Book Synopsis Out of the Ordinary by : Michael Dillon/Lobzang Jivaka
Download or read book Out of the Ordinary written by Michael Dillon/Lobzang Jivaka and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now available for the first time—more than 50 years after it was written—is the memoir of Michael Dillon/Lobzang Jivaka (1915–62), the British doctor and Buddhist monastic novice chiefly known to scholars of sex, gender, and sexuality for his pioneering transition from female to male between 1939 and 1949, and for his groundbreaking 1946 book Self: A Study in Ethics and Endocrinology. Here at last is Dillon/Jivaka’s extraordinary life story told in his own words. Out of the Ordinary captures Dillon/Jivaka’s various journeys—to Oxford, into medicine, across the world by ship—within the major narratives of his gender and religious journeys. Moving chronologically, Dillon/Jivaka begins with his childhood in Folkestone, England, where he was raised by his spinster aunts, and tells of his days at Oxford immersed in theology, classics, and rowing. He recounts his hormonal transition while working as an auto mechanic and fire watcher during World War II and his surgical transition under Sir Harold Gillies while Dillon himself attended medical school. He details his worldwide travel as a ship’s surgeon in the British Merchant Navy with extensive commentary on his interactions with colonial and postcolonial subjects, followed by his “outing” by the British press while he was serving aboard The City of Bath. Out of the Ordinary is not only a salient record of an early sex transition but also a unique account of religious conversion in the mid–twentieth century. Dillon/Jivaka chronicles his gradual shift from Anglican Christianity to the esoteric spiritual systems of George Gurdjieff and Peter Ouspensky to Theravada and finally Mahayana Buddhism. He concludes his memoir with the contested circumstances of his Buddhist monastic ordination in India and Tibet. Ultimately, while Dillon/Jivaka died before becoming a monk, his novice ordination was significant: It made him the first white European man to be ordained in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Out of the Ordinary is a landmark publication that sets free a distinct voice from the history of the transgender movement.

It is a story, and an era, that few in the English-speaking world know anything about. Matt Fraser is just an ordinary guy…who happens to talk to dead people. Born into a psychic family, Matt carries on the legacy passed down from his late Grandmother Mary by connecting people to their dearly departed loved ones and delivering messages from the other side. His sold-out live group readings, television appearances, and private readings have allowed him to bring hope and healing to fans from around the world. But people who are not in the habit of talking with the dead have a hard time imagining what his day-to-day life is like. Based on the questions he gets, they seem to think he spends most of his time sitting cross-legged in a trance, maybe hovering a few inches off the ground, leaving his physical body behind as he journeys across the veil to the spirit realm. But it’s not like that at all. Now, in When Heaven Calls, Matt opens up about it’s really like to be a psychic medium—including how he discovered his spiritual gift, what it’s like to connect with souls on the other side, what communicating with the dead has taught him about embracing life, and how you can tap into your own intuitive awareness to manifest your dreams, goals, and desires.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Remarkable Life of U.S. Government Remote Viewer 001 Joseph McMoneagle is now known as the best Operational Remote Viewer in the history of the U.S. Army's Special Project-Stargate. His intelligence collection results have never been surpassed and rarely equaled. Among his achievements: He described the interior of a top-secret Soviet manufacturing plant and accurately predicted a new class of submarine under construction there. He sketched the location and described the thoughts of a kidnapped U.S. Army General being held by the Red Brigade in Northern Italy. Nearly a year in advance he accurately predicted when Skylab would leave orbit and where it would impact on the Earth's surface. After conventional reconnaissance failed, he and others were able to locate a downed Soviet bomber that had been carrying nuclear materials. He achieved these results using scientifically designed and tested double-blind protocols. And in the years since his retirement he has continued to demonstrate these abilities on camera for national television in three countries, in the lab at the famed Monroe Institute, and for private companies. Are his abilities a natural gift, or taught? Was it his largely unsuspected psychic ability that helped keep him alive in Vietnam, and aided in his invaluable contributions to the cold war effort, that made McMoneagle a first-class remote viewer? How much did he owe to his near-death experience in the 1970s? And why would he give up a safe and distinguished career as an advisor to the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command to become Remote Viewer 001? This is his story."

Book excerpt: The memoir Ordinary Days by the scholar and critic Leo Ou-fan Lee and his wife Esther Lee Yuk Ying brings to this Hong Kong series an intensely personal touch, consciously echoing the great sentimental memoir of the eighteenth century, Shen Fu's Six Chapters of a Floating Life. With disarming candour, Leo and Esther lay bare their hearts to share with us their story of love and suffering, charting in a series of memorable chapters their shared spiritual quest. Set partly against the recent backdrop of some of Hong Kong's most turbulent years, partly in the far-flung diaspora of the Chinese intelligentsia, this is a revealing record of the inner life of a highly cultivated modern Chinese couple.

Not content with his own mediumship he has, over many years, looked into the mediumship of past well-known mediums who have been accused of fraudulent acts despite a mountain of genuine evidence for their mediumship and has his observation in these pages. A very readable book.

This book was released on 2012-02-27 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Purpose in writing this Book: It is a gift to the countless children and young people who have lived with the fear of threatening ghosts they could not tell anyone about. Ghosts are frustrated souls terrified of the Judgment Day. They avoid the Light because of unresolved Karma and are drawn to the innocence of children for help. This is the story of my personal life guided by paranormal experiences. My childhood development was interrupted by sexual abuse when I was 6 years old. I was confused and desperate until “the Watcher” came to my rescue. I experienced fear and self-doubt growing up, but whenever evil cast a dark shadow across my path, he showed me many psychic gifts that served to protect me. Once I understood my paranormal experiences were gifts I could use, I was able to overcome my fear. I want to share this blessing with all who have suffered in silence. In The Psychic’s Guide to the Universe, you will find the answers you need. With all my Love, Betty Roschlau
