Book excerpt: Cette thèse est consacrée à l’étude théorique et expérimentale de guides d’onde plasmoniques fonctionnant à la longueur d’onde de 1,55μm. Ces guides d’onde plasmoniques sont envisagés comme interconnexions optiques avec un confinement latéral sub-longueur d’onde. Différents codes de simulations ont été développés à la fois comme outils de prédiction pour la conception des composants mais également pour comparer systématiquement les résultats du calcul avec les mesures expérimentales. Un premier modèle 2D basé sur une approche multicouche a été utilisé pour identifier les modes plasmoniques sur des structures planaires. Un solveur de mode a ensuite permis de déterminer les modes propres dans des guides d’onde plasmoniques de formes diverses. Finalement, ces deux codes ont été utilisés pour implémenter une source optique dans un code FDTD (Finite-Difference Time-Domain) utilisé pour simuler numériquement, par éléments finis, des structures plasmoniques en 2D ou 3D. Deux catégories de guides d’onde plasmoniques ont été fabriquées par lithographie par faisceaux d’électrons. Un montage de microscopie en champ proche SNOM fonctionnant par étro-injection laser a été pour caractériser expérimentalement les propriétés optiques de ces structures. La première catégorie est constituée de bandes métalliques en or caractérisées par une longueur de propagation élevée mais un confinement latéral limité. La seconde catégorie est constituée par des rubans en polymère déposés sur une couche d'or. Ces guides, dits DLSPP, présentent un confinement optique sub-longueur d’onde qui permet de combler l’écart d’échelle entre des composants optiques et des circuits intégrés électroniques.
