Such witnesses are never prominent members of the profession. But whenever such testimony is given, which is inﬂuenced by the dollars received from one side or the other, a reﬂection of a discreditable character is cast upon the entire profession to which such witnesses belong. The com ments of the newspapers - their jokes in their funny columns - te garding the matter do not merely reflect on the individual physicians who permit themselves to be placed in an equivocal position, but on all other physicians in the community. Physicians are human, but not more than one in a hundred will be influenced in his testimony a hair's breadth by the fact that he receives fees for his services from one side or the other.
