This book was released on 1978 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The propulsive lift system induced aerodynamics of multi-jet VSTOL aircraft configurations were experimentally evaluated over a moving deck and at static hover conditions. Several model configurations representative of advanced subsonic and supersonic VSTOL aircraft were tested. Dynamic jet-induced force and moment data were obtained for heaving, pitching, and rolling motions of a simulated seaborne landing platform over a range of heights, amplitudes, and frequencies. Configuration effects were assessed at both static hover and deck motion conditions, including the effects of wing height, fuselage contouring, lift improvement devices, and nozzle arrangement. In addition, tests were performed to separate the effects of deck motion on the fountain impingement forces. Empirical procedures were defined to aid in predicting the dynamic jet- induced forces and moment variations with deck motion. Configuration design and model testing guidelines for VSTOL aircraft are described. Recommendations are also made for further research to provide additional information required to develop generalized prediction procedures.

Book Synopsis Multi Jet Induced Forces and Moments on VTOL Aircraft Hovering in and Out of Ground Effect by : Donald R. Kotansky
Download or read book Multi Jet Induced Forces and Moments on VTOL Aircraft Hovering in and Out of Ground Effect written by Donald R. Kotansky and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An engineering methodology has been developed for the prediction of propulsive lift system induced aerodynamic effects for multi-lift-jet VTOL aircraft operating in the hover mode in an out of ground effect. The developed methodology takes into account the effects of aircraft geometry, aircraft orientation (pitch, roll) and height above the ground plane, cross-flow, lift- jet vector directions with respect to the airframe, lift-jet exit flow conditions and noncircular nozzle exit geometry for low aspect ratio nozzles.
