Book Synopsis Nominalization Via Verbal Derivation by : Shimelis Mazengia
Download or read book Nominalization Via Verbal Derivation written by Shimelis Mazengia and published by Harrassowitz. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All languages are in a state of flux, and the viable ones employ various devices to introduce new words into their vocabularies. In the formation of new words and other expressions, noun formation or nominalization has pride of place over the other word-classes. Shimelis Mazengia describes and contrastively compares, in considerable detail, the mechanisms which three major Ethiopian languages use to satisfy their needs for nominals at word, phrasal and clausal levels - in other words, the operations utilized for lexical, phrasal, and clausal nominalizations. The languages in question are the Semitic languages Amharic and Tigrinya, and the Cushitic language Oromo. However, Amharic is sometimes considered to have undergone significant Cushitic influence and is therefore often assumed to be structurally intermediate between Semitic and Cushitic. The description and analyses take tone into account for Oromo, as tone is considered to have some bearing on the nominalization processes of the language. The author is a native speaker of Amharic and Oromo and is also well acquainted with Tigrinya. His competence in the languages has helped him to insightfully deal with the description and analysis of the languages with a wealth of data.

Download or read book Models of Journalism written by Peter Bro and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Models of Journalism investigates the most fundamental questions of how journalists can best serve the public and what factors enable or obstruct them in doing so. The book evaluates previous scholarly attempts at modeling the function and influencing factors of journalism, and proceeds to develop a range of important new models that take contemporary challenges faced by journalists and journalism into account. Among these new models is the "chronology-of-journalism", which introduces a new set of influencing factors that can affect journalists in the 21st century. These include internal factors – journalistic principles, precedents and practices – and external factors – journalistic production, publication and perception. Another new model, the "journalistic compass", delineates differences and similarities between some of the most important journalistic roles in the media landscape. For each new model, Peter Bro takes the actions and attitudes of individual journalists as its starting point. Models of Journalism combines practice and theory to outline and assess existing theoretical models alongside original ones. The book will be a useful tool for researchers, lecturers and practitioners who are engaged with the ever-evolving notions of what journalism is and who journalists are.

Baumans holistic study brings together the separate fields of folklore, anthropology, linguistics, and literary criticism as they focus on verbal art. The work represented here is a clear assembly of perspectives and methodology of these disciplines from the viewpoint of performanceartistic action and artistic event. The basic principles underlying sociolinguistics (patterned variability and context as revealed through language) provide the coherence. In addition to Baumans useful conceptual framework, four lively, informative essays by leading scholars are included that clarify, illustrate, and amplify in an effort to treat verbal art as performance.
