Jahrhunderts haben sich aus den etablierten und überwiegend starren Arbeitszeitregelungen vermehrt Alternativen herausgebildet. Den Anlass für diese Entwicklung gaben zum Beispiel Änderungen in den Tarifverträgen und in der Gesetzgebung oder auch der wachsende Wettbewerbsdruck für die Unternehmen. Eine Anpassung des Personals und der Maschinen bei schwankender Auftragslage und mehr Kundenzufriedenheit durch längere Öffnungs- und Ansprechzeiten gelten als entscheidende Vorteile für den Wettbewerb. Die flexiblen Arbeitszeitmodelle werden häufig nicht nur als ein Gewinn für die Unternehmen hinsichtlich ihrer Wirtschaftlichkeit, sondern auch als ein Gewinn für die Arbeitnehmer beschrieben. Die flexiblen Arbeitszeiten, welche den atypischen Arbeitszeitmodellen angehören, werden dabei im Zusammenhang mit der Work-Life-Balance und als Kontrast zu dem traditionellen schwindenden Normalarbeitsverhältnis betrachtet. Diese Seminararbeit bezieht sich hauptsächlich auf die Veränderungen für die Arbeitnehmer und nur in geringem Maß auf die wirtschaftlichen Hintergründe. Somit geht es in meiner Fragestellung darum, welchen Beitrag die flexiblen Arbeitszeitmodelle für die Vereinbarkeit von Berufs- und Privatleben leisten. Um die Frage zu beantworten, möchte ich herausfinden, wie eine Work-Life-Balance erreicht und beibehalten werden kann. Dazu werde ich im Gliederungspunkt 2 einen kurzen Überblick geben, was sich allgemein hinter dem Begriff Work-Life-Balance verbirgt und wie dieses Gleichgewicht zwischen Berufs- und Privatleben erreicht werden bzw. erhalten bleiben kann. Da die traditionellen Arbeitszeiten mit ihren geringen Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten die Vergleichsbasis für flexible Arbeitsmodelle darstellen, wird im Punkt 3 auf das Normalarbeitsverhältnis eingegangen. Anschließend werden im Gliederungspunkt 4 die Merkmale einiger flexibler Arbeitszeitmodelle zusammengetragen. Dabei werde ich auch auf Arbeitsmodelle eingehen, die nicht direkt als Arbeitszeitmodell gelten, aber dennoch eine selbständige Verteilung von Arbeitszeit zulassen. Diese Merkmale werden im Punkt 5 hinsichtlich ihres Einflusses auf die Work-Life-Balance als Vor- oder Nachteil für die Arbeitnehmer bewertet. Im Fazit werden die Ergebnisse zusammengefasst und dahingehend überprüft, ob die veränderten Umstände vermehrt zur Verbesserung oder doch eher zur Verschlechterung der Work-Life-Balance beitragen.
