Often considered the marque's best-engineered cars of all time, they are increasingly sought after as modern classics, yet many are still suitable to drive every day. From the taxi ranks of Germany to the dusty roads of North Africa, many of these cars have led a hard life, and examples in good condition are becoming ever more difficult to find. What are the true running costs, and what issues - with the mechanicals, body or interior - should you be wary of? Is a restoration worth considering? This handy guide will take you step-by-step through the process of finding and evaluating a good W123 and making a successful purchase. Essential data and information about clubs and specialists will help you look after and enjoy your W123 today.

Book Synopsis MERCEDES-BENZ, The 1970s, W116 by : Bernd S. Koehling

Book excerpt: The Mercedes W116 was the first executive car that was called "S-Class". Wide, angular headlamps replaced the upright lamps of the older Benz models. In terms of driving comfort, prestige, safety equipment and quality, there was nothing comparable in 1972, at least not in the sum of all its components. At the top of the food chain was the 450SEL 6.9. But the 1970s oil crises did not exactly come at the right time for such cars; especially in the US, gas-guzzling V8 engines fell rapidly in popularity. The solution arrived in North American showrooms in 1978 with the first turbo diesel engine in a luxury sedan: the 300SD. This 210-page book tells the story of the W116. It walks you through the cars' history, explains chassis number and data card, lists the option codes and comes with a comprehensive buyer's guide. All this is accompanied by superb recent non-Daimler AG color photography. This guide is one of over twenty-five books and e-books about Mercedes cars, written by the author. And these are some of the topics covered: you will read about the complete development and history of the five-, six-, and eight-cylinder sedans, all upgrades included a comprehensive buyer's guide will help you to check the trouble spots chassis number and data card are explained in great detail most option codes are listed what is my W116 worth? Price development from Feb. 2011 to Feb. 2019 it compares the 450SE with the Cadillac Seville I Paint and upholstery options Technical specifications, including power&torque curves of all models from the 280S to the 450SEL 6.9 over 140 mostly recent non-Daimler AG color photos highlight many features of the various W116 models; this includes pictures of the suspension. This guide ends with a free book offer. Enjoy! Why is this book not available as hard cover? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: - A thrilling photographic account of the treasure trove of cars kept by the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart that are not currently on display to the public The Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart is one of the largest and most visited industrial museums in the world. But the 160 or so automobiles on display are only a small part of the shiny chrome treasures that form the Mercedes-Benz Classic vehicle collection. Another 1,000 historical models are 'parked' in secret places outside Stuttgart - these secret places are called the 'Holy Halls'. This collection is the treasure trove of the brand. It has existed since 1923 and offers a comprehensive overview of the model history of Mercedes-Benz. Cars with special technology and equipment are stored here, as are the silver arrows of Caracciola, Lang and Fangio, the Pope's carriages, the state cars of the young Federal Republic of Germany or Mercedes models that became collectors' items due to their prominent previous owners. Some of these exhibits are well protected and waiting in special wooden boxes for their next use at exhibitions, fairs, events or classic car races. Others stand next to each other as silent witnesses of the past. Each time a model is modified, the collection is extended by the last vehicle of the discontinued series, which experts believe will be one of tomorrow's classic cars. The 'Holy Halls' are not open to the public; enquiries from editorial offices and TV teams have often been rejected. But, during the years 2016 to 2018, almost all the vehicles of the Mercedes collection were photographed. Thus, a unique photographic collection was created, the automobile history from more than ten decades; many of the previously unpublished photographs are exclusively available here in this book. In addition, Mercedes-Benz Classic agreed to open the 'Holy Halls' for an external photo team and provide information about the car models stored there. For the first time, it has been possible to produce a fascinating illustrated book with panoramic and detailed shots from the 'halls', and lively photo reports on cars that tell stories - from the first Benz batting motor car to the latest Formula 1 racing car. Equally thrilling are the stories of the unique specimens and prototypes that are stored in the 'Holy Halls': Mercedes models that never went into production are presented for the first time. The stories about the selected automobiles of the vehicle collection are supplemented by historical recordings from the Mercedes-Benz Classic archive.

Download or read book Mercedes-Benz - the Grand Cabrios and Coupés written by and published by TeNeues. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nothing says summer like driving a convertible. The car without a roof has always been a symbol for luxury and "laissez-faire." And it still holds true today: everybody who's anybody drives "topless." The larger four-seater convertibles in particular have always been highly sought after--but they are difficult to build and have usually been made as coupes for this reason. Mercedes-Benz has always been a pioneer in this area. "Mercedes-Benz: The Grand Cabrios & Coupes" gives us a peek at the long-standing partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Stuttgart-based photographer Rene Staud. Carefully staged photos show graceful curves and precision down to the finest details that convey the company's dedication to a very special kind of driving pleasure. This volume presents the most important convertibles and related coupes from 100 years of Daimler automotive history. A special highlight is Daimler's new flagship, a convertible based on the new S-class that is being rolled out at the 2015 IAS. Even though summer eventually comes to an end, and sunny days can give way to showers, this book stands for everlasting convertible adventures."
