Book excerpt: This meeting on "Miniaturization of High Energy Physics Detectors" had two principal aims: on the one hand to offer a Danoramic view, as comprehensive as possible, of this new field whose increasing interest can be understood by means of the justified hope to reach completely unconventional experimental aDparata for high energy physics in a short time: on the other hand to search for sufficient and, if Dossible, more advanced solutions to reduce the present (but more and more the future) gigantic experimental apparatuses to human dimensions. It is the conviction of this Organizing Committee that the first aim has been successfully achieved but for the second one there is still much to do; and so in the near future we foresee a new collective thinking over the progress in this field. Apologising for the delayed publication of these proceedings, due to technical reasons, the Organizing Committee thanks Prof. R. Favilli, Magnifico Rettore of the Pisa University, for his precious contribution to the realisation of the meeting and L. Bulleri, the Mayor of Pisa, for the warm welcome to the participants.

Download or read book Flavor Mixing in Weak Interactions written by Ling-Lie Chau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 50-year history of weak interaction since Fermi's pro posal of this coupling has been marked with striking direct inter plays between experimental results and theoretical understanding, e.g. the discoveries of neutrinos, parity violation, and CP vio lation. The recent discoveries of the quark hierarchy, the charm and the beauty, and the intermediate vector bosons W± and ZO have truly made a splendid page in the history of particle physics. It is the purpose of this conference to discuss the questions of quark and lepton generations and mixing, their relations to CP violation, and to ask the questions about what are inside the quarks and the leptons in view of the present and future exper imental situation. Dr. Ling-Lie Chau Brookhaven National Laboratory Upton, New York vii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I would like to thank all the Advisory and Organizing Committee members for their advice and suggestions during the organization of the conference. The running of the conference could not have gone so smoothly without the help of many participants, I sincerely thank: L. Becker, F.J. Botella, S. Gentile, P. Le Comte, M.E. Machacek, L. Download or read book Experimental Techniques in High-energy Nuclear and Particle Physics written by Thomas Ferbel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Techniques in High-Energy Nuclear and Particle Physics is a compilation of outstanding technical papers and reviews of the ingenious methods developed for experimentation in modern nuclear and particle physics. This book, a second edition, provides a balanced view of the major tools and technical concepts currently in use, and elucidates the basic principles that underly the detection devices. Several of the articles in this volume have never been published, or have appeared in relatively inaccessible journals. Although the emphasis is on charged-particle tracking and calorimetry, general reviews of ionization detectors and Monte Carlo techniques are also included. This book serves as a compact source of reference for graduate students and experimenters in the fields of nuclear and particle physics, seeking information on some of the major ideas and techniques developed for modern experiments in these fields.

Book Synopsis Si Detectors and Characterization for HEP and Photon Science Experiment by : Ajay Kumar Srivastava
Download or read book Si Detectors and Characterization for HEP and Photon Science Experiment written by Ajay Kumar Srivastava and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-13 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the HL-LHC experiments and the fourth-generation photon science experiments, discussing the latest radiation hardening techniques, optimization of device & process parameters using TCAD simulation tools, and the experimental characterization required to develop rad-hard Si detectors for x-ray induced surface damage and bulk damage by hadronic irradiation. Consisting of eleven chapters, it introduces various types of strip and pixel detector designs for the current upgrade, radiation, and dynamic range requirement of the experiments, and presents an overview of radiation detectors, especially Si detectors. It also describes the design of pixel detectors, experiments and characterization of Si detectors. The book is intended for researchers and master’s level students with an understanding of radiation detector physics. It provides a concept that uses TCAD simulation to optimize the electrical performance of the devices used in the harsh radiation environment of the colliders and at XFEL.
