Book excerpt: The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) may not imply changes in the immigration laws of its signatories, but it will make it easier for people to move freely among Canada, Mexico, and the United States. One of the concerns arising from NAFTA involves meeting the health care needs of people who move from one member country to another. The publication analyzes the legal implications of the access to health care by individuals from NAFTA countries who are temporarily working or residing in another member country. The book compares the health systems of Canada, the United States, and Mexico, focusing on their principles and objectives, legal framework, institutional structure, operational modalities, and outcomes. Detailing the similarities and differences among the systems of these three countries, this publication attempts to anticipate the treaty's potential benefit or detriment to access to health care services and examines the expectations and concerns that free trade generates in this respect.

Book Synopsis The Handbook of Salutogenesis by : Maurice B. Mittelmark
Download or read book The Handbook of Salutogenesis written by Maurice B. Mittelmark and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This in-depth survey of salutogenesis shows the breadth and strengths of this innovative perspective on health promotion, health care, and wellness. Background and historical chapters trace the development of the salutogenic model of health, and flesh out the central concepts, most notably generalized resistance resources and the sense of coherence, that differentiate it from pathogenesis. From there, experts describe a range of real-world applications within and outside health contexts, from positive psychology to geriatrics, from small towns to corrections facilities, and from school and workplace to professional training. Perspectives from scholars publishing in languages other than English show the global relevance of the field. Among the topics in the Handbook: · Emerging ideas relevant to the salutogenic model of health · Specific resistance resources in the salutogenic model of health · The sense of coherence and its measurement · The application of salutogenesis in communities and neighborhoods · The application of salutogenesis to health development in youth with chronic conditions · The application of salutogenesis in mental health care settings The Handbook of Salutogenesis summarizes an increasingly salient field for graduate and professional students of public health, nursing, psychology, and medicine, and for their instructors. It will also appeal to health-related academicians and professionals who wish to have a thorough grounding in the topic.
Download or read book Chile written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1995 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living Standards Measurement Study No. 113. This paper analyzes the extent to which workers in Bolivia face barriers to entry in the formal and informal sectors of the urban labor market. These barriers are most prevalent in the formal sector because of regulation. The higher wages found in the that sector are often regarded as evidence of labor market segmentation. However, wage differences between sectors may also result from compensating wage differentials, which follow from non-monetary returns to the job such as health insurance, utility associated with the workplace, and job security. The author proposes a model that allows testing for labor market segmentation between the two sectors on the basis of cross- sectional data. The methodology incorporates data on ways in which individuals search for new jobs and information about discouraged workers who have stopped searching for jobs. The proposed model accounts for all of the specific features of urban labor markets in developing countries, in particular the existence of a competitive informal sector.
