Download or read book Military Housing written by Carol R. Schuster and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2000-12 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DoD estimates that about 200,000 military family housing (MFH) units are old, lack modern amenities, & require renovation or replacement. To improve MFH more economically & faster, Congress authorized a 5-year pilot program, termed the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI), to allow private sector financing, ownership, operation, & maintenance of military housing. This report reviews the implementation of the MHPI to determine the status of current & planned MFH privatization projects, examine the accuracy of life-cycle cost analyses for proposed projects, & asses progress toward integrating the initiative with other MFH programs. Book Synopsis Family Life Education With Diverse Populations by : Sharon M. Ballard
Download or read book Family Life Education With Diverse Populations written by Sharon M. Ballard and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2012 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Family Life Education with Diverse Populations is a T2 for courses in Family Life Education. Family Studies and Social Work students often go through the additional certification of becoming Family Life Educators (FLEs). As a family life educator, the student will help educate families in and outside the traditional classroom environment on how to strengthen relationships in the home and foster positive individual, couple and family development. Such education comprises many topics, including marriage education, parenting skills, anger management, to strategies in adjusting to divorce. This book takes the content delivered in courses on FLE a step further by examining and presenting key strategies for working with diverse populations. Diverse is defined broadly in terms of race and ethnicity, but also by setting, such as military families, rural families, families with loved ones in prison, and more. The book is unique in defining the group and presenting their strengths, and then prescribing treatments and strategies for working with each group. In addition, the book takes an evidence based practice approach and demonstrates proven strategies in working with the populations listed above. Sharon M. Ballard, Ph.D., CFLE, CFCS: is an Associate Professor in the Department of Child Development and Family Relations at East Carolina University. Alan C. Taylor, Ph.D. CFLE: is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Child Development and Family Relations at East Carolina University.
Book Synopsis Defense infrastructure challenges facing DOD in implementing reform initiatives by :
Download or read book Defense infrastructure challenges facing DOD in implementing reform initiatives written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Secretary's November 10, 1997, DRI was DOD'S latest effort to reform operations and processes. The report was an outgrowth of recommendations made in the Report of the Quadrennial Defense Review. The Quadrennial Defense Review report noted that, while DOD had reduced active duty personnel by 32 percent between 1989 and 1997, it had reduced the number of people performing infrastructure functions by only 28 percent. That report called for significant additional reductions in military and civilian personnel. Reductions called for by the Quadrennial Defense Review and others already planned by DOD would reduce military and DOD civilian personnel end strength levels by an additional 59,000 and 130,000 positions, respectively, below their fiscal year 1998 levels.

Book Synopsis Military housing management improvements needed as the pace of privatization quickens. by :
Download or read book Military housing management improvements needed as the pace of privatization quickens. written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renovating or replacing 168,000 inadequate military family housing units using traditional military construction methods would take over 20 years and cost about $16 billion. In 1996, to improve housing faster and more economically, Congress authorized the Military Housing Privatization Initiative to allow private-sector financing, ownership, operation, and maintenance of military housing. At the request of the Subcommittee on Military Construction, House Committee on Appropriations, GAO examined the reliability of military housing needs assessments, as well as achievement of privatization financial goals and government protections in contract provisions.
Book Synopsis Military housing privatization off to a slow start and continued management attention needed : report to the Secretary of Defense by :
Download or read book Military housing privatization off to a slow start and continued management attention needed : report to the Secretary of Defense written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Department of Defense (DOD) spends about $8 billion annually to provide housing for military members and their families either by paying cash allowances for members to live in private sector housing or by assigning members to military-owned or -leased quarters. Over the past several years, DOD has expressed concern over the poor quality of the military housing inventory and the need for renovations and improvements to bring the housing up to contemporary standards. To improve housing faster and more economically than could be achieved if only traditional military construction appropriations were used, the Congress approved DOD's request for a new initiative, known as the Military Housing Privatization initiative, that allows and encourages private sector financing, ownership, operation, and maintenance of military housing. Under the initiative, DOD can provide direct loans, loan guarantees, and other incentives to encourage private developers to construct and operate housing either on or off military installations. Because it represents a new approach to improving military housing, GAO reviewed the implementation of the new initiative to (1) measure progress to date, (2) assess issues associated with privatizing military housing, and (3) determine whether the new initiative is being integrated with other elements of DOD's housing program.
