This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides an enormous contribution to the broad effort of modeling heat, mass and momentum transport in multi-physics problems with the development of new solution approaches. It re-visits the time-honored technique of network application using flow network solutions for all transport process components for a coupled modeling task. The book further provides as formulation of the conservation laws for mass, energy and momentum, specifically for the branches and nodes of transport networks using the combination of the Eulerian and Lagrangean modeling methods. With the extension of Bernoulli’s original concept, a new solution is given for the flow field of viscous and compressible fluids as driven by the balance of mechanical energy, coupled to the thermodynamics of the transport system. Applicable to simple or large-scale tasks, the new model elements and methods are built on first principles. Throughout the work, the book provides original formulations, their mathematical derivations as well as applications in a numerical solution scheme.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micro process engineering is approaching both academia and industry. With the provision of micro devices and systems by commercial suppliers, one main barrier for using these units has been eliminated. More and more they become familiar, thereby being one facet of the upheaval in chemical industry. This book focuses on processes rather than on devices: what is 'before' and 'behind' micro device fabrication. A comprehensive and detailed overview is given on: - A multi-faceted, hierarchic analysis of chemical micro process technology - Modelling and simulation of micro reactors - Liquid- and liquid/liquid-phase reactions - Gas/liquid reactions - Gas-phase reactions (heterogeneous catalysis)

Book excerpt: The papers in this volume arose out of two workshops entitled 'Confinement and Remediation of Environmental Hazards,' and 'Resource Recovery,' as part of the IMA 1999-2000 program year. These workshops brought together mathematicians, engineers and scientists to summarize recent theoretical, computational, and experimental advances in the theory of phenomena in porous media. The first workshop focused on the mathematical problems which arise in groundwater transport of contamination, and the spreading, confinement and remediation of biological, chemical and radioactive waste. In the second conference, the processes underlying petroleum recovery and the geological time scale of deformation, flow and reaction in porous media were discussed. Simulation techniques were used to simulate complex domains with widely-ranging spatial resolution and types of physics. Probability funcional methods for determining the most probable state of the subsurface and related uncertainty were discussed. Practical examples included breakout from chemical and radioactive waste repositories, confinement by injection of pore plugging material and bioremediation of petroleum and other wastes. This volume will be of interest to subsurface science practitioners who would like a view of recent mathematical and experimental efforts to examine subsurface science phenomena related to resource recovery and remediation issues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book solves the open problems in fluid flow modeling through the fractured vuggy carbonate reservoirs. Fractured vuggy carbonate reservoirs usually have complex pore structures, which contain not only matrix and fractures but also the vugs and cavities. Since the vugs and cavities are irregular in shape and vary in diameter from millimeters to meters, modeling fluid flow through fractured vuggy porous media is still a challenge. The existing modeling theory and methods are not suitable for such reservoir. It starts from the concept of discrete fracture and fracture-vug networks model, and then develops the corresponding mathematical models and numerical methods, including discrete fracture model, discrete fracture-vug model, hybrid model and multiscale models. Based on these discrete porous media models, some equivalent medium models and methods are also discussed. All the modeling and methods shared in this book offer the key recent solutions into this area.
