Book Synopsis Automatic Methods for the Refinement of System Models by : Julia Seiter
Download or read book Automatic Methods for the Refinement of System Models written by Julia Seiter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-04 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of automatic model refinement, which helps readers close the gap between initial textual specification and its desired implementation. The authors enable readers to follow two “directions” for refinement: Vertical refinement, for adding detail and precision to single description for a given model and Horizontal refinement, which considers several views on one level of abstraction, refining the system specification by dedicated descriptions for structure or behavior. The discussion includes several methods which support designers of electronic systems in this refinement process, including verification methods to check automatically whether a refinement has been conducted as intended.

Book Synopsis Software Cost Estimation, Benchmarking, and Risk Assessment by : Adam Trendowicz
Download or read book Software Cost Estimation, Benchmarking, and Risk Assessment written by Adam Trendowicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-10 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software effort estimation is a key element of software project planning and management. Yet, in industrial practice, the important role of effort estimation is often underestimated and/or misunderstood. In this book, Adam Trendowicz presents the CoBRA method (an abbreviation for Cost Estimation, Benchmarking, and Risk Assessment) for estimating the effort required to successfully complete a software development project, which uniquely combines human judgment and measurement data in order to systematically create a custom-specific effort estimation model. CoBRA goes far beyond simply predicting the development effort; it supports project decision-makers in negotiating the project scope, managing project risks, benchmarking productivity, and directing improvement activities. To illustrate the method’s practical use, the book reports several real-world cases where CoBRA was applied in various industrial contexts. These cases represent different estimation contexts in terms of software project environment, estimation objectives, and estimation constraints. This book is the result of a successful collaboration between the process management division of Fraunhofer IESE and many software companies in the field of software engineering technology transfer. It mainly addresses software practitioners who deal with planning and managing software development projects as part of their daily work, and is also of interest for students or courses specializing in software engineering or software project management.
Book Synopsis Domain-Specific Development of Event Condition Action Policies by : Raphael Romeikat
Download or read book Domain-Specific Development of Event Condition Action Policies written by Raphael Romeikat and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2014 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IT systems have a high impact on organizations and businesses today and are a key to globalization. Evolution of complexity calls for changes in the way these systems are built and managed. As a consequence, a paradigm shift towards Model-Driven Engineering and Policy-Based Management can be observed, both aiming at a better management of complexity. A lot of human effort is still necessary to develop and operate complex systems. In this thesis, an innovative approach to reduce that effort is presented. Domain-specific models are used to describe the IT system and its behavior at a high level of abstraction initially. They are refined into technical representations at lower levels and finally transformed into event condition action policies. These executable policies define which actions must or must not be performed to achieve the objectives of the system. The refinement of models and the generation of policy implementations are both fully automated. As high-level changes are automatically materialized in the respective policies, system behavior can be adapted at runtime simply by changing the high-level models. This allows to operate even complex systems without considering their technical details. Finally, the correctness of the refinement is proven with a relational algebra. The benefits of the apporach are demonstrated and evaluated with two real-world case studies, dealing with the management of mobile networks and the calculation of bonus payments.

Book Synopsis Secure Systems Development with UML by : Jan Jürjens
Download or read book Secure Systems Development with UML written by Jan Jürjens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attacks against computer systems can cause considerable economic or physical damage. High-quality development of security-critical systems is difficult, mainly because of the conflict between development costs and verifiable correctness. Jürjens presents the UML extension UMLsec for secure systems development. It uses the standard UML extension mechanisms, and can be employed to evaluate UML specifications for vulnerabilities using a formal semantics of a simplified fragment of UML. Established rules of security engineering can be encapsulated and hence made available even to developers who are not specialists in security. As one example, Jürjens uncovers a flaw in the Common Electronic Purse Specification, and proposes and verifies a correction. With a clear separation between the general description of his approach and its mathematical foundations, the book is ideally suited both for researchers and graduate students in UML or formal methods and security, and for advanced professionals writing critical applications.
Book Synopsis Agile Model-Based Development Using UML-RSDS by : Kevin Lano
Download or read book Agile Model-Based Development Using UML-RSDS written by Kevin Lano and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the concepts and application of model-based development (MBD), model transformations, and Agile MBD to a wide range of software systems. Book Synopsis Decision Modelling and Information Systems by : Nikitas-Spiros Koutsoukis
Download or read book Decision Modelling and Information Systems written by Nikitas-Spiros Koutsoukis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Decision Modelling And Information Systems: The Information Value Chain the authors explain the interrelationships between the decision support, decision modelling, and information systems. The first two parts of the book focus on the interdisciplinary decision support framework, in which mathematical programming (optimization) is taken as the inference engine. The role of business analytics and its relationship with recent developments in organisational theory, decision modelling, information systems and information technology are considered in depth. Part three of the book includes a carefully chosen selection of invited contributions from internationally-known researchers. These contributions are thought-provoking and cover key decision modelling and information systems issues. The final part of the book covers contemporary developments in the related area of business intelligence considered within an organizational context. The topics cover computing delivered across the web, management decision-making, and socio-economic challenges that lie ahead. It is now well accepted that globalisation and the impact of digital economy are profound; and the role of e-business and the delivery of decision models (business analytics) across the net lead to a challenging business environment. In this dynamic setting, decision support is one of the few interdisciplinary frameworks that can be rapidly adopted and deployed to so that businesses can survive and prosper by meeting these new challenges.
