Download or read book Miracles Today written by Craig S. Keener and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do miracles still happen today? This book demonstrates that miraculous works of God, which have been part of the experience of the church around the world since Christianity began, continue into the present. Leading New Testament scholar Craig Keener addresses common questions about miracles and provides compelling reasons to believe in them today, including many accounts that offer evidence of verifiable miracles. This book gives an accessible and concise overview of one of Keener's most significant research topics. His earlier two-volume work on miracles stands as the definitive word on the topic, but its size and scope are daunting to many readers. This new book summarizes Keener's basic argument but contains substantial new material, including new accounts of the miraculous. It is suitable as a textbook but also accessible to church leaders and laypeople.

Sharing her own story of emerging from the battle with anxiety as well as the stories of others, Dr. Michelle Bengtson reminds you of your identity as a follower of Christ and of the peace he promises you in spite of everything. Book Synopsis Miracles : 2 Volumes by : Craig S. Keener
Download or read book Miracles : 2 Volumes written by Craig S. Keener and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 1459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christianity Today 2013 Book Award Winner Winner of The Foundation for Pentecostal Scholarship's 2012 Award of Excellence 2011 Book of the Year, Christianbook.com's Academic Blog Most modern prejudice against biblical miracle reports depends on David Hume's argument that uniform human experience precluded miracles. Yet current research shows that human experience is far from uniform. In fact, hundreds of millions of people today claim to have experienced miracles. New Testament scholar Craig Keener argues that it is time to rethink Hume's argument in light of the contemporary evidence available to us. This wide-ranging and meticulously researched two-volume study presents the most thorough current defense of the credibility of the miracle reports in the Gospels and Acts. Drawing on claims from a range of global cultures and taking a multidisciplinary approach to the topic, Keener suggests that many miracle accounts throughout history and from contemporary times are best explained as genuine divine acts, lending credence to the biblical miracle reports.

Book excerpt: Anorexia and bulimia are eating disorders not to be taken lightly. This is a true account of one person's incredible journey of survival once the residual effects take over the body. It appears fashionable for adolescence, young adults even pre-teens to experiment in such self destructing behavior without fully knowing the consequences. In Pam's case, her vascular disease lead to the amputation of both feet, all fingers including the thumb amputated and the tips of two fingers on her right had as well. Her respiratory condition lead to only 35% capacity of use of her lungs. She suffered from kidney failure resulting in her being dialyzed three times a week. There were times she would slip into a coma while the doctors did not know whether or not she would survive. Of course, there were plenty of set backs where she ended up back in I.C.U and had to start the recovery process all over. Her greatest wish was to become healthy so she could return home. Her second wish was to tell everybody around her about her sickness and feelings.

He establishes the contextual setting through a combination of literary, anthropological, historical and archaeological approaches. He challenges the assumptions about the role of Paul and the meaning of resurrection, and forges a new understanding of the birth of the Christian church. Here is a vivid account of early Christianity's interaction with the world around it, and of the new traditions and communities established as Jesus' companions continued their movement after his death.
Book Synopsis The Illusion of Will, Self, and Time by : Jonathan Bricklin
Download or read book The Illusion of Will, Self, and Time written by Jonathan Bricklin and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2015-06-01 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Seminary Co-op Notable Book of 2016 William James is often considered a scientist compromised by his advocacy of mysticism and parapsychology. Jonathan Bricklin argues James can also be viewed as a mystic compromised by his commitment to common sense. James wanted to believe in will, self, and time, but his deepest insights suggested otherwise. "Is consciousness already there waiting to be uncovered and is it a veridical revelation of reality?" James asked shortly before his death in 1910. A century after his death, research from neuroscience, physics, psychology, and parapsychology is making the case, both theoretically and experimentally, that answers James's question in the affirmative. By separating what James passionately wanted to believe, based on common sense, from what his insights and researches led him to believe, Bricklin shows how James himself laid the groundwork for this more challenging view of existence. The non-reality of will, self, and time is consistent with James's psychology of volition, his epistemology of self, and his belief that Newtonian, objective, even-flowing time does not exist.
