Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time has sealed the reputation of Matthew Henry's classic commentary as a rich source of insight into God's word. Four centuries after its first publication, it remains one of the best-loved, most popular commentaries ever written. However, while its wisdom is timeless, the English language has changed much through the years. Words that meant one thing in Matthew Henry's day have taken on different meanings today. In addition, Henry's often wordy reflections are generations removed from the crisp style that communicates most effectively to contemporary readers. The Zondervan NIV Matthew Henry Commentary is a masterful response to these concerns. It delivers the heart and soul of Henry's incomparable writings in a style that is easy to read and understand. -Dr. Leslie Church's meticulous abridgment retains the essential content of the original work. - Easily misunderstood words have been replaced with modern ones while keeping Henry's style. - Use of the New International Version (NIV) instead of the King James Version makes this edition fully compatible with today's most widely used Bible translation. In one volume, here is a wealth of exposition, metaphors, analogies, and illustrations, ideal for - Personal devotions - Bible study - Sermon and lesson preparation

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vision of Numbers 1, 7, and the Star of David is a revelation of the heart of God for all humanity. The revelation gives a biblical account of the history of Israel and the call of Abraham by God, to father a new nation. The land was covenanted to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by God as an everlasting inheritance to his "Seed." Through Abraham's son, Jacob, the "Seed," of the woman of Genesis 3:15 would be born. The "Seed," Jesus Christ would be a blessing both spiritually and physically to all humanity, He would bring redemption to all people. The revelation gives deep insight into the Passover and the Exodus from Egypt and introduces the seven Feasts of the Lord which outlines God's Eternal Plan for all humanity, from chaos to eternity. The revelation focuses on Israel; God's chosen people and Time piece in the earth and points to why Israel is the most hotly contested piece of land in the earth. The reason for the conflicts in the Middle East today and why Jerusalem, Israel's Capital City is the most fought-over piece of real estate in the world. Jerusalem has been sought after by all major religions Jews, Muslims and Christians for thousands and thousands of years. God was espoused to Israel and she became his wife. She was unfaithful to Him and had to be punished for her disobedience, idolatry and unfaithfulness to God; therefore, she was uprooted from the land of promise and dispersed to many nations of the world. After two thousand years Israel is back in the land and became a nation on May 14th 1948, fulfilling "The Fig Tree Prophecy," which ushers in the time, the bible calls the "Last Days," or the "time of Jacob's trouble." Therefore, the revelation points to our soon coming King - Jesus Christ. "He is near, even at the door." He will reign in The Capital City, Jerusalem, it is God's resting place for all eternity. It is the Lord's inheritance; where He will reign in Majesty. It is in this future City that all believers of the House that Christ is building will live and reign with Him. Our home, the New Jerusalem will descend from heaven to this great land and Christ will reign with both Jews and Gentiles in that City forever and ever. It is God's will for all people from every nation, country, tribe and culture to be saved; this is God's heart for all people and humanity's only hope - salvation in Jesus Christ. Deuteronomy 4:6 Says: "Hear O Israel: The Lord our God the Lord is one."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in a popular style by a longtime college physics professor and Bible teacher, this book is designed to strengthen the faith of those who believe in an inerrant Bible against false teaching by secular educators. Casting a physicist's light on the old-earth/young-earth controversy, a new paradigm is presented. The author invokes Einstein's theory to show that the six-24-hour-days model of creationists and the physicist's 13.7 billion year model are not logically inconsistent. That's because the God Who inspired Genesis One exists in three Persons, each capable of distinct spacetime reference frames, allowing creation to be observed multi-perspectively. Furthermore, citing Heisenberg's uncertainty principle-the basis of quantum mechanics-he points out that this allows God to control the universe moment by moment, since it is clearly taught in Scripture that God alone is sovereign over chance. The Law of Entropy, sometimes called "time's arrow," shows that the history of salvation was intended to take place only once. Jesus Christ is the anchor of time. The unifying theme of the Old and New Testaments is the story of redemption from the penalty of original sin as God in His sovereignty calls members of His invisible church out from the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrorism is a cancer, an infection, an epidemic, a plague. For more than a century, this metaphor has figured insurgent violence as contagion in order to contain its political energies. In Epidemic Empire, Anjuli Fatima Raza Kolb shows that this trope began in responses to the Indian Mutiny of 1857 and tracks its tenacious hold through 9/11 and beyond. The result is the first book-length study to approach the global War on Terror from a postcolonial literary perspective. Raza Kolb assembles a diverse archive from colonial India, imperial Britain, French and independent Algeria, the postcolonial Islamic diaspora, and the neoimperial United States. Anchoring her book are studies of four major writers in the colonial-postcolonial canon: Rudyard Kipling, Bram Stoker, Albert Camus, and Salman Rushdie. Across these sources, she reveals the tendency to imagine anticolonial rebellion, and Muslim insurgency specifically, as a virulent form of social contagion. Exposing the long history of this broken but persistent narrative, Epidemic Empire is a major contribution to the rhetorical history of our present moment.
