Book Synopsis Computational Intelligence, III by : G. Valle
Download or read book Computational Intelligence, III written by G. Valle and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-07-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years AI has been experiencing a deep internal debate on the appropriateness of the symbolic-based paradigm and all of its consequences. While various symbolic representation schemes, as well as their integration, have been proposed, their limitations have continuously pushed researchers for improved versions or entirely new ones. New viewpoints such as the complex dynamic-based approach with neural nets can be regarded simply as new problem solving techniques with specific properties. Under this perspective, what seems to be important is the ability to combine heterogeneous representation and problem-solving techniques. Research on heterogeneous, intelligent systems goes hand in hand with research on specific problem solving methods and paradigms, therefore representing their conceptual and practical glueing element. The papers contained in this proceedings are just one instance of such awareness activity in the international scientific community.

Book Synopsis Innovation in the Service Economy by : Faïz Gallouj
Download or read book Innovation in the Service Economy written by Faïz Gallouj and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whilst contemporary economies are innovative, they are also predominantly service economies in so much as services are the main source of wealth and employment. However, there is still considerable unwillingness to consider innovation in terms of services, a paradox rooted in an obsolete conception which regards manufacturing as the only engine of growth. In this book, the author propounds a theoretical framework which describes and evaluates the main approaches to analyzing and understanding innovation in services. He provides interesting and extensive empirical material on the nature and sources of innovation in various services sectors and countries, and makes an original contribution both to theories of innovation in services and theories of innovation in general. Taking both an evolutionary and conventionalist stance, he demonstrates that services, and more importantly innovations in services, can be regarded as the new wealth of nations.
Book Synopsis Expert Systems in Public Administration by : I. Th. M. Snellen
Download or read book Expert Systems in Public Administration written by I. Th. M. Snellen and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1989 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments regarding the introduction/development of expert systems are discussed in this book and some expert systems in use are described. Questions are examined such as what are the functions which expert systems technology fulfills in public administration and which typical applications are developed? The four-rationalities model (political, legal, economical and technical-scientific rationality) which was developed by Snellen is used to show the specific nature of public administration which should be taken into account when discussing possibilities, threats as well as opportunities, regarding the introduction of expert systems in public administration.

Book Synopsis Modeling with Rules Using Semantic Knowledge Engineering by : Grzegorz J. Nalepa
Download or read book Modeling with Rules Using Semantic Knowledge Engineering written by Grzegorz J. Nalepa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-04 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a consistent methodology for building intelligent systems. It puts forward several formal models for designing and implementing rules-based systems, and presents illustrative case studies of their applications. These include software engineering, business process systems, Semantic Web, and context-aware systems on mobile devices. Rules offer an intuitive yet powerful method for representing human knowledge, and intelligent systems based on rules have many important applications. However, their practical development requires proper techniques and models - a gap that this book effectively addresses.
