This book was released on 2011 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a general holistic view of materials degradation without undue emphasis on aqueous corrosion with the neglect of other important topics such as liquid metal corrosion. Discussion of materials degradation is balanced by detailed description and evaluation of surface engineering as a means of managing materials degradation. Thus, the trainee engineer is presented with a comprehensive view of the problem rather than just a part of the problem. The control or management of materials degradation is not only discussed in scientific terms, but the economics or financial aspects of materials degradation and surface engineering is also discussed in detail with the help of analytical models.

Book excerpt: This document specifies the requirements for treated zinc electroplated coatings on steel, including the information to be provided by the purchaser to the supplier and the requirements for heat treatment before and after electroplating. This document does not specify the surface condition of the base metal before zinc electroplating, but defects on the base metal surface will have an adverse effect on the appearance and performance of the coating. This document applies to treated zinc electroplated coatings on iron or steel. This document does not apply to: -- zinc electroplated coatings on unformed steel sheets, strips and wires; -- zinc electroplated coatings for tightly wound springs; -- zinc electroplated coatings for non-protective decorative purposes. The thickness of the electroplating coating on threaded parts can be limited by thread grade or assembly size requirements.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal corrosion is one of the most critical problems which always can bring different severe consequences for facilities. Researchers in the world tend to investigate several methods for mitigating or managing the corrosion phenomenon. In this field, presence of actual issues can be so helpful to anticipate some aspects of novel techniques. The purpose of writing this book is representing the results of various analyzed observations in oil and gas industries as scientific data. On the other hand, researchers can find different helpful information about occurrences which can be conceivable in some operating conditions; therefore, they can use them on the basis of their crucial factors. Also this book represents a lot of recommendations for each part separately. This is because of the exact and accurate analysis of the case histories to depict useful ideas for better perceptions of corrosion phenomenon.

Book excerpt: This book is chiefly intended for those who are using microbicides for the protection of materials. Another purpose is to inform teachers and students working on biodeterioration and to show today's technical standard to those engaged in R&D activities in the microbicide field. When trying to classify, or to subclassify, material-protecting microbicides according to their mode of action, e.g. as membrane-active and electrophilic active ingredients, it turned out that a clear assignment was not always possible. For that reason the author has resorted to chemistry's principle of classifying according to groups of substances (e.g. alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, acids, esters, amides, etc.), thus providing the first necessary information about the micro bicides' properties. The description of the various groups of substances includes, whenever possible, an outline of the mode and mechanism of action of the active ingredients involved. The effective use of microbicides presupposes knowledge of their character istics. That is why the microbicides' chemico-physical properties, their toxicity, ecotoxicity, effectiveness, and effective spectrum are described in greater detail. As mentioned before, the characteristics of microbicides play an important role. They have to be suited to the intended application to avoid detrimental effects on the properties and the quality of the material to be protected; also production processes in which microbicides are used to avoid disturbances by microbial action must not be disturbed by the presence of those microbicides.

Book excerpt: This book introduces the new concept of “nanozyme”, which refers to nanomaterials with intrinsic enzymatic activity, rather than nanomaterials with biological enzymes incorporated on the surface. The book presents the cutting-edge advances in nanozyme, with emphasis on state-of-the-art applications in many important fields, such as in the biomedical fields and for environmental protection. The nanozyme is a totally new type of artificial enzyme and exhibits huge advantages over natural enzymes, including greater stability, low cost, versatility, simplicity, and suitability for industry. It is of interest to university researchers, R&D engineers, as well as graduate students in nanoscience and technology, and biology wishing to learn the core principles, methods, and the corresponding applications of “nanozyme”.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the fundamental concepts, the latest developments and the outlook of the field of nanozymes (i.e., the catalytic nanomaterials with enzymatic characteristics). As one of today’s most exciting fields, nanozyme research lies at the interface of chemistry, biology, materials science and nanotechnology. Each of the book’s six chapters explores advances in nanozymes. Following an introduction to the rise of nanozymes research in the course of research on natural enzymes and artificial enzymes in Chapter 1, Chapters 2 through 5 discuss different nanomaterials used to mimic various natural enzymes, from carbon-based and metal-based nanomaterials to metal oxide-based nanomaterials and other nanomaterials. In each of these chapters, the nanomaterials’ enzyme mimetic activities, catalytic mechanisms and key applications are covered. In closing, Chapter 6 addresses the current challenges and outlines further directions for nanozymes. Presenting extensive information on nanozymes and supplemented with a wealth of color illustrations and tables, the book offers an ideal guide for readers from disparate areas, including analytical chemistry, materials science, nanoscience and nanotechnology, biomedical and clinical engineering, environmental science and engineering, green chemistry, and novel catalysis.
