Discover ingenious techniques to overcome fear, greed, and the cognitive biases that are sapping your profit potential. Anyone who trades knows it can be hard to take a loss or to run a winner. That's because your brain is actively working against you when you trade. Fear and greed are two of its biggest weapons, and it won't hesitate to deploy them against your best efforts to turn a profit. Trading would become stress-free, and bigger profits would follow. In this groundbreaking new book, Harvey Walsh goes further than ever before in deconstructing the evolutionary developments and learned behaviours that have programmed us for failure in the markets. Armed with that information, he has developed a series of brain hacks - simple yet powerful tricks and techniques anyone can use to turn around their built-in disadvantages and use them to supercharge their trading. Here's just some of what you'll discover inside: * How to make your trading relaxing and fun by subverting your fear-engine. * Ingenious hacks to boost your profit by commandeering your cognitive biases and heuristics. * How to harness the awesome power of addiction and have it improve every trade you take. * Slay the monsters that haunt every trader and build an impenetrable shield against self-doubt. * What cheat-heuristics are, why they're good for you, and how to use them ethically. * How trading less can mean you make more money. Book excerpt: Your brain is your biggest barrier to success in the markets. It doesn’t have to be this way. Discover ingenious techniques to overcome fear, greed, and the cognitive biases that are sapping your profit potential. Trading should be easy, but sometimes our brains make it tough. It’s not our fault, evolution has hard-wired human beings to fail in the markets. Fear, greed, and other destructive emotions harass us into making poor decisions. Most trading teachers will tell you to “run your winners and cut your losses early,” and “banish fear and greed if you want to succeed.” Great advice, but let’s face it, it’s about as useful as saying “if you want to quit smoking, stop putting cigarettes in your mouth”. If only it was that easy! Anyone who trades knows it can be hard to take a loss or to run a winner. That’s because your brain is actively working against you when you trade. Fear and greed are two of its biggest weapons, and it won’t hesitate to deploy them against your best efforts to turn a profit. But what would happen if, instead of hampering your trading, your fear and greed worked for you? What if you could harness their power and energy and use them for good? Trading would become stress-free, and bigger profits would follow. In this groundbreaking new book, Harvey Walsh goes further than ever before in deconstructing the evolutionary developments and learned behaviours that have programmed us for failure in the markets. Armed with that information, he has developed a series of brain hacks - simple yet powerful tricks and techniques anyone can use to turn around their built-in disadvantages and use them to supercharge their trading. Here’s just some of what you’ll discover when you read Brain Hacks For Traders: - How to make your trading stress-free by subverting your fear-engine. - Ingenious brain hacks to boost your performance and profit by commandeering your inbuilt cognitive biases and heuristics. - How to harness the awesome power of addiction and have it improve every single trade you take. - A simple but smart tactic that will trick your mind into revealing what’s really on a chart. - What a racing driver’s pants can teach us about human fallibility, and how that same weakness can become our saviour. - How to slay the monsters that haunt every trader, and build an impenetrable shield against self-doubt. - The one document every trader needs to improve their entry selection exponentially. - What cheat-heuristics are, why they’re good for you, and how to use them ethically. - How trading less can mean you make more money. - Five different ways to beat the boredom and keep yourself focussed. You can’t profit from a trade you missed, so make sure you don’t miss any. Brain Hacks For Traders is perfect for traders working in any market and any time frame. Scalpers, day traders, and swing traders will all benefit. The techniques in the book apply to any instrument too, be it stocks, futures, forex, options, or commodities. Book excerpt: Your Trading Brain provides a unique approach to mental management from a biological perspective. The fundamental problem traders face is that the human brain wasn't designed for the psychological aspects of trading, and it naturally works in a myriad of paradoxical ways that directly oppose trading success. It’s always us that ultimately beats ourselves, but we don’t know why – because the true nature of what’s beating us is unknown. The working cognitive parts haven’t been dissected, the cause-and-effect relationships haven’t been closely studied, and their counterproductive effects on our self-control and decision-making haven’t been realized. Your Trading Brain aims to exclusively focus on this vital subject and clearly illustrate the powerful forces of nature that traders are up against. Not in an abstract psychological way (which is also important) but in core neuroscientific ways that approach performance problems directly at their biological sources. By leveraging profound and practical insights from the fields of neuro and behavioral science, we’ll explore the universal problem areas each trader encounters, provide explanations for their occurrence, and offer effective strategies to address them at their points of origin. Here’s a summary of the topics covered in Your Trading Brain: The Primal Brain: Our investigation will begin by uncovering the primal origins of our emotions, how they’re generated, the unique and specific ways in which they derail traders, and how to manage them on a biological level. The Modern Brain: You’ll learn how our brains use dual-process thinking to make quick judgments and deliberate decisions. We’ll examine the benefits and disadvantages of each process and how to avoid making judgment mistakes. Willpower: You’ll also learn about the limitations of willpower along with uncommonly known paradoxes that every trader should be knowledgeable of and prepared to mitigate. The Subconscious Mind: Finally, we’re going to delve into the territory of the unconscious and explore the enigmatic processes of the subconscious mind. We’ll investigate the mysterious inner workings that guide our attention, perceptions, and behavior in unconscious ways and learn how to develop a well-rounded mindset that supports our outcomes from an unconscious level. Mental Training: In the second section of the book, we’ll create a 4-page self-knowledge worksheet with the aim of exploring and documenting your unique counterproductive tendencies. Furthermore, you’ll be guided through 3 simple and effective mental training exercises, focusing on thoughts, feelings, and actions to help develop your brain into a peak-performance machine. When you finish Your Trading Brain, you’ll have gained a unique and vital understanding of the mental playing field along with supportive strategies and practices to help navigate its many hidden pitfalls.

Book excerpt: The emotions and mental states that dictate success or failure in Stock /Commodity and Forex Markets. Trading psychology refers to the aspects of an individual’s mental makeup that help determine whether he or she will be successful in buying and selling securities for a profit. Trading psychology is as important as other attributes such as knowledge, experience and skill in determining trading success. Discipline and risk-taking are two of the most critical aspects of trading psychology, since a trader’s implementation of these aspects is critical to the success of his or her trading plan. While fear and greed are the two most commonly known emotions associated with trading psychology, other emotions that drive trading behaviour are hope and regret. In this book on trading psychology, you will learn: • The importance of controlling your emotions when making trading decisions • How to master self-discipline and stick to a trading plan • How to learn from mistakes so you do not repeat them • How to refine your skills through simulated paper trading without risking money • How to have a confident mindset while maintaining a flexible and open mind when trading The best traders are always looking for an edge. Sometimes, the largest obstacle between you and trading successfully is yourself. Success can be more about your mindset and less about the markets. From managing and evaluating your own performance to setting rules and sticking to them, these titles will help you create and stick to a trading plan, manage stress, address risk, and not be derailed by emotions or preconceptions.

Book excerpt: Why Should You Buy This Book? Self-control is probably the most important skill you need to acquire as a trader. Unfortunately, most trading psychology books can be very vague and short on specific strategies to take control of your mental state while trading. Trading psychology shares equal importance with money management and the trading system, yet most traders remain unaware of the importance of considering their trading psychology when designing a trading system. What traders need is an unambiguous trader psychology system that can easily slot into whatever system they are trading and enable them to trade their system according to their trading plan. Control Your Inner Trader draws on the experience of an eight-year trading veteran who is also a qualified therapist. Behavioral and therapeutic techniques are included in the book that are easy for anyone to follow. Reader Reviews QCD Well worth the time and money... Ms. Thomas makes some analogies in her books that I have NEVER read in other trading psychology books. Excellent. Well worth the money. This book, combined with "Overcome Your Fear in Trading" are most excellent. Made me want to look into some of her other works. I was not disappointed Alan 5.0 out of 5 stars A refreshing new angle on how to improve trading results. Few trader psychology books deliver on sufficient tools. This book is surprisingly different. Despite being short compared to other well-known top trader books as "Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas" and "Trading for a Living by Alexander Elder" I must say that "Control Your Inner Trader" is definitely among the better ones. Any trader who believe that he or she can improve despite even good results will find this book have a refreshing new angle on how one can improve behavior and become a much better trader. This book is time well spent. Patrick Higdon Great Book! Useful, quick and to the point! Useful, quick and to the point. I highly recommend this book to anyone experiencing trading frustrations. Many times the first thing we question is our "system" or methodology when the greatest obstacle to success is ourselves, our "Inner Trader." This book is worth a read of you're just starting out or have been trading for a long time. Alastair Forres Very helpful book indeed, in a difficult subject area For a short book, I found more practical solutions for erroneous mental habits whilst trading, than you might ever imagine. This is (for me) the most difficult area of trading and the author LR Thomas has got right the nub of issues with no fluff or filler. I am adopting parts of this book as my mantra.

Book excerpt: A step-by-step system for mastering trading psychology. Think about your most costly and recurring trading mistakes. Chances are that they’re related to common errors, such as chasing price, cutting winners short, forcing mediocre trades, and overtrading. You’ve likely tried to fix these errors by improving your technical skills, and yet they persist. That’s because the real source of these mistakes is not technical—they actually stem from greed, fear, anger, or problems with confidence and discipline. If you are like most traders, you probably overlook or misunderstand mental and emotional obstacles. Or worse, you might think you know how to manage them, but you don’t, and end up losing control at the worst possible time. You’re leaving too much money on the table, which will either prevent you from being profitable or realizing your potential. While many trading psychology books offer sound advice, they don’t show you how to do the necessary work. That’s why you haven’t solved the problems hurting your performance. With straight talk and practical solutions, Jared Tendler brings a new voice to trading psychology. In The Mental Game of Trading, he busts myths about emotions, greed, and discipline, and shows you how to look past the obvious to identify the real reasons you’re struggling. This book is different from anything else on the market. You’ll get a step-by-step system for discovering the cause of your problems and eliminating them once and for all. And through real stories of traders from around the world who have successfully used Tendler’s system, you’ll learn how to tackle your problems, improve your day-to-day performance, and increase your profits. Whether you’re an independent or institutional trader, and regardless of whether you trade equities, forex, or cryptocurrencies, you can use this system to improve your decision-making and execution. Finally, you have a way to reach your potential as a trader. Now’s the time to make it happen.

You are a danger to yourself and to your account at this juncture, your mind and brain are telling you that you can make unlimited amounts of money from trading and investing in the financial markets. The good news is you can, the even better news is that you can do it from anywhere in the world you choose to be at any given moment as long as your head is in the game the right way. Beginner Trading Psychology 101 affords readers who are brand new to trading and investing the opportunity to really learn and expand their knowledge base as new traders from someone who came up on his own and trades and invests and trades with real money on a daily basis. The market is not a big secret and all of the information you need to make a trading decision is right out in the open on your trading chart. Much of what the current trading education industry is putting out is not only giving you information that is all backwards, is very unrealistic to do in the live markets, and can get you into a lot of trouble. There are very few books that deal with just how important the psychology of trading really is and brand new self-directed investors and traders have no idea what they up against and real money traders know what psychological mistakes you are going to make before you make them, beginner traders are who professionals get paid from in the live market. Beginner Trading Psychology 101 should be a must read for beginner and inexperienced traders looking to build their foundations and strategies. It is my hope that one day it could be taught as a course at all of the top business schools and should be required reading for anyone who has zero knowledge of trading and investing who wants to get into it and do it as a business. If you are a brand new self-directed investor and trader with zero knowledge of the business you should not skip one word of Beginner Trading Psychology 101.
