Book Synopsis Modern Physics and its Philosophy by : M. Strauss
Download or read book Modern Physics and its Philosophy written by M. Strauss and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In selecting the papers for this volume I have excluded all physics papers proper. I have further omitted all book rev.iews. Instead, I have included two papers not published previously; they are marked by an asterisk (*) in the table of contents. Since many of the papers were occasioned by Symposia or similar gatherings their chronological order is rather accidental. Hence I have tried to group the papers thematically into four parts. Within each part the order of sequence is from the more general to the more special, or from a more popular to a more technical treatment. The same principle has been applied to the sequential order of the parts. The foundational papers on quantum mechanics have been arranged in a somewhat dif ferent manner. Chapters XVI-XIX are concerned with the logic of complementarity while in Chapters XX-XXII a more radical recon ceptualization is carried out. Two of the older papers (Chapters VI and VIII) have been revised to bring them more into line with present terminology. Other papers have been corrected by additions and omissions. Additions are marked by square brackets [ ], while double square brackets [[ II signify omis sions or parts to be omitted. Hence [[A]] [B] means that 'A' should be replaced by 'B'. The heading of one paper (Chapter XX) has been changed to make it more descriptive.
Book Synopsis Screw Theory for Robotics by : José Pardos-Gotor
Download or read book Screw Theory for Robotics written by José Pardos-Gotor and published by . This book was released on 2018-08-26 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of screw theory in robotics is recognised but hardly capitalised on. Engineering students rarely get to learn about it in class, so only few postgraduates know how to exploit it. However, in a variety of areas of robotics, the methods and formalisms based on the geometry and algebra of the screws, have proven to be superior to other techniques. The idea of publishing this book came about because there were not enough specialised texts for teaching the screw theory methodologies and advantages through a set of visual and comprehensive examples. This illustrated handbook presents an abstract mathematical formulation for robot KINEMATICS based in the use of the screw theory tools, making an emphasis on modern geometric techniques. Its main objective is to demonstrate that many robotics problems addressed today only with numerical iterative solutions, are solved much better with closed-form geometric solutions based on screw theory. This book will surely spark your excitement about the technological and social prospects for robotics and enable you to develop effective and efficient robot algorithms, solutions and applications. In the end you will realise that, most of the time, a good theory is the fastest way to obtain a better performance, and the only thing you will have to do in exchange is put in some time and commitment in studying the screw theory. The contents of this handbook are used at the "Master in Robotics and Automation" of the UC3M (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid) by the Department of Systems Engineering and Automation.
Book Synopsis Space and Political Universalism in Early Modern Physics and Philosophy by : Pablo Bustinduy
Download or read book Space and Political Universalism in Early Modern Physics and Philosophy written by Pablo Bustinduy and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2024-03-05 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did early modern philosophy of space shape the modern concept of political universalism? In this book, Pablo Bustinduy persuasively argues that political universalism emerged from both the developments of Newtonian science and the formulation of the modern philosophy of the State. In the metaphysics of an open, empty, abstract and absolute space, Bustinduy suggests, the universalist project of modern politics found its logical model and foundation. There, the anxiety of a dislocated world was overcome, and the ontology of modern physics found a specific political expression that, despite being besieged by multiple crises, still animates our political imagination. By offering a political reading of early modern philosophy of space, Space and Political Universalism in Early Modern Physics and Philosophy reveals the connections between the logical development of early modern science, the contemporary elaborations of the philosophy of the State, and the historical articulations of the Westphalian system, early capitalist social formations, and the European colonial project. In doing so, it offers a powerful reflection on how we might detach democracy from the 'perilous metaphysics' of infinite space that has engendered political violence and domination, positing space as an emptiness that prevents the closure of the political itself.
Book Synopsis 21st Century Kinematics by : J. Michael McCarthy
Download or read book 21st Century Kinematics written by J. Michael McCarthy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-04 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 21st Century Kinematics focuses on algebraic problems in the analysis and synthesis of mechanisms and robots, compliant mechanisms, cable-driven systems and protein kinematics. The specialist contributors provide the background for a series of presentations at the 2012 NSF Workshop. The text shows how the analysis and design of innovative mechanical systems yield increasingly complex systems of polynomials, characteristic of those systems. In doing so, it takes advantage of increasingly sophisticated computational tools developed for numerical algebraic geometry and demonstrates the now routine derivation of polynomial systems dwarfing the landmark problems of even the recent past. The 21st Century Kinematics workshop echoes the NSF-supported 1963 Yale Mechanisms Teachers Conference that taught a generation of university educators the fundamental principles of kinematic theory. As such these proceedings will provide admirable supporting theory for a graduate course in modern kinematics and should be of considerable interest to researchers in mechanical design, robotics or protein kinematics or who have a broader interest in algebraic geometry and its applications.
