Book Synopsis A Monographic Study and Atlas of Late Cretaceous Planktic Foraminifera, Part I by : M. Dan Georgescu
Download or read book A Monographic Study and Atlas of Late Cretaceous Planktic Foraminifera, Part I written by M. Dan Georgescu and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-08-20 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the opening volume of a series that represents the first modern, extensive study of the planktic foraminifera of the Late Cretaceous Age. This group of microscopical single-celled protistans are the most used in the biostratigraphy of the Upper Cretaceous successions, and, from this perspective, this book is of paramount importance for specialists in oil industry and academia. This first volume is dedicated to one iconic group of planktics, the globotruncanids. It describes 61 species that are grouped into thirteen genera, illustrating them with high-quality photographs that emphasize the spectacular morphology of this foraminiferal group. With emphasis on the test ultrastructures and high-detail morphological characters in concert with the features pertaining of the general test architecture, this work provides the most comprehensive perspective on this group of foraminifera. The work will provide specialists and students with a wealth of ready-to-use data in a wide array of applications, from biostratigraphy to evolution.

Book Synopsis Geology of Coal Deposits of South Limburg, The Netherlands by : J.H.L. Voncken
Download or read book Geology of Coal Deposits of South Limburg, The Netherlands written by J.H.L. Voncken and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an up-to-date overview of the coal deposits of South Limburg (Netherlands), the Aachen area (Germany), and the Campine area (Belgium). Although the amount of available literature on these coal deposits is quite vast, the majority of the texts date back to the mid-twentieth century, and most publications focus more on the stratigraphy of the coal layers and the rank of the coal. Moreover, the concept of continental drift is largely ignored in these publications. In addition to providing updated information, this book also discusses coal mining in these regions; the formation and petrography of coal; and the geological evolution of Western Europe/the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. In order to explain the tropical nature of the flora in the Carboniferous period, paleogeographic aspects are also taken into account.

Book Synopsis Ammonoid Paleobiology: From macroevolution to paleogeography by : Christian Klug
Download or read book Ammonoid Paleobiology: From macroevolution to paleogeography written by Christian Klug and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-22 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume work is a testament to the abiding interest and human fascination with ammonites. We offer a new model to explain the morphogenesis of septa and the shell, we explore their habitats by the content of stable isotopes in their shells, we discuss the origin and later evolution of this important clade, and we deliver hypotheses on its demise. The Ammonoidea produced a great number of species that can be used in biostratigraphy and possibly, this is the macrofossil group, which has been used the most for that purpose. Nevertheless, many aspects of their anatomy, mode of life, development or paleobiogeographic distribution are still poorly known. Themes treated are biostratigraphy, paleoecology, paleoenvironment, paleobiogeography, evolution, phylogeny, and ontogeny. Advances such as an explosion of new information about ammonites, new technologies such as isotopic analysis, tomography and virtual paleontology in general, as well as continuous discovery of new fossil finds have given us the opportunity to present a comprehensive and timely "state of the art" compilation. Moreover, it also points the way for future studies to further enhance our understanding of this endlessly fascinating group of organisms.

This book was released on 2011-01-07 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to the memory of the Dutch carcinologist Lipke Bijdeley Holthuis (1921-2008) who dedicated his life to the taxonomy and systematics of Crustacea. His scientific career started in 1941 with his first publications and continued for 68 years in which he produced over 600 titles totalling almost 13000 pages describing more than 400 taxa new to science. In this volume his friends and colleagues pay tribute to his legacy. Included are an extensive biography and over 50 papers mainly dealing with systematic and taxonomic issues, which emanate from his knowledge and inspiration.
Book Synopsis Atlas of Benthic Foraminifera by : Ann Holbourn
Download or read book Atlas of Benthic Foraminifera written by Ann Holbourn and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-03 with total page 1115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An up-to-date atlas of an important fossil and living group, with the Natural History Museum. Deep-sea benthic foraminifera have played a central role in biostratigraphic, paleoecological, and paleoceanographical research for over a century. These single–celled marine protists are important because of their geographic ubiquity, distinction morphologies and rapid evolutionary rates, their abundance and diversity deep–sea sediments, and because of their utility as indicators of environmental conditions both at and below the sediment–water interface. In addition, stable isotopic data obtained from deep–sea benthic foraminiferal tests provide paleoceanographers with environmental information that is proving to be of major significance in studies of global climatic change. This work collects together, for the first time, new morphological descriptions, taxonomic placements, stratigraphic occurrence data, geographical distribution summaries, and palaeoecological information, along with state-of-the-art colour photomicrographs (most taken in reflected light, just as you would see them using light microscopy), of 300 common deep-sea benthic foraminifera species spanning the interval from Jurassic - Recent. This volume is intended as a reference and research resource for post-graduate students in micropalaeontology, geological professionals (stratigraphers, paleontologists, paleoecologists, palaeoceanographers), taxonomists, and evolutionary (paleo)biologists.
