Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Review Books Original In 1908, deep in Siberia, it fell to earth. THEIR ICE. A young man on a scientific expedition found it. It spoke to his heart, and his heart named him Bro. Bro felt the Ice. Bro knew its purpose. To bring together the 23,000 blond, blue-eyed Brothers and Sisters of the Light who were scattered on earth. To wake their sleeping hearts. To return to the Light. To destroy this world. And secretly, throughout the twentieth century and up to our own day, the Children of the Light have pursued their beloved goal. Pulp fiction, science fiction, New Ageism, pornography, video-game mayhem, old-time Communist propaganda, and rampant commercial hype all collide, splinter, and splatter in Vladimir Sorokin’s virtuosic Ice Trilogy, a crazed joyride through modern times with the promise of a truly spectacular crash at the end. And the reader, as eager for the redemptive fix of a good story as the Children are for the Primordial Light, has no choice except to go along, caught up in a brilliant illusion from which only illusion escapes intact.

Arriving at Lolly’s home, Gabriel spots strangers through the windows—one of them packing a weapon—and kicks into combat mode. But once Lolly is rescued, the heat—and the hunt—are on. Snowbound, unarmed, and literally under the gun, Gabriel and Lolly must depend on each other to endure the merciless forces of nature and evade the ruthless enemy out in the blackness of the silent night—and out for their blood.

Book excerpt: Kurt Austin races to Antarctica to stop a chilling plot that imperils the entire planet in the latest novel from the #1 New York Times-bestselling Grand Master of Adventure. In the early days of World War II, the infamous German Luftwaffe embark upon an expedition to Antarctica, hoping to set up a military base to support their goal of world domination. Though the military outpost never comes to fruition, what the Nazis find on the icy continent indeed proves dangerous...and will have implications far into the future. In the present day, Kurt Austin and his assistant Joe Zavala head to the freezing edge of the world after a former NUMA colleague disappears in Antarctica. While there, they discover a photo of the Luftwaffe expedition of 1939, and are drawn into a decades-old conspiracy. Even as they confront perilous waters and frigid temperatures, they are also up against a terrifying man-made weapon--a fast-growing ice that could usher in a new Ice Age. Pitted against a determined madman and a monstrous storm, Kurt and the NUMA team must unravel the Nazi-era plot in order to save the globe from a freeze that would bury it once and for all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Joseph remains one of the Bible's most endearing stories. Joseph's journey from his brother's betrayal to his family's savior shows us what one man can do when his circumstances do not define him but provide an opportunity for him to reach his ultimate purpose. This classic tale's themes of envy, revenge, despair, forgiveness, and reconciliation compel the reader to reevaluate how they handle their own circumstance and offers the solution of working selflessly to improve the lives of others as the first step. A modern retelling of this story requires the reader to allow for adequate dramatic license for the plot to unfold. The timeline is compressed for the modern reader, and several character roles are adjusted. The brother's plot against Joseph is intact but given a modern twist to allow for story development. In the original story, the nature of the prison is not disclosed. Joseph's interaction with the king's prisoners indicate it was as special type of prison. This modern version takes place in an FCP or "Country Club Prison" located next to a Federal Correctional Institute. This type of prison normally holds white-collar criminals. With that in mind, as Pastor John Hagee is known to say, "Enter into the theatre of your mind," and enjoy a modern twist on the story of Joseph.
