durch die Medien wird uns dies immer wieder – und zum Teil stark zugespitzt – ins Bewusstsein gerufen. Zudem, so wird häufig verkündet, fördere der aktuelle, durch Globalisierung, Wettbewerb und Individualismus geprägte Zeitgeist die Herausbildung egoistischer, asozialer Verhaltensweisen. Tatsächlich scheint das Ausmaß an Gewalt insgesamt, zumindest in der Wahrnehmung von Schulleitern und Lehrern, zuzunehmen, wobei dies vor allem anhand einer Verrohung des Umgangstons, Vandalismus und Körperverletzung festzustellen sei. Bei Diebstahl, Erpressung und Sexualdelikten stellen die Befragten keinen Zuwachs fest. Auf der anderen Seite gibt eine „nicht geringe“ Anzahl von Schulen an, keinen Anstieg bei kriminellen Verhalten beobachten zu können, gleichwohl lasse sich aber eine Zunahme verhaltensauffälliger und gestörter Kinder feststellen. Aggressives Verhalten und Gewalt treten am häufigsten in Sonderschulen auf. Am zweit häufigsten betroffen sind Sekundarschulen (Gesamt- und Realschulen), gefolgt von berufsbildenden Schulen und Grundschulen. Am wenigsten Aggressives Verhalten und Gewalt sind an Gymnasien zu beobachten. Vor dem Hintergrund insgesamt doch zunehmender Aggressionshandlungen an Schulen, erscheinen Interventionskompetenzen auf Lehrerseite umso dringender geboten. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, Möglichkeiten für den Umgang mit aggressivem Verhalten an Schulen aufzuzeigen, wobei sowohl auf konkrete, akute Situationen als auch auf langfristige Prozesse eingegangen wird. Eine theoretische Betrachtung aggressiven Verhaltens dabei geht den Interventionsmöglichkeiten voraus.

Das Problem Gewalt in der Schule rückte immer mehr ins öffentliche erschreckende Einzelfälle berichtet haben. Wesentlicher Auslöser der Diskussion war u.a. die Annahme, die Gewaltbereitschaft unter Kindern habe insgesamt und in erheblichem Maße zugenommen. Dabei wurde von Ohnmachtsgefühlen bei der Regelung von Konflikten, dem Versagen der herkömmlichen Erziehungsmittel und den Schwierigkeiten, den alltäglichen Aggressionen und Streitigkeiten in den Klassen und auf dem Schulgelände kompetent zu begegnen, berichtet. Diese dramatischen Ereignisse, die besonders von den Medien aufgegriffen wurden, bilden sicherlich sehr extreme Formen von Aggression in Schulen. Neben diesen Formen existieren in der Schule allerdings auch andere Erscheinungsformen von Aggression, die mittlerweile fest zum schulischen Alltag zu gehören scheinen. Zu erwähnen wären an dieser Stelle: Ängstigen, Bedrohen, Auflauern, Hänseln, Quälen, Provozieren, Pöbeln, Erpressen, Schlagen, Berauben, Verletzen, Kleidung beschädigen, Vandalismus etc. Die Debatte der 90er Jahre zum Thema „Gewalt an Schulen“ hat dazu geführt, dass sich eine Vielzahl wissenschaftlicher Untersuchungen mit diesem Gegenstand beschäftigt hat. Die Forschung hat sich dabei zunächst auf die Erklärung der Entstehungsbedingungen von Aggression und Gewalt konzentriert und in diesem Zusammenhang auch zahlreiche Vorschläge und komplexe Modelle zur „Gewaltprävention“ ausgearbeitet. Neben vielen anderen sinnvollen Ansätzen im Bereich der Gewaltprävention hat sich die “Streitschlichtung“ an vielen Schulen als ein zentraler Baustein entwickelt. Streitschlichtung ist ein erfolgreiches Konzept, das sich in den letzen Jahren wie ein “Buschfeuer“ ausgebreitet hat: Zunächst an einzelnen Schulen, in kürzester Zeit bereits an Hunderten von Schulen in vielen Bundesländern. Trainingshandbücher mit Übungen gibt es viele am Markt. Das Streitschlichterprogramm auch als Peer-Mediation bekannt, wird als probates Mittel zur Deeskalation von Gewalt und zur konstruktiven Lösung von Konflikten eingesetzt.

Der Blick in die Medien zeigt, dass das Thema Kinder und Jugendgewalt auch aktuell eine besondere Aufmerksamkeit erfährt und wir begegnen immer wieder Schlagzeilen wie: „Jedes 4. Kind auffällig aggressiv“, „Elfjähriger Junge erpresst Mitschüler“, „Aggression im Kindergarten: Erzieherinnen in Not“, oder „Massenschlägerei in Hauptschule“. Zuletzt ging bundesweit ein Aufschrei durch Medien, Gesellschaft und Politik angesichts der brutalen Übergriffe von Jugendlichen in den U- Bahnhöfen Berlin Lichtenberg und Friedrichstraße. Hier überfielen jugendliche Täter ihre Opfer auf brutalste Art und Weise und verletzen diese zum Teil lebensgefährlich. Die Bilder der Überwachungskamera sind erschreckend und zeigen ein unglaubliches Ausmaß an Aggression und Gewalt. Vermehrt kursieren auch solche, oder ähnlich selbst gedrehte Filme mit Gewaltszenen auf dem Schulhof, im Internet oder werden unter den Kindern und Jugendlichen getauscht und als eine Art „Trophäe“ in der Clique stolz herumgezeigt. Die Aggressionsbereitschaft unter Kindern und Jugendlichen scheint also höher denn je zu sein. Als angehende Erzieher hat uns die Frage besonders interessiert, inwieweit Gesellschaft, Medien, Familie, Kita/Schule und Peer-Groups die Entstehung von aggressivem Verhalten bei Kindern und Jugendlichen beeinflussen und vorbeugen können?! ...

The techniques employed in such analysis first took on a recognizably modern form in the 1970s, but their roots go back to the earliest days of motion picture technology in the late nineteenth century. This book presents original essays accompanied by written responses which together create a dialogue exploring early efforts at audio-visual sequence analysis and their common goal to capture the "whole" of the communicative situation. The first three chapters of this volume look at the film-based research of Gestalt psychologists in Berlin as well as psychologists in the orbit of Karl and Charlotte Bühler in Vienna in the first decades of the twentieth century. Most of these figures – along with many other Central European scholars of this era – were driven into exile in the United States after the rise of National Socialism in the 1930s. This scientific migration led to the cross-pollination of communication studies in America, an outcome visible in the leading project in interaction research of the mid-twentieth century, the Natural History of an Interview. The following two chapters examine this project in its historical context. The volume closes with a critical edition of a treasure from the archives: the transcript of a speech delivered by Ray Birdwhistell, a key participant in the Natural History of an Interview project and founder of kinesics.

The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. Web Science is the emergent study of the people and technologies, applications, processes and practices that shape and are shaped by the World Wide Web. Web Science aims to draw together theories, methods and findings from across academic disciplines, and to collaborate with industry, business, government and civil society, to develop our knowledge and understanding of the Web: the largest socio-technical network in human history. This year we were very pleased to receive 113 submissions for the regular research track. Given the high quality of submissions, it has been a hard job to decide which of the contributions to select for the conference. We are grateful for the support of the Program Committee which consisted of 10 senior members and 35 regular members. All PC members worked hard, based on which we could select an interesting, varied, exciting program comprising 30 long and 15 short papers.

The IICAPS (Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services) program, initially implemented by the authors in 1996, offers an alternative treatment paradigm for families. Adopted at thirteen sites across Connecticut, IICAPS has proven effective in reducing the need for inpatient and other institutional-based services. Intended for health providers and planners, this book addresses the service system issues that confront child and adolescent mental health providers today. The authors fully explain and outline the IICAPS treatment approach. They conclude with a discussion of some of the unresolved challenges related to home-based care for children with serious psychiatric disorders.
