Book excerpt: Out of my hopelessness and desperation, I realized I couldn't go on living with this terrible pain that had taken over my life. I needed help, but I didn't know who could help me deal with this grief I was going through. I knew I couldn't do it in my own strength, and it had to be someone much stronger than me. It had to be someone who could understand and know the pain in my heart. I found that someone who took away this pain that was choking the life out of me. I found strength in his loving arms. Without Him, I could not have made it on my own. He knew what I was going through because He could feel my pain. This is my story about my grief journey and how someone rescued me from my grief. He gave me so much of Himself that the only way I could share it with you is to take you through the 'Photos of The Heart." I was born August 2, 1949 in Gadsden, Alabama. While attending college, I met the most wonderful woman, my beloved future wife, and we were married 34 years. We have three sons, a daughter-in-law, and five grandkids, whom I love dearly. I don't have a long list of books that I have written to convince you to read this book. But I do have backing from the greatest author who ever was, is and will ever be: God. I have written in this book what He gave me, and since this is His book, all royalties will go to Him. My heartfelt prayer is that when you read this book, you will see God's wonderful love and see He is waiting for you to give Him your grief.

Book excerpt: The Worst Generation is character Jenny Alhouse’s indictment of her parents’ contributions to the contemporary world, their generational short-sighted and selfish degradation of economic and environmental well-being. Her recounting of childhood shows much she is thankful for - a stable, caring home, times kayaking with her father, family trips, a quality education, the benefits of prosperity. But she tells the story from her adulthood, and includes the things she could not see as a child: the economic and environmental plundering and inconsideration imbedded in her upbringing that leave her world unstable, uncivil, and unsafe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lewis E. Lehrman’s biography recounts a purposeful life of accomplishments. He was instrumental early on in building up the family business, Rite Aid. Later he formed a successful investment business, joined Morgan Stanley, and founded a hedge fund. To further his passion for study, he founded the Lehrman Institute and, with Richard Gilder, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, receiving the National Humanities Medal in 2005 for their groundbreaking work in history. Lehrman endowed the Lincoln Prize, partnered with Monticello, and created the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale. His significant collection of historical documents and artifacts is housed on the ground floor of the New-York Historical Society. Also a political conservative who worked at the grassroots level to promote ideas and issues, he ran for governor of New York against Mario Cuomo, went on to work with and challenge the Reagan administration, and then formed Citizens for America. Filled with interviews, remembrances, quotes, and photographs of the many influential personalities, partners, and associates Lew has worked with throughout his life, they best testify to his significance. The sometimes unexpected choices Lew has made and delivered on sum up an exemplary life—wide, deep, and well lived. It’s his story, told the way he wants it to be recorded.

Book excerpt: Lieutenant Commander “Gunner” McCormick is assigned as an intelligence officer to Carrier Strike Force 10, being deployed to the Yellow Sea at the invitation of South Korea for joint exercises with the US Navy. During his pre-deployment briefing, he discovers a TOP-SECRET MEMO revealing rumors that the North Koreans may still be holding a handful of elderly Americans from the Korean War in secret prison camps. As it happens, Gunner’s grandfather, who was a young marine officer in the Korean War, disappeared at Chosin Reservoir over 60 years ago and is still listed as MIA in North Korea. Sworn to silence about what he has read, the top-secret memo eats at him. Gunner decides to spend all his inheritance and break every military regulation in the book to finance his own three-man commando squad on a suicide mission north of the DMZ to search for clues about the fate of his grandfather. Risking his career, his fortune, and his life, Gunner will get his answers, or he will die trying. Don Brown is building a loyal fan base by writing what he knows best: thrillers with heart. A former Navy JAG officer and action officer in the Pentagon, Brown pens action-packed plots and finely-drawn characters that are credible and compelling. Thunder in the Morning Calm is a novel of bravery, duty, and family love that will keep readers of all ages reading straight through to the last page.
