This book was released on 2022-12-12 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Mathematical Methods for Scientists and Engineers is a modern introduction to basic topics in mathematics at the undergraduate level, with emphasis on explanations and applications to real-life problems. There is also an 'Application' section at the end of each chapter, with topics drawn from a variety of areas, including neural networks, fluid dynamics, and the behavior of 'put' and 'call' options in financial markets. The book presents several modern important and computationally efficient topics, including feedforward neural networks, wavelets, generalized functions, stochastic optimization methods, and numerical methods.A unique and novel feature of the book is the introduction of a recently developed method for solving partial differential equations (PDEs), called the unified transform. PDEs are the mathematical cornerstone for describing an astonishingly wide range of phenomena, from quantum mechanics to ocean waves, to the diffusion of heat in matter and the behavior of financial markets. Despite the efforts of many famous mathematicians, physicists and engineers, the solution of partial differential equations remains a challenge. The unified transform greatly facilitates this task. For example, two and a half centuries after Jean d'Alembert formulated the wave equation and presented a solution for solving a simple problem for this equation, the unified transform derives in a simple manner a generalization of the d'Alembert solution, valid for general boundary value problems. Moreover, two centuries after Joseph Fourier introduced the classical tool of the Fourier series for solving the heat equation, the unified transform constructs a new solution to this ubiquitous PDE, with important analytical and numerical advantages in comparison to the classical solutions. The authors present the unified transform pedagogically, building all the necessary background, including functions of real and of complex variables and the Fourier transform, illustrating the method with numerous examples.Broad in scope, but pedagogical in style and content, the book is an introduction to powerful mathematical concepts and modern tools for students in science and engineering.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Methods for Engineers and Geoscientists by : Olga Waelder
Download or read book Mathematical Methods for Engineers and Geoscientists written by Olga Waelder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-01-22 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating work makes the link between the rarified world of maths and the down-to-earth one inhabited by engineers. It introduces and explains classical and modern mathematical procedures as applied to the real problems confronting engineers and geoscientists. Written in a manner that is understandable for students across the breadth of their studies, it lays out the foundations for mastering difficult and sometimes confusing mathematical methods. Arithmetic examples and figures fully support this approach, while all important mathematical techniques are detailed. Derived from the author's long experience teaching courses in applied mathematics, it is based on the lectures, exercises and lessons she has used in her classes.

Book Synopsis Advanced Mathematical Methods in Science and Engineering by : S.I. Hayek
Download or read book Advanced Mathematical Methods in Science and Engineering written by S.I. Hayek and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-06-22 with total page 862 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classroom-tested, Advanced Mathematical Methods in Science and Engineering, Second Edition presents methods of applied mathematics that are particularly suited to address physical problems in science and engineering. Numerous examples illustrate the various methods of solution and answers to the end-of-chapter problems are included at the back of the book. After introducing integration and solution methods of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), the book presents Bessel and Legendre functions as well as the derivation and methods of solution of linear boundary value problems for physical systems in one spatial dimension governed by ODEs. It also covers complex variables, calculus, and integrals; linear partial differential equations (PDEs) in classical physics and engineering; the derivation of integral transforms; Green’s functions for ODEs and PDEs; asymptotic methods for evaluating integrals; and the asymptotic solution of ODEs. New to this edition, the final chapter offers an extensive treatment of numerical methods for solving non-linear equations, finite difference differentiation and integration, initial value and boundary value ODEs, and PDEs in mathematical physics. Chapters that cover boundary value problems and PDEs contain derivations of the governing differential equations in many fields of applied physics and engineering, such as wave mechanics, acoustics, heat flow in solids, diffusion of liquids and gases, and fluid flow. An update of a bestseller, this second edition continues to give students the strong foundation needed to apply mathematical techniques to the physical phenomena encountered in scientific and engineering applications.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Methods in Engineering and Physics by : Gary N. Felder
Download or read book Mathematical Methods in Engineering and Physics written by Gary N. Felder and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-13 with total page 829 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is intended for the undergraduate course in math methods, with an audience of physics and engineering majors. As a required course in most departments, the text relies heavily on explained examples, real-world applications and student engagement. Supporting the use of active learning, a strong focus is placed upon physical motivation combined with a versatile coverage of topics that can be used as a reference after students complete the course. Each chapter begins with an overview that includes a list of prerequisite knowledge, a list of skills that will be covered in the chapter, and an outline of the sections. Next comes the motivating exercise, which steps the students through a real-world physical problem that requires the techniques taught in each chapter.

Download or read book Mathematical Physics written by Sadri Hassani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-02-08 with total page 1052 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For physics students interested in the mathematics they use, and for math students interested in seeing how some of the ideas of their discipline find realization in an applied setting. The presentation strikes a balance between formalism and application, between abstract and concrete. The interconnections among the various topics are clarified both by the use of vector spaces as a central unifying theme, recurring throughout the book, and by putting ideas into their historical context. Enough of the essential formalism is included to make the presentation self-contained.

Download or read book Mathematical Methods for Optical Physics and Engineering written by Gregory J. Gbur and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-06 with total page 819 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first textbook on mathematical methods focusing on techniques for optical science and engineering, this text is ideal for upper division undergraduate and graduate students in optical physics. Containing detailed sections on the basic theory, the textbook places strong emphasis on connecting the abstract mathematical concepts to the optical systems to which they are applied. It covers many topics which usually only appear in more specialized books, such as Zernike polynomials, wavelet and fractional Fourier transforms, vector spherical harmonics, the z-transform, and the angular spectrum representation. Most chapters end by showing how the techniques covered can be used to solve an optical problem. Essay problems based on research publications and numerous exercises help to further strengthen the connection between the theory and its applications.
