This book was released on 2021-11-10 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does my life have any deeper meaning? Does God really care about me? How can I find and follow my moral compass? What do I do when my faith is shaken to the core? Spiritual trials, doubts, or conflicts are often intertwined with mental health concerns, yet many psychotherapists feel ill equipped to discuss questions of faith. From pioneers in the psychology of religion and spirituality, this book combines state-of-the-art research, clinical insights, and vivid case illustrations. It guides clinicians to understand spiritual struggles as critical crossroads in life that can lead to brokenness and decline--or to greater wholeness and growth. Clinicians learn sensitive, culturally responsive ways to assess different types of spiritual struggles and help clients use them as springboards to change.
Book Synopsis Today the Struggle by : Katharine Bail Hoskins
Download or read book Today the Struggle written by Katharine Bail Hoskins and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2014-11-07 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many writers, from Aristophanes to Joseph Heller, have written about politics. But at certain periods in history, often at times of conflict and turmoil, writers have consciously used their literary talents to support or oppose a specific cause. The 1930s, a decade of widespread social and political breakdown, was such a period. Today the Struggle examines the political involvement of those leading British writers who dedicated their talents to the defense of Nationalists or Loyalists during the Spanish Civil War and who saw that war as symbolic of their own Right-Left dialogue. Conservatives like William Butler Yeats and T. S. Eliot and Roman Catholics like Evelyn Waugh were passionately anti-Communist. They viewed fascism as a bulwark against communism but were unwilling to support the Franco cause actively. Other pro-Nationalists were not so hesitant: Roy Campbell and Wyndham Lewis were ardent participants in the fight against the British left wing. Pro-Loyalists, united only in their antifascism, ranged from conservative to anarchist in political commitment. Their literary contributions included fine poems by W. H. Auden and Stephen Spender, experimental drama by Auden and Christopher Isherwood, and impassioned prose by Rex Warner, George Orwell, and Aldous Huxley. Katharine Hoskins’s principal interest in Today the Struggle is to discover how and why certain writers supported specific political actions, to ascertain the effectiveness of their efforts, and to evaluate the influence of these efforts on their work.

Book Synopsis Other Temptations of Jesus by : John Henson
Download or read book Other Temptations of Jesus written by John Henson and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05-27 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian life is not about giving up, but taking up. The call of Jesus to discipleship is a positive one-love God and your neighbour. It's not about being serious, but happy and loving. It's not a constant battle against small temptations. It's because Jesus didn't spend all his energy fighting the temptations of the world that he was able to withstand genuine temptation. This series of studies of his life takes a look at stories from the gospels which illustrate the way in which temptation came to Jesus in his ministry-the temptation to stay where he was comfortable and known; to divide people into friends and enemies; to avoid confronting problems, and many others. They are the serious temptations we all face, and which Jesus answers.

Book Synopsis Searching for Michael Jackson's Nose by : Scott Feschuk
Download or read book Searching for Michael Jackson's Nose written by Scott Feschuk and published by McClelland & Stewart. This book was released on 2013-12-17 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his first book, National Post columnist Scott Feschuk offers a hilarious, satirical take on trends in television and our peculiar obsession with the famous, the infamous, and the nature of Tom Cruise’s sexuality. Searching for Michael Jackson’s Nose romps through the birth and the future of reality television, takes readers to the all-star parties thrown each summer by the major American television networks, and makes the case that what the world needs now is more – yes, more! – showbiz award shows. It pokes fun at Hollywood’s rich and renowned, and also at Steve Guttenberg. It both applauds and skewers our intensifying fascination with the profoundly inconsequential: tribal councils, celebrity interviews, the crude romantic exploits of bachelors and bogus millionaires. And it takes us on a tour through the prevailing popular culture of the twenty-first century, with stops at the Starship Enterprise, Britney Spears, Sesame Street, the Oscars, Pamela Anderson, a naked Billy Baldwin, and the everchanging facial topography of the King of Pop.
