Division members have served in WWI, WWII, and Korea and they are still serving in South Korea, Iraq and Fort Lewis today. These are true stories written by the veterans of the Korean Conflict and passed on to me to be included in this book. The book is dedicated to the brave men who fought to preserve our freedoms at a cost that many of us can only imagine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Pulitzer Prize–nominated classic is “one of the most authentic and moving depictions of a woman’s identity and experience” (Appalachian Journal). With her 1926 debut novel, Kentucky writer and poet Elizabeth Madox Roberts delivers a poignant look at a young girl’s coming of age on the farms where her family toils. Ellen Chesser is used to life on the rural roads of Kentucky, traveling from place to place with her family—led by her father, Henry, an itinerant farmer—to put money in their pockets and food in their mouths. But after their wagon breaks down, Henry is offered work on a tobacco farm and a house to stay in—a job that becomes permanent when he is offered the tenant’s place. Accustomed to the wandering life, at first Ellen does not want to settle down, especially with her best friend still on the road. But she soon comes to enjoy the daily rhythms of the farm, her bed, and a newfound feeling of security. And when her father gets an even better job at another farm, Ellen finds that her solitary days have come to end. In the small community, she begins to make friends—and even finds an opportunity to fall in love. But like the seasons, good and bad times come and go, and dark secrets threaten Ellen’s newfound happiness and peace . . . “This is a book that embraces life. . . . Written in a prose at once lucid and arresting, rhythmical, fresh in phrasing and construction, giving always the effect of effortless arrangement.” —The New York Times “This . . . epic novel of Americana is now considered a classic.” —Kentucky Living

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just as generations before them, a close-knit Mennonite family is living a quiet, peaceful life in the farming community of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They are faithful members of their church and hold steadfastly to Mennonite traditions. But the world is quickly changing; natural disasters and calamities are now the norm. This family is also experiencing hardships from a severe drought and now their granddaughter has become ill from another, yet unidentified, virus which is sweeping across their community and around the globe. As they pray, they are guided by God to begin reading two adult Bible study books that were included in the set of Bible Story books they had purchased for the children. They read them, comparing what they say to the Bible and become convinced that they must stand for what is right no matter the consequences. A non-Christian, divorced mother, and her son, living in Mississippi, struggle to survive a devastating earthquake. In the rubble, the son discovers one Bible Story book. They are guided by God to find shelter in the home of a Christian woman, who had taken care of the mother and her brother while their parents worked. The women had told the children about Jesus as she read them stories from those very same Bible Story books the son now holds. She had also taken them to her church every Sabbath. These two families, along with their relatives and friends, are caught up in end-time events: a series of startling circumstances, unexplained occurrences, miraculous healing, the appearance of a messiah, drought, destruction, a worldwide pandemic, and the imminent destruction of the earth by a coming asteroid. All these events occur amidst the issuing of government identification cards, an order to worship on Sunday, and the threat of persecution. As their stories unfold, members of these two families slowly become intertwined with each other as believers who refuse to obey the dictates of government rather than the commandments of God. The world is in turmoil, but the remnant remains, trusting only in God's promises until Jesus comes to rescue them at last!

Book excerpt: For the love of Bessie, grab a glass of milk, pull up a comfy chair, and partake of a cow tale or two These 40 stories by farmers and ranchers in the U.S. and Canada will open your eyes to what really goes on in those pastoral scenes with Holsteins, Jerseys, and other cattle breeds. Read about a 101-year-old cowgirl, close calls with bulls, cows and cops, steer roping, cattle branding, herds escaping, and the lovely dairy princesses promoting the healthful dairy industry. Be an armchair traveler with "Miss Lait" (Miss Milk) on her 1954 trip to France, meet a cow called "Grandma," read up on milking cows with baseball players, and see how butter magically turns into the likenesses of princesses. Meet "Patty" and "Paige" - - the Mother's Day cows, follow "Ferdy" the friendly bull, and learn about "Lulu" - - on the loose. "True Cow Tales is a true joy to read. If you have an association with livestock agriculture you will enjoy these short stories and poems. These brought back many memories of growing up on our family farm. True Cow Tales ought to be a part of everyone's family library and should be shared over and over." - Ken Rahjes, Farm Broadcaster for KRVN Radio, Lexington, Nebraska "As the world is further removed from agriculture, it's increasingly important to learn more about your sources of food, fiber and fuel. True Cow Tales is a truly moo-ving tribute to the beef and dairy industries, from the joy of buying your first cow and naming her Patty - yes, Cow Patty - to the wonder of watching a cow nurse an orphaned calf to the sorrow of no longer being able to financially support your farm. This anthology vividly depicts the importance of agriculture through a collection of stories and poems about the lives of farm animals and the dedicated people who care for them." - James Henry, AgriNews Publications Executive Editor "This anthology is an interesting gathering of a wide variety of stories and reminiscences regarding acquaintances and encounters with cattle." - Heather Smith Thomas, rancher and author of Storey's Guide to Raising Beef Cattle (1998); Essential Guide to Calving (2008); Cattle Health Handbook (2009); and more than 9000 stories and articles about cattle and horses. Ever moo to a cow - - or try not to? You may love cows more than you even realized. For a laugh, check out "Cattle Sillies." Need some adventure? Then turn to "Bovine Drama." Favorite cows are the theme of a chapter by that name. For a walk down "memory lane," flip to "Bovine Wistfulness." And for something quite different, enter the world of "Dairy Princesses" and meet the beautiful young women who love cows and spend an entire year of their lives promoting the dairy industry and handing out milk and cheese samples. Cheddar anyone? Follow your "inner moo." Read these stories for old time's sake, or just come along for the ride. And don't forget to drink your milk
