Book Synopsis Tectonics and Metallogeny of the Tethyan Orogenic Belt by : Jeremy P. Richards
Download or read book Tectonics and Metallogeny of the Tethyan Orogenic Belt written by Jeremy P. Richards and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tethyan orogenic belt stretches from the Alps, through the Carpathians and Balkans, Taurides and Caucasus, Zagros, Makran, and Himalayas, to Indochina and into the southwest Pacific Ocean. It represents a complete Wilson Cycle, from opening and closure of the Paleotethys Ocean in the mid-Paleozoic to the Late Triassic, opening of the Neotethys Ocean in the Permian-Early Triassic, and its progressive closure throughout the late Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras. In this volume, we present a selection of papers that showcase this advancement in knowledge, with examples from Eastern Europe to South Asia.
Book Synopsis The Central Asian Orogenic Belt by : Alfred Kröner
Download or read book The Central Asian Orogenic Belt written by Alfred Kröner and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a state-of-the-art account of the geology of part of Central Asia named The Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). This Belt formed by accretion of island arcs, ophiolites, oceanic islands, seamounts, accretionary wedges, oceanic plateaux and microcontinents (c. 1000-250 Ma ago) by similar processes to those in the circum- Pacific Mesozoic-Cenozoic accretionary orogens. Also known as Altaids, this region is one of the largest orogenic belts on Earth, extending from the Ural Mountains in the West to far eastern Siberia. It is the product of a complex evolution lasting for more than 800 million years from the latest Mesoproterozoic to the end of the Palaeozoic. The CAOB consists of numerous accreted terranes, made up of island arcs, oceanic plateaux and islands, Precambrian microcontinents and remnants of oceanic crust that are preserved as fragmented ophiolites. Although the broad history if this huge territory is now reasonably well understood there are still major unanswered questions such as the rate and volume of crustal growth, the origin of continental fragments, the detailed mechanism of accretion and collision, the role of terrane rotations during the orogeny, and the age and composition of the lower crust in Central Asia. Large parts of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Siberia and parts of Mongolia) treated in this volume have only been poorly covered in scholarly western publications. Most contributions of this book are by Russian scientists actively involved in field and laboratory research of the CAOB and therefore have an intimate knowledge of the terranes which they describe and analyze. In view of the increasing significance of Central Asia because of its wealth of mineral resources this volume is of interest to readers from all fields of the geosciences and from academics to industry.

Book Synopsis Tectonic and Stratigraphic Evolution of Zagros and Makran During the Mesozoic-Cenozoic by : Pascale Leturmy
Download or read book Tectonic and Stratigraphic Evolution of Zagros and Makran During the Mesozoic-Cenozoic written by Pascale Leturmy and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2010 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Zagros fold-thrust belt (ZFTB) extends from Turkey to the Hormuz Strait, resulting from the collision of the Arabian and Eurasian plates during Cenozoic times, and separates the Arabian platform from the large plateaux of central Iran. In this volume the structure of the Zagros Mountains is explored through different scales and using different methodologies.
Book Synopsis Bureya-Jiamusi Superterrane: Tectonic and Geodynamic Processes in Late Mesozoic - Cenozoic by : Derbeko Inna
Download or read book Bureya-Jiamusi Superterrane: Tectonic and Geodynamic Processes in Late Mesozoic - Cenozoic written by Derbeko Inna and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bureya-Jiamusi superterrane (BJS) is a component of the Amur plate. This is one of the most complex and controversial structures of the eastern Asia. The bulk of the "body" superterrane is located in China, where it is actively researched by the Chinese scientists. The northern border of the structure is directly on the territory of the Amur region and is defined by the boundary of the Mongol-Okhotsk orogenic belt. By Parfenov, the superterrane is bordered by the Paleozoic-early Mesozoic orogenic belts and the North China plate. But there are other ideas about the spatial location of the BJS. All the suggested geodynamic reconstructions of the studied region take into account the interdependence between North-Asian and China-Korea plates and plates of the Pacific basin oceanic crust. The suggested work attempts to show the dependence of the evolution of the Bureya-Jiamusi superterrane on the surrounding geological objects in the late Cretaceous-Cenozoic interval.

Book Synopsis Paleozoic and Mesozoic tectonic evolution of central and eastern Asia by : Gregory Arlen Davis
Download or read book Paleozoic and Mesozoic tectonic evolution of central and eastern Asia written by Gregory Arlen Davis and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2001 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hendrix (geology, U. of Montana) and Davis (earth sciences, U. of Southern California) present 19 articles detailing ground-based work on the history of assembly and intracontinental deformation of central and eastern Asia. Chapters look at the structural, thermochronologic, and sedimentary records of the history of Paleozoic assembly in Mongolia and central and western China. Further information is presented on Mesozoic deformation in orogenic belts of central and eastern Asia. Asia's sedimentary basins are examined and the intracontinental deformation they record is documented. Many of these contributions, particularly the papers examining Mongolian geology, are the first ground-based articles written in English. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
Download or read book Tectonics written by Evgenii Sharkov and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-05-16 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to different aspects of tectonic researches. New results and interpretations are presented here for diverse tectonic settings. Most of the chapters include up-to-date materials of detailed geological investigations, often combined with geophysical data, which can help understand more clearly the essence of mechanisms of different tectonic processes. Some chapters are devoted to the tectonic evolution of regions (East Antarctica, East Kazakhstan, Mongolo-Okhotsk orogenic belt), and others have dealt with the different aspects of tectonic events: influence of detachment structural deformation on pore structure evolution in shales, evolution of drainage in response to brittle-ductile dynamics and surface processes, soft sediment deformation structures triggered by the modern earthquakes, and post-opening deformation history of the Japan Sea back-arc basin.
Book Synopsis Backbone of the Americas by : Suzanne Mahlburg Kay
Download or read book Backbone of the Americas written by Suzanne Mahlburg Kay and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2009 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The American Cordilleras form a continuous orogen that extends for 12,500 km along the eastern flank of the Pacific Ocean from Arctic to Antarctic latitudes as an integral part of the circum-Pacific orogenic belt. Following two summary chapters on the overall anatomy and evolution of North and South American segments of the orogenic system, this volume includes ten seminal chapters dealing with salient aspects of the key geodynamic processes that have accompanied Cordilleran geotectonic evolution: forearc terrane accretion, arc magmatism, shallow subduction, and backarc intracontinental deformation. The papers in this volume were selected from those presented at the 2006 Backbone of the Americas Meeting, which was sponsored jointly by multiple North and South American geological societies in Mendoza, Argentina."--pub. desc.
