Book Synopsis La Femme-Enfant by : Roosevelt Lee Carter
Download or read book La Femme-Enfant written by Roosevelt Lee Carter and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-12-23 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: La Femme-Enfant tells the story of Mamere (Corean Pennyman) and her three sisters, Anna, Mary and Queen from 1900 to 1995 from the dusty roads of rural Cotton Valley, Plain Dealing, Sarepta and Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana to Harrison Pennymans mansion atop Nob Hill in San Francisco and the glitz of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California. Mamere (Corean Pennyman) and James Glasgow II were lovers for almost fifty years. He married Diccie Bastille Glasgow when he was eighteen years old. Their marriage ended a land boundary feud that had burned and smouldered between the two families for three generations. Their son, Alexander Glasgow married Jacintha Marguarite Pennyman, Mameres granddaughter, who gave birth to triplets at age fourteen. His mother banished Alexander to Paris. He became a famous painter. Jacintha was secretly locked away in an undisclosed asylum. Diccie Bastille Glasgow sent her chauffeur with a lone crib to Mameres house. Inside the crib was a tiny tot named Harrison Pennyman. She raised the remaining two siblings as her only grandchildren. Their complexion was much lighter than Harrisons was. After thirty-three years, Harrison is finally reunited with his siblings, Deidre and Dalton Glasgow but not before the murder of Andrew Blackwell. He was a co-conspirator in a major art theft ring which was determined to steal the exquisite painting, La Femme-Enfant (The Woman Child) by Alexander Glasgow, his father, during the grand opening of Manslink and McKennas Art Gallery in Beverly Hills.

Book Synopsis The Mother In/and French Literature by : Buford Norman
Download or read book The Mother In/and French Literature written by Buford Norman and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2000 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this volume investigate maternity and the figure of the mother in French literature from France, Switzerland, Quebec and Africa, from the seventeenth century to the present. Drawing on cultural history, psychoanalysis, and feminist theory, as well as more traditional methods, they present maternity as a source of frustration and of joy, mothers as repressed and revered, daughters as wounded and loving, sons as domineering and dependent. Indeed, few things are simple where mothers -- and especially where writing about mothers -- are concerned.
Book Synopsis Rania Matar: L'Enfant-Femme by : Lois Lowry
Download or read book Rania Matar: L'Enfant-Femme written by Lois Lowry and published by Damiani Limited. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world of endless photographing, tagging, and posting images online, what is a preteen girl's relationship to the camera? Upending assumptions of contemporary digital image-making practices, photographer Rania Matar reframes these young women through her poignant portraits of them, revealing in 'L'Enfant-Femme' how girls between the ages of 8 and 12 interact with the camera and in so doing depicts them in deeply personal and poetic ways. Addressing themes of representation, voyeurism, and transgression, Matar's images remind us of the fragility of yough while also gesturing towards its unbridled curiosity and joy. Candidly capturing her subjects at a critical juncture in the early stages of adolescence, Matar's images convey the confluence of angst, sexuality, and personhood that defines the progression from childhood into adulthood.

Download or read book Revisioning Duras written by Janet Sayers and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extraordinary range, complexity and power of Marguerite Duras – novelist, dramatist, film-maker, essayist – has been justly recognized. Yet in the years following her death in 1996, there has been an increasing tendency to consecrate her work, particularly by those critics who approach it primarily in biographical terms. The British and American specialists featured in this interdisciplinary collection aim to resurrect the Duras corpus in all its forms by submitting it theoretically to three main areas of enquiry. By establishing how far Duras’s work questions and redefines the parameters of literary and cinematic form, as well as the categories of race and ethnicity, homosexuality and heterosexuality, fantasy and violence, the contributors to this volume "revision" Duras’s work in the widest sense of the term.

Book Synopsis Brunet Saunier Architecture by : Pascale Blin
Download or read book Brunet Saunier Architecture written by Pascale Blin and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Founded in 1981 in Paris, Brunet Saunier Architecture is a French leader in the design of hospitals and large-scale public buildings. This publication is much more than a monograph. It is also a professional reference work, as hospital buildings make up a large portion of the showcased projects. Over the last ten years the architectural office has been developing a successful concept known as “Monospace”. The book discusses and analyzes this concept in detail, presenting trueto- scale floor plans, cross-sections, architectural views, and other information. The Monospace concept – which is based on a process of creative reduction down to essentials, i.e. “simplexity” – is adaptive rather than normative or prescriptive, and based on probabilities rather than determinism. It respects energy, even when it sometimes uses it. It takes the individual’s experience into account, and starts from the position of the subject. It also permits changing perspectives. This design concept should attract attention far beyond the borders of France.
