Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emission properties of materials are required in many industrial and research developments. This works is devoted to the building-up of experimental means extended to the extreme temperatures (40K-2300K) for the measurement of spectral and total directional emissivities and the further application of these measurements in the determination of the termo-optical properties of solids in the infrared wavelength range. From the means of measurement which we developed, we could measure the directional emissivity of coating until a temperature of 40K for the Planck and Herschell satellites then stainless steel and refractory ceramics for a range of temperature of 300K to 1100K as well as conductor and dielectric until a temperature of 2300K.We determined complex refraction index of the Iron-Nickel alloys from inversion of Fresnel equations and measurements of directional spectral emissivities. We study the second-order phase transformation effects on optical index ; we have seen an important hysteresis on thermo-optical properties of the Iron-Nickel alloys.Lastly, some other studies are presented. Reflectivity measurements at the cryogenic temperatures; Study of the metallurgical modifications by infra-red ellipsometry; Far infra-red for nondestructive testing of artworks.
This book was released on 2009 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Supercritical Fluids written by E. Kiran and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supercritical fluids are neither gas nor liquid, but can be compressed gradually from low to high density and they are therefore interesting and important as tunable solvents and reaction media in the chemical process industry. By adjusting the density the properties of these fluids can be customised and manipulated for a given process - physical or chemical transformation. Separation and processing using supercritical solvents such as CO2 are currently on-line commercially in the food, essential oils and polymer industries. Many agencies and industries are considering the use of supercritical water for waste remediation. Supercritical fluid chromatography represents another, major analytical application. Significant advances have recently been made in materials processing, ranging from particle formation to the creation of porous materials. The chapters in this book provide tutorial accounts of topical areas centred around: (1) phase equilibria, thermodynamics and equations of state; (2) critical behaviour, crossover effects; (3) transport and interfacial properties; (4) molecular modelling, computer simulation; (5) reactions, spectroscopy; (6) phase separation kinetics; (7) extractions; (8) applications to polymers, pharmaceuticals, natural materials and chromatography; (9) process scale-up.

This book was released on 2003-03-27 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting a unified approach, this book focusses on the concepts and theoretical methods that are necessary for an understanding of the physics and chemistry of the fluid state. The authors do not attempt to cover the whole field in an encyclopedic manner. Instead, important ideas are presented in a concise and rigorous style, and illustrated with examples from both simple molecular liquids and more complex soft condensed matter systems such as polymers, colloids, and liquid crystals.

Book Synopsis From weather observations to atmospheric and climate sciences in Switzerland by : Saskia Willemse
Download or read book From weather observations to atmospheric and climate sciences in Switzerland written by Saskia Willemse and published by vdf Hochschulverlag AG. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2016 the Swiss Society for Meteorology (Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Meteorologie, SGM) celebrates its 100th anniversary. Compared to other meteorological societies it is not among the oldest ones. Nevertheless, meteorology has gone through such a remarkable evolution in the past 100 years that it is worthwhile to take a look back and recapitulate the developments of both science and SGM – and to reveal their interaction. The idea of this book is to give an overview of what has happened in the field of atmospheric sciences in Switzerland since the first systematic long-term meteorological observations until today.
