Book excerpt: THE MIND OF THE MELANATED ONE: THE SEQUEL "I believe everything in life happens for a reason by the way we see and react to things; when we surround ourselves with supportive or nonsupportive people, We are exposed to a positive or negative environment." Throughout this journey in this book, you will see the profound poem of what I've been through emotionally and what I feel daily. This side of me is very honest, passionate, introspective & vulnerable. Even through it all, I still put a smile on and remain militant because with God behind me every step of the way, I'm protected no matter what and know that a better day is coming.

Book excerpt: Beautiful, empowering, and exhilarating, Melanin Base Camp is a celebration of underrepresented BIPOC adventurers that will challenge you to rethink your perceptions of what an outdoorsy individual looks like and inspire you to being your own adventure. Danielle Williams, skydiver and founder of the online community Melanin Base Camp, profiles dozens of adventurers pushing the boundaries of inclusion and equity in the outdoors. These compelling narratives include a mother whose love of hiking led her to found a nonprofit to expose BIPOC children to the wonders of the outdoors and a mountain biker who, despite at first dealing with unwelcome glances and hostility on trails, went on to become a blogger who writes about justice and diversity in natural spaces. Also included is a guide to outdoor allyship that explores sometimes challenging topics to help all of us create a more inclusive community, whether you bike, climb, hike, or paddle. Join us as we work together to increase representation and opportunities for people of color in outdoor adventure sports.

"--Elle Varner A wise person once said that the problem with revenge is that it never evens the score; it ties both the injured and the injurer to an escalator of pain. Both are stuck on the escalator as long as parity is demanded, and the escalator never stops. Jahfar “Game” Gambino is the definition of humble and low-key. His main goal is to provide for his family while maintaining his lucrative career as a gaming creator. But even with his wealth and accomplishments, there is something that makes him toss and turn at night. Game has been going through his life harboring a hideous secret that could drive away the truest love that he has ever known. Misty Blue lost her innocence at the tender age of eleven when she when was brutally attacked and witnessed the slaying of her mother. Abandoned by her father, the man who promised that he would never leave, Misty was then bounced around different foster homes. Unfortunately, her bad hand didn’t stop there as she ended up succumbing to homelessness. Broken, empty, and simply tired of fighting, she meets the captivating Game. Although she has been let down by men all her life, she decides to take a chance on him hoping that she has outrun all of her bad days. Once their two worlds collide, they endure the many emotions of the non-stop escalator called love, and neither of them are willing to get off. In this cat and mouse tale of crazy love, unspoken truths and unremedied rue, Misty and Game are forced to confront one another’s pasts, learning that the old law about an eye for an eye almost always leaves everybody blind.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book traces the powerful discourses and embodied practices through which Black Caribbean women have been imagined and produced as subjects of British liberal rule and modern freedom. It argues that in seeking to escape liberalism’s gendered and racialised governmentalities, Black women’s everyday self-making practices construct decolonising and feminising epistemologies of freedom. These, in turn, repeatedly interrogate the colonial logics of liberalism and Britishness. Genealogically structured, the book begins with the narratives of freedom and identity presented by Black British Caribbean women. It then analyses critical moments of crisis in British racial rule at home and abroad in which gender and Caribbean women figure as points of concern. Post-war Caribbean immigration to the UK, decolonisation of the British Caribbean and the post-emancipation reconstruction of the British Caribbean loom large in these considerations. In doing all of this, the author unravels the colonial legacies that continue to underwrite contemporary British multicultural anxieties. This thought-provoking work will appeal to students and scholars of social and cultural history, politics, feminism, race and postcoloniality.
