Book excerpt: From 1941-1945, through the entire storm of World War Two, Military Comics both informed and entertained the youth (and adults) of America, with stories of the Army and the Navy, and more. Featuring some of the best talents of the day, such as Will Eisner and Reed Crandall, and one of the most popular comic titles in history, Blackhawk, Military Comics remains one of the most sought after golden age titles in history. Once the war ended the name was changed to MODERN COMICS, but the characters and the creativity stayed. Instead of fighting the Nazis or other foes, Blackhawk and his team became soldiers of fortune; Dogtag continued to make us laugh; Choo-Choo and Ezra still messed up in style --- and the series moved forward! We're publishing them all! In 2015 you will find all 102 individual issues of Military/Modern Comics - - - OR you can find them all in the 34-Volume Collection, "The Complete Military/Modern Comics" - - - OR, if you're a Blackhawk fan, we're offering all 102+ Blackhawk stories from Military/Modern Comics in four giant volumes, "Blackhawk: Classic Comics Library #32, #64, #70 & #80!" Plus you can find many other characters --- Torchy, Death Patrol, PT Boat, Ezra, Choo Choo and others --- in their own [email protected] Like all Classic Comics Library books - all stories and no ads!Get the complete catalog by [email protected] COMICS CAN BE HARD TO FIND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. These books are reprinted from the best available images, and the books will be updated as new copies are uncovered. Book excerpt: The dream of being a superman came true for Max Quest - and immediately turned into a nightmare. He was not alone. There were Others with extraordinary powers, and the last thing they wanted was another superman on Earth - especially one working for good instead of evil. They couldn't kill him. But they could send him . . . elsewhere. Elsewhere was the viciously hostile world of Qanar, where Max's powers didn't work and sorcery was a more potent weapon than science, where shadows were as menacing as steel. Max Quest still had to save Earth from the corrupt threat of the Others - but he found his destiny intricately linked with that of Qanar as well. And somewhere in space-time was his lost love . . .

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sargon the Sorcerer joins forces with the Justice Society in their battle against the Crime Champions. The Flash and Hourman take on Chronos and the Fiddler; Red Tornado and the Huntress fight Dr. Alchemy and the Icicle; and Power Girl and Sargon tackle Felix Faust and the Wizard. Meanwhile, the Thunderbolt recounts for Starman and Black Canary the secret of her true origin. Johnny Thunder and Black Canary had been crime-fighting teammates at the start of her career, until Johnny decided to forgo the use of his T-Bolt and Black Canary eventually took his place in the JSA. Larry Lance became Dinah DrakeÕs boyfriend, and after the Justice Society disbanded in the 1950s, the two were married and had a daughter, also named Dinah. When the child was still an infant, however, the Wizard, seeking revenge on Black Canary, cast a spell giving the baby uncontrollable sonic powers, and the tearful parents allowed the T-Bolt to take the child to his home dimension, where her power would do no harm. The Thunderbolt then caused everyone to forget what had happened. His story is interrupted at this point, as the Earth-2 Johnny Thunder frees himself and overcomes his counterpart, thus allowing the T-Bolt to revive the JLA heroes, who join the fight against the Crime Champions, with the result that the villains are soundly beaten. Superman and the Spectre then appear in the Thunderbolt Dimension to complete the tale of Black CanaryÕs beginnings, as it is revealed that the original Canary had died shortly after her husband (in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #74), and that the Black Canary who joined the Justice League was actually the child Dinah Lance, now grown to adulthood, able to control her sonic powers, and imbued by the T-Bolt with her motherÕs memories.

Book excerpt: For the better part of three decades romance comics were an American institution. Nearly 6000 titles were published between 1947 and 1977, and for a time one in five comics sold in the U.S. was a romance comic. This first full-length study examines the several types of romance comics, their creators and publishing history. The author explores significant periods in the development of the genre, including the origins of Archie Comics and other teen publications, the romance comic "boom and bust" of the 1950s, and their sudden disappearance when fantasy and superhero comics began to dominate in the late 1970s.

Meet Wimbledon Green, the self-proclaimed world’s greatest comic book collector who brokered the biggest comic book deal in the history of collecting. Comic book retailers, auctioneers and conventioneers from around North America, as well as Green’s collecting rivals, weigh in on the man and his vast collection of comic books. Are Green’s intentions honourable? Does he truly love comics or is he driven by the need to conquer? Lastly, is he really even Wimbledon Green? A charming and amusing caper where comic book collecting is a world of intrique and high finance – part riotous chase, part whimsical character sketch, Wimbledon Green looks at the need to collect and the need to reinvent oneself.
