Book excerpt: Excerpt from Minutes of the Twentieth Session of the Louisiana Conference of the Methodist E. Church, South: Held in Mansfield, La., November 29-December 5, 1865, Bishop James O. Andrew, D.D., Presiding Thomas B. Baldwin was born in the State of Georgia, and educated at Emory College, under the Presidency of jdr. George F. Pierce. Some ten years since he removed to Louisiana. In 1859 he was licensed to preach, and in Dec ' ember of the same year was admitted on trial in the Louisiana Conference, at its session held in Franklin. In 1860 he was appointed to the Natchitoches Ct.in 1861 and '2 to Grand Cane Circuit and in 1865 he was granted a superhum erary relation. In 1864 he was junior preacher on the Caddo Circuit. At our last Conference he offered himself as missionary to the army, and was accepted. As was soon ready for duty, and reported in camp, near Alexandria, on the 29th. Day of'jannary last. He was shortly afterwards attacked with typhoid fever, and died on the 9th. Day cmarch,1865. During his illness he remarked, that his attachment to life had been much abated, that he felt quite indifferent to life or death, and an entire resigna tion to the will of God. We made his grave with the soldiers in his death, by the roadside, and near the residence of Mrs. Griffith, in the vicinity of Cotile. Brother Baldwin was a man of'great purity of dharacter, and an excellent preacher. Q. 15. Are all the preadhere blameless in life and official administration? A.
