A pain that starts in the middle and traverses throughout your entire being. The hurt was so bad that it felt as if it lasted forever. This type of pain can only be inflicted by someone who is close to you. The pain that I am referring to is caused by rejection. This book is about my journey. I will share with you my experiences of pain, isolation, and feelings of turn around as God begins to change me from the inside out. First, you have to realize who you are. The Word of God tells you in Ephesians 1:4, that you are loved and chosen without fault in the eyes of God. "... just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love." May you experience your own healing and deliverance on your own journey as you walk through Mending the Broken Pieces, a Story of Rejection.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She was raised to keep family secrets. Although it was not a direct command, she knew it was an indirect expectation. She knew what happened in the house, and their lives stayed there, and no one outside could know. Her family was the best to the outside world, but they who lived in the house knew differently. That cycle continued until Trina San was grown and raising her own family. She experienced many challenges in my life, and at times, wanted to quit on herself. Her earliest memory of witnessing domestic violence between her parents shattered her childhood innocence, and those broken pieces stayed broken throughout most of her life. From learning of her mom's diagnosis as being mentally unstable to the teasing about her weight in school to the attempted rape, the promiscuity, and teen pregnancy; to the failed men, the failed marriage, and the lack of self-worth - there was never an end in sight to mending her broken pieces.Trina's knees should have been bloody because she often cried out to God to stop her pain. She wanted her life to be easy, but it wasn't for so many years. The infidelities, lies, fear, doubts, insecurities, and divorce kept shattering the already broken pieces. She finally realized that through all those troublesome times, God was with her even when she did not know it. An incredible story of restoration, Author Trina San's story, Mending My Broken Pieces, will have you sitting on the edge of your seat from the very first page wondering; will the cycle of brokenness ever end?

Book excerpt: The sister of “La Diva de la Banda”—legendary Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera—opens up for the first time about Jenni’s untimely death and her own triumph over abuse and addiction. Growing up as the youngest Rivera, Rosie was surrounded by unconditional love, support, and affection. There was nothing that her family wouldn’t do for her, especially her sister Jenni, who was the most important thing in the world to Rosie. With her strong will and a solid foundation, Rosie was set to conquer the world. Yet life would take a drastic turn when Rivera was scarred by sexual abuse within her family at a very young age. Living in fear and confined by painful secrets, she was plagued with constant threats, confusion, and pain. Not only was she stripped of her childhood and innocence, but she was also robbed of her confidence and self-worth. Feeling completely shattered and lost, Rivera plunged into a world of damaging habits and deep depression. For the first time ever, and with unflinching candor and courage, Rosie shares the traumatic details of her abuse and the daily struggle to live and how, through faith and the love of her family, she found life once more. Yet Rosie’s life would be severely impacted once again as the worst tragedy imaginable hit and her biggest fear came to reality—the death of her beloved sister. Equally harrowing and uplifting, Rosie’s story is a true testament to beating the odds and proves that despite the worst of times and no matter how many more challenges life has in store, it is always possible to pick up the pieces and find the strength and purpose to dream and live again. We are, instead, forced to work with the choices of our parents and caregivers. The puzzle of life can take shape in various ways. Some are given the bigger picture early on, while many others must search for their missing pieces along the journey like a scavenger hunt. However, many people, after reaching a certain place in life, quit and settle for the incomplete view of the puzzle. Exhausted by the frustration and pain of the journey, they cease the pursuit of truth and purpose. I searched and found the missing piece in all the wrong places. This piece will fill in the gaps of your incomplete life's puzzle. Let's review the puzzle pieces of your journey as you apply this key piece in order to complete the incomplete picture of your life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first biography of Susan Sontag (1933–2004) is now fully revised and updated, providing an even more intimate portrayal of the influential writer's life and career. The authors base this revision on Sontag's newly released private correspondence—including emails—and the letters and memoirs of those who knew her best. The authors reveal as never before her early years in Tucson and Los Angeles, her conflicted relationship with her mother, her longing for her absent father, and her precocious achievements at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Chicago. Papers, diaries, and lecture notes, many accessible for the first time, spark a passionate fire in this biography. The authors follow Sontag as she abruptly ends an early first marriage, establishes herself in Paris, and embraces the open lifestyle she began as a teenager in Berkeley. As a single mother she struggled with teaching at Columbia University and other colleges while aiming for a career as a novelist and essayist. Eventually she made her own way in New York City after acquiring her one and only publisher, Farrar, Straus & Giroux. In her later years Sontag became a world figure, a tastemaker, dramatist, and political activist who risked her life in besieged Sarajevo. Love affairs with men and women troubled her. Diagnosed with cancer, she responded with determination, and her experience with illness inspired some of her best writing. This biography shows Sontag always craving “more life” at whatever cost and depicts her harrowing final decline even as she resisted terminal cancer. Susan Sontag: The Making of an Icon, Revised and Updated presents in candid and stark relief a new assessment of a heroic and controversial figure.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: G. R. F. Ferrari offers a new framework for understanding different ways in which we communicate with each other. He explores the idea of "intimations": social interactions that approach outright communication but do not quite reach it. The metaphor from which he starts is that of a communicative scale or switch, which goes from "off" (no communication intended) to fully "on" (outright communication). Intimations lie in between. Three intermediate positions are identified: quarter-on, half-on, and three-quarters-on. Progression along the communicative scale is determined by the extent to which what comes across in the transmission is required to come across by recognition of the intention of the transmitting party. At a quarter-on, it is required not to; at half-on, it is neither required to nor required not to; at three-quarters-on, it is required to, but only partially; at full-on, it is required to, and the recognition is complete. The half-on intimation is primarily used for impression-management in social life. To illustrate it, the book concentrates on fashion and the "messages" we send with our clothes. With the quarter-on and three-quarters-on intimation, the focus of argument is on the fact that transmissions at the same position of the communicative scale have the same underlying structure, whether they are made in the formal arts or in daily life outside the arts. For the quarter-on intimation, the formal art is lyric poetry; for the three-quarters-on intimation, it is storytelling. The book discusses storytelling at length, and at the end investigates its connection to situational irony.

Book excerpt: The Egyptians in Exodus 1 were intent on enslaving the Israelites, wearing them down so that God’s chosen people would become disillusioned and not live up to their destiny. Of the original two million Israelites who received God’s invitation to enter the Promised Land, only two actually entered it! Similarly, modern day Christians often hear and understand the promises of God each Sunday morning at church but then rarely choose to experience them in everyday life. In One in a Million, Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer invites us to change that pattern for good, living beyond our circumstances and expecting to see God move in miraculous ways day after day. Without a doubt, we can find and follow God’s purpose for our journey. We can make it to the Promised Land!
