Book Synopsis The Cambridge Companion to Modern Spanish Culture by : David T. Gies
Download or read book The Cambridge Companion to Modern Spanish Culture written by David T. Gies and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-02-25 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive account of modern Spanish culture, tracing its dramatic and often unexpected development from its beginnings after the Revolution of 1868 to the present day. Specially-commissioned essays by leading experts provide analyses of the historical and political background of modern Spain, the culture of the major autonomous regions (notably Castile, Catalonia, and the Basque Country), and the country's literature: narrative, poetry, theatre and the essay. Spain's recent development is divided into three main phases: from 1868 to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War; the period of the dictatorship of Francisco Franco; and the post-Franco arrival of democracy. The concept of 'Spanish culture' is investigated, and there are studies of Spanish painting and sculpture, architecture, cinema, dance, music, and the modern media. A chronology and guides to further reading are provided, making the volume an invaluable introduction to the politics, literature and culture of modern Spain.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Promoting Social Justice for Immigrants and Refugees Through Active Citizenship and Intercultural Education by : Barreto, Isabel María Gómez
Download or read book Handbook of Research on Promoting Social Justice for Immigrants and Refugees Through Active Citizenship and Intercultural Education written by Barreto, Isabel María Gómez and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-06-11 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Migration movements have been a constant in the societies of the past, as well as in postmodern society. However, in the past ten years, the increase in political, economic, and religious conflict amongst nations; the increase of the poverty index; and many and various natural disasters have duplicated the forced displacement of millions of people across the seven continents of the planet. This situation brings important challenges in terms of the vulnerability, inequity, and discrimination that certain peoples suffer. Professionals from the fields of the social sciences, education, psychology, and international law share the fact that education represents an opportunity for children and young migrants to become members with full rights in the societies they arrive in. Empirical studies show that that the implementation of the right to education for migrants presents some challenges and dilemmas to the governments of host countries and more specifically to the education centers, NGOs, universities, and the professionals working in them, hence the need for more research on these issues of immigration, refugees, social justice, and intercultural education. The Handbook of Research on Promoting Social Justice for Immigrants and Refugees Through Active Citizenship and Intercultural Education provides visibility to issues such as the increase in migration and displacement and the difficulties in political agreements, educational contexts, and in cultural issues, stigmatization, vulnerability, social exclusion, racism, and hatred amongst host communities. This book gives possible solutions to this current complex situation and helps foster and promote sensitivity, perspective, and critical thinking for a respectful and tolerant coexistence and promotion of equity and social justice. The chapters promote cultural diversity and inclusion in classrooms by offering knowledge, strategies, and research on organizational development for educational institutions and multicultural environments. This book is essential for administrators, policymakers, leaders, teachers, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the promotion of social justice in education for immigrants and refugees.

Case studies exploring media coverage of migrants and refugees in Europe enable the reader to better understand the complexity of the process through a range of unique and unexplored dimensions of immigration analysis, including strategic framing theory, game structure analysis, migration maps and routes, television narratives, rumour-based communication, and state-bred campaigns. The insights into the perspective of migrants, the general public and policy makers provide innovative methodological and theoretical analysis on population movements which will be of interest to scholars, students, and policy makers working in the fields of migration studies, international relations, peace and security studies, and social and public policy.

Gramática española: Variación social introduces key grammatical concepts in the Spanish language to intermediate and advanced level learners in a way that emphasizes the connections between the social and the linguistic. This second edition offers several new grammar points and suggestions for further reading. A brand-new component of this edition is its accompanying website featuring extensive activities and exercises covering all the main topics in the textbook. The website also provides comprehensive practice with grammatical structures. Written in Spanish, the textbook offers a review of Spanish grammar by presenting documented variants of linguistic features in the speech of Spanish speakers and underlining the sociohistorical reasons why some varieties come to be considered prestigious while others are not. Using naturally occurring speech from data in research corpora, Gramática española examines multiple grammatical features that vary depending on factors such as place, social group, and situation. Students are introduced to specialized terminology that gives them the ability to identify categories and grammatical constructions, providing them with an in-depth understanding of how sociolinguistic factors influence Spanish grammar. This unique textbook is designed for students at level B1 or higher on the Common European Framework for Languages, and Intermediate High to Advanced High on the ACTFL proficiency scale.

Download or read book Historia de la Comunicación Social del Ecuador: prensa, radio, televisión y cibermedios (1792-2013) written by María Luján González Portela and published by Dykinson. This book was released on 2021-07-23 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Crisis del sistema, crisis del periodismo written by Ramón Reig and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2015-03 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ¿Crisis del periodismo? Claro.

Book Synopsis The Power of Entrepreneurs by : Mercedes Cabrera
Download or read book The Power of Entrepreneurs written by Mercedes Cabrera and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Spain is an important member of the EU, relatively little is known about its economy and its interrelationship with political forces. This book, the first of its kind, offers a long-term view and analyzes this ever-changing relationship throughout the 20th century with its various upheavals such as the crisis of the democratic republic and the civil war in the 1930s, the long General Franco dictatorship from the 1940s until the 1970s and the subsequent transition to democracy. From the detailed studies of individual cases, specific companies as well as entrepreneurial organizations, a very diverse picture emerges, contradicting widespread simplistic interpretations of politico-economic linkages, which demonstrates both the pluralism of the economic interests as well as the complexity of their relationship to the political class.
