Book Synopsis Mesoscale Analysis of Hydraulics by : Weilin Xu
Download or read book Mesoscale Analysis of Hydraulics written by Weilin Xu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-12-03 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents a series of complicated hydraulic phenomena and related mechanism of high-speed flows in head-head dam. According to the basic hydraulic theory, detailed experiments and numerical simulations, microscopic scale analysis on cavitation bubbles, air bubbles, turbulent eddy vortices and sand grains are examined systemically. These investigations on microscopic fluid mechanics, including cavitation erosion, aeration protection, air–water flow, energy dissipation and river-bed scouring, allow a deep understanding of hydraulics in high-head dams. This book provides reference for designers and researchers in hydraulic engineering, environment engineering and fluid mechanics.

Book Synopsis Swelling Concrete in Dams and Hydraulic Structures by : Alain Sellier
Download or read book Swelling Concrete in Dams and Hydraulic Structures written by Alain Sellier and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-07-21 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The swelling of concrete is a major concern for the owners and operators of dams and hydraulic structures. Faced with irreversible movement of their dams or with observations of cracking processes, operators need to explain the phenomena observed in order to justify safety conditions and in some cases to plan remedial works. Over the last 20 years, active research has been carried out in the field, resulting in practical results in phenomena interpretation and dam modeling. At the same time, an increasing number of affected dams have undergone safety re-evaluations and in some cases remedial work. Several of them have been removed altogether. Although it remains difficult to establish a “state of the art” in this domain due to the rapidly changing context, regular international exchanges in the field appear fruitful and necessary. Following on from previous conferences in the field organized by Robin Charlwood, former President of the ICOLD Concrete Committee, the initiative was taken by EDF and Toulouse University-LMDC to organize a workshop to provide a new opportunity for sharing experience. The aim of this workshop is to assemble active researchers, leading engineers, and experts from the practicing community and administration interested directly or indirectly in concrete swelling effects in dams and hydraulic structures. All types of chemical expansion phenomena, including those due to alkali aggregate reactions and those due to ettringite formation, are addressed. These proceedings include 24 papers written by experts renowned in their field, illustrating the need to progress with interdisciplinary approaches.

Book Synopsis Stochastic Hydraulics 2000 by : Z.Y. Wang
Download or read book Stochastic Hydraulics 2000 written by Z.Y. Wang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 917 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The applications of stochastic methods in design by reliability include the better utilisation of hydrological information. With statistical methods one can evaluate the safety component of hydraulic systems. Based on these, extra safety features can be added to ensure the reliable performance of an hydraulic system. One such example is the design of a dam, which features a number of random variables, each with a very distinct and quite different probability function. This book reports on developments in stochastic hydraulics across a wide range of applications, including river hydraulics, sediment transportation, waves and coastal processes, hydrology, hydraulic works and structure, and environmental hydraulics.

Book Synopsis Synoptic-dynamic Meteorology in Midlatitudes: Observations and theory of weather systems by : Howard B. Bluestein
Download or read book Synoptic-dynamic Meteorology in Midlatitudes: Observations and theory of weather systems written by Howard B. Bluestein and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 1992 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synoptic meteorology, the study of large-scale weather systems and forecasting using observation, and dynamic meteorology, the study of the laws of physics involved in air movement, are treated in this major new text in two volumes. The author, a meteorologist noted for his research on tornadoes and severe storms, based his work on material he has taught for the past 14 years at the University of Oklahoma. There are no modern texts on the topic. Volume II covers the formation, motion and climatology of extratropical weather systems in the context of the quasigeostrophic theory and "IPV" thinking, the formation and structure of fronts and jets, applications of semigeostrophic theory, and the observed structure and dynamics of precipitation systems in midlatitudes.
