Book Synopsis Stakeholder Engagement by : Henry Tran
Download or read book Stakeholder Engagement written by Henry Tran and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2019-12-19 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the topic of the multiple-stakeholders that comprise the education community across the P-20 continuum. In various ways and forms, the authors of the chapters found within this book promote the importance of engaging with the diverse array of stakeholders in order to truly improve education in an increasingly interconnected world. The book itself is divided into two major arcs, the first of which covers community relations and stakeholder engagement in P-12 schools, while the second addresses those same issues in higher education. When one considers the activities that take place within education institutions, there is a realization that they are influenced and driven by much more than just the educators and administrators who occupy the schools. In the editors’ own work, (e.g., see Tran & Bon, 2016), the importance of the inclusion of the viewpoints and inputs of multiple-stakeholders in school decisions when appropriate has been consistently argued, given that the school is considered by many to be a social and communal environment. To address these issues, in this text, this book is lucky to have a collection of peer-reviewed writing that explore various aspects of how multiple-stakeholder input can be used to improve school decisions.

Download or read book Dismantled written by Leanne Kang and published by Teachers College Press. This book was released on 2020 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dismantled is an accessible, critical look at the devolution of local power in the Detroit public school system. The author examines the rise of charter schools and other private enterprises, the eclipse of control from local actors to new players and influences, and the invaluable lessons the experience holds for urban school systems nationwide. Kang provides a compelling narrative of this shift in power beginning in the 1980s and leading to the breakup of Detroit Public Schools in 2016, and concludes with a discussion on the implications and dilemmas of regime change. The text looks at such questions as: What happens when local actors no longer have a voice in what happens to their schools? What are the consequences when teachers and administrators cede control to private interests and cease to participate in decisionmaking? What are some ways to redirect public schooling towards democracy in the aftermath of dismantling the Progressive Era system? Book Features: Examines how a series of policies dismantled the Detroit Public Schools, resulting in new educational characteristics such as the marketization and privatization of schooling. Offers an historical perspective on market-based reform, including why and how race and politics serve as barriers to reform. Explains the role and influence of Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in the Detroit events. Provides a framework from which to envision the next steps for public education in the 21st century.
Download or read book Checkmate written by Alex Graham and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2018-12-17 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine being confined to a fortress for sixteen long years, bound not by shackles of steel but by Machiavellian assurances from the most cunning rulers of a troubled kingdom. And at long last, when the cloak of doublespeak begins to fray, threats of swift punishment replace hollow promises. Power and Greed Destroyed the Detroit Public School System tells the tale of the collapse of the Detroit Public School system at the hands of the most powerful people in Michigan government. The method of destruction was like a chess game where kings, pawns, and a queen strategically maneuvered through the school district until the total dismantlement of the school system was achieved. Under the guise of school reform and promises of providing the children of Detroit with an opportunity of a lifetime, these skilled players persuaded unsuspecting employees and students to be willing participants in their own eventual demise. Like the Flint water crisis, government officials chose money over lives, with Detroit children paying the ultimate price. Checkmate.
