During the winter of 1914 a huge fissure was started in the affairs of fox-hunting which has gradually grown in width. Old customs, traditions and methods that were considered essential to the sport have been swept into the dustbin. Pessimists with gloomy faces will tell you that hunting is at an end, and that the fox will soon be extinct; but I am firmly convinced that the sport will rise triumphant from the ashes of the past, and with a brighter future will become established on a broader basis. Although many good sportsmen have been killed, there are still plenty left, and many more growing up. This appears to me to be the ideal moment to redeem my long-delayed promise to the publishers and to chat over the past - the five and thirty years preceding the war. I think the love of hunting is inherent with most of us in a greater or less degree, but the degrees have a very wide range, and there are some in whom it is almost imperceptible. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunting literature had its beginnings as early as the fourteenth century, when nobles hunted stag, bear, fox, and other game on horseback. As foxhunting grew in popularity, literary works that covered the sport flourished, as well. In Six Centuries of Foxhunting: An Annotated Bibliography, M. L. Biscotti has compiled all books produced in Great Britain and the United States that pertain to, or mention, foxhunting with hounds. Arranged alphabetically by author, more than 2000 titles are included. Each entry features details such as place and year of publication, publisher, book size, page count, illustrations, and binding. Nearly every title is also annotated with a description of the book’s contents, and biographical sketches are provided for the most notable authors. Narratives, histories, illustrated works, verse, fiction, and even anti-hunting literature all have their place in this volume. Six Centuries of Foxhunting also features more than thirty images of book covers and foxhunting illustrations. With appendixes that contain author, title, and illustrator time lines, and separate author and title indexes, this comprehensive bibliography is a valuable resource for researchers, book dealers and collectors, and foxhunters.

Inspector Jury finds no easy answers in his investigation—not even the identity of the victim, a beautiful young woman. And who was her murderer?

When Maggie Kaye and Sam Dee join the Bishops Well archaeological dig, they are as surprised as everyone else to unearth a body that was buried there less than fifty years ago. It can't possibly be the remains of an ancient Celt. Maggie, with her usual flair - and psychic intuition - is convinced that there is more to this discovery than meets the eye. And some Bishops residents seem to know a lot more about the case than they are willing to let on. But nobody is as shocked as Maggie when a face from the past - a face she thought she'd never see again - appears in the village, and long-hidden secrets begin to surface. With danger at her door, and Sam by her side, can Maggie uncover the truth before it's too late? A TWISTY NEW WHODUNNIT, FOR FANS OF BETTY ROWLANDS, FAITH MARTIN AND JOY ELLIS. What readers are saying about Anna Legat: 'Brilliant. I didn't want to put it down!' 'It's a rare author who can keep me guessing until the end - and the ending was a shocker' 'Plenty of twists and turns' 'A brilliantly complex spaghetti of unrelated sub-plots to challenge any armchair sleuth' 'I thoroughly enjoyed this book, reading it cover to cover in a weekend' 'I shall look out for more from Ms Legat'
