As it traces Church history, it asks the question, “Why do we do the things we do?” It is a thought-provoking window of opportunity to learn about the traditions that we all hold dear. Truth bubbles to the surface in each and every chapter, as the reader is introduced to the ominous presence that has been behind the scenes of the many detrimental components that plague society today. By the end of the book the reader is brought face to face with the beast of Revelation and his infamous “Mark.” Truly this book is an eye-opening experience.

Book excerpt: When it seems that all is lost, and you have no hope, Misplaced Loyalty can be fatal. Detective Patsy Hodge leaves her old life behind, and transfers to Bristol and a new job with the CID. Wanting to make her mark as a female detective she attends a suspicious death with her new boss; straight talking, no nonsense Detective Inspector John Meredith. Within days the body count begins to rise, as victims old and new are discovered to have died in the same way. Some could say the victims were merely party to assisted suicide, others may call it euthanasia, and many believe that either way it shouldn't be classed as a crime; but when it becomes evident that some of the victims were forced to accept a lethal injection, DI Meredith launches a major murder investigation which covers a period of over twenty years. As more victims are discovered, and the investigation gathers pace, someone takes an unhealthy interest in Patsy. Their motive moves from irritating to sinister when her life is threatened. But just how serious is that threat? Despite being surrounded by police officers, the case takes precedent, and Patsy even considers using the services of a private detective, who just happens to be friend and former boss of John Meredith. It's far from clear if this development is connected to the case, Meredith, or perhaps both. With ill feeling developing within the team, the motives of colleagues working on the case are brought into question. Excerpts from reviews for Misplaced Loyalty from Amazon.com & Amazon.co.uk "I could not put this one down and can't wait to read more Meredith & Hodge adventures. Marcia Turner is now on my 'Favourite Author' list." "This was one of those books you just HATE to put down. I was intrigued from the first page and never felt like wanted to just throw it away as has happened once in a while. I think I read this one faster than any in a long time. I just couldn't stop. I loved it!" "I really enjoyed reading this book. It kept me on my toes and I could not wait to pick it up again to start reading it each day. Great author." "As the plot moves on the characters develop so subtly, that, almost without realising it I suddenly found myself fearful for them, smiling with them, then having finished the book, missing them! "I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and paced just right for a thriller. The characters, especially Meredith were very well constructed. The plot twisted and turned and the reveal at the end was excellent." "A sign of a good book is that it can make me laugh out loud, gasp with shock, and keep me up until well past my bed time - This book managed to achieve all three!!!"

Book Synopsis POLICE ETHICS AND THE JEWISH TRADITION by : Stephen M. Passamaneck
Download or read book POLICE ETHICS AND THE JEWISH TRADITION written by Stephen M. Passamaneck and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jewish tradition has a great deal to say about morals and ethics in various modern fields of public concern, including police ethics. In Police Ethics and the Jewish Tradition, author Stephen Passamaneck explores three areas of interest: loyalty, bribery and gratuities, and deception. Loyalty will always be a part of police culture and administrators are faced with the task of minimizing its abuses. Jewish tradition encourages the support of the whistleblower who exposes wrongdoing for the sake of the public good. This can sometimes lead to a clash between tradition and the 'blue wall of silence.' In the area of bribery and gratuities, Jewish law prohibits bribery but modest gratuities may be accepted. Tradition allows a given class of persons to enjoy preferential treatment. In police culture, limits must be imposed on any gratuities. Any expression of respect and appreciation must have no relation to the manner in which a police officer performs his or her duties. In the area of deception, Jewish tradition is very clear that misleading the innocent is morally wrong. Police ethics accepts deception in an interrogation to obtain information, to protect a life, or to recover stolen property. Deceptive tactics, however, have no place in a court of law. Jewish legal tradition does not differ from modern western law in this respect. This book takes a first look at the idea that Jewish tradition may offer benefit to the evolving world of police ethics.
Book Synopsis Working for the Japanese: Myths and Realities by : Stephanie Jones
Download or read book Working for the Japanese: Myths and Realities written by Stephanie Jones and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991-03-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 100 British executives have contributed to this study of what it's really like to work for a Japanese company. Media beliefs about the Japanese in Britain suggest that they are obsessed with long-term planning and concensus decision-making, that all the bosses are Japanese, that all decisions are made in Tokyo, and that uniforms and exercises are compulsory. Dr Jones' findings question these 'myths' arguing that the Japanese have shown a remarkable adaptability to local conditions.

Book Synopsis New Wars and New Soldiers by : Asst Prof Jessica Wolfendale
Download or read book New Wars and New Soldiers written by Asst Prof Jessica Wolfendale and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-03-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern conflicts now bear little relation to traditional wars between states. The threat of terrorism, the creation of new military technologies, the rise of private military companies, and the increasing involvement of the military in counter-terrorism and humanitarian operations all pose challenges to traditional ideas about the ethics of war, the relevance of current international law governing armed conflict, and Just War theory. How, then, should military ethics approach these new forms of conflict? Modern military ethics now includes work from disciplines as diverse as philosophy, history, sociology, international relations, politics, and psychology. This diversity of approaches suggests that the approach to contemporary military ethics that is best suited to understanding the wars of today is a broad multidisciplinary vision. By bringing together contributors from philosophy, international relations, security studies, and strategic studies, this volume offers just such an interdisciplinary analysis. The chapters in this volume explore the ethical issues posed by recent developments in both the nature and conduct of war, as well as focusing on the role and needs of modern military personnel. This comprehensive approach allows the reader to see the broad scope of modern military ethics, and to understand the numerous questions about modern conflict that require critical scrutiny. Aimed at both military and academic audiences, this volume will be of significant interest to researchers and students in philosophy, sociology, military and strategic studies, international relations, politics, and security studies.
