Book Synopsis Translation as Criticism by : Anna Gadd Colombi
Download or read book Translation as Criticism written by Anna Gadd Colombi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Themes, places, characters and voices of Elizabeth Jolley’s Mr Scobie’s Riddle are explored in detail in this monograph, which provides different narratological and translational analyses of the novel, as well as an academic translation into Italian. Considering the challenges and issues posited by a literary work’s translation helps to shed light on the original work itself. In this manner, the translation is to be seen as a further analytical instrument to gain insight into the original novel. The purpose of this work is to obtain a deeper understanding of the complicated microcosm created by Jolley in the nursing home of “St Christopher and St Jude”: the typically Australian themes of migration, isolation, place and displacement; the Australian culture-specific elements; the ensemble of curious characters and their entertaining voices. This book strives to preserve the above elements in translation as the expression of something Other, a different culture, and to take Italian readers on a journey to the Australia depicted in Mr Scobie’s Riddle so that Jolley’s characters’ voices can echo in the Italian language.
Download or read book Total Chaos written by Jean-Claude Izzo and published by Europa Editions. This book was released on 2016-07-05 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An ex-cop takes on the mafia in the blockbuster novel that kicks off the Marseilles trilogy with what “may be the most lyrical hard-boiled writing yet” (The Nation). In Jean-Claude Izzo’s “Mediterranean noir” mysteries, the city of Marseilles is explosive, breathtakingly beautiful, and deadly. Total Chaos introduces readers to Fabio Montale, a disenchanted cop who turns his back on a police force marred by corruption and racism and, in the name of friendship, takes the fight against the mafia into his own hands. Ugo, Manu, and Fabio grew up together on the mean streets of Marseilles where friendship means everything. They promised to stay true to one another and swore that nothing would break their bond. But people and circumstances change. Ugo and Manu have been drawn into the criminal underworld of Europe’s toughest and most violent city. When Manu is murdered and Ugo returns from abroad to avenge his friend’s death, only to be killed himself, it is left to the third in this trio, Det. Fabio Montale, to ensure justice is done. Despite warnings from both his colleagues in law enforcement and his acquaintances in the underworld, Montale cannot forget the promise he once made Manu and Ugo. He’s going to find their killer no matter the consequences. “One of the masterpieces of modern noir.” —The Washington Post “Like the best noir writers—and make no mistake, he is among the best—Izzo not only has a keen eye for detail . . . but also digs deep into what makes men weep.” —Time Out New York “The holy grail of noir fiction . . . a fast paced and stylishly told modern tragedy.” —NB Magazine

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Un racconto fantastico al contrario, in cui i sentimenti ostacolano la serenità e dove il lieto fine non è affatto scontato. Una luna, solitaria, misteriosa, sfuggente e per questo in grado di attrarre inesorabilmente. Un lupo e una stella, gentili, appassionati, capaci di donare il loro cuore. Una drammatica fuga, resa vana dall'intervento del destino, che beffardamente impasta passato e futuro in un amalgama indistinto. Dove però, fortunatamente, esistono ancora i sentimenti positivi.

Book Synopsis Selection of Modern Italian Poetry in Translation by : Roberta L. Payne
Download or read book Selection of Modern Italian Poetry in Translation written by Roberta L. Payne and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2004-07-15 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Payne pays particular attention to poets of the fifties and sixties, futurists, and female poets. She notes that the futurists, who have rarely been translated, were particularly important as they were truly original, attempting to develop new notions of word, line, sound, and phrase. Such new notions make translating them particularly challenging. She also offers a large sampling from poets of the fifties and sixties, many of whom have won the Viareggio Prize. Poems by women in this volume reflect diverse schools and directions while maintaining a distinctly female voice.
