Download or read book Radiation Dosimetry Instrumentation and Methods (2001) written by Gad Shani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation dosimetry has made great progress in the last decade, mainly because radiation therapy is much more widely used. Since the first edition, many new developments have been made in the basic methods for dosimetry, i.e. ionization chambers, TLD, chemical dosimeters, and photographic films. Radiation Dosimetry: Instrumentation and Methods, Second Edition brings to the reader these latest developments. Written at a high level for medical physicists, engineers, and advanced dosimetrists, it concentrates only on evolvement during the last decade, relying on the first edition to provide the basics.

Book Synopsis Cancer Neutron Capture Therapy by : Y. Mishima
Download or read book Cancer Neutron Capture Therapy written by Y. Mishima and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-05-17 with total page 920 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many human cancers which actively synthesize specific characteristic proteins such as melanomas, thyroid cancer and squamous cell carcinoma. Many cancer researchers have of course tried to utilize this specific activity as a key for the selective treatment of cancers. In the past for example, the molecular hybrid compound of DOPA, a substrate of melanin, and nitrogen mustard N-oxide hydrochloride, a ctyotoxic anti-tumor drug, was synthesized as Melphalan and used to treat malignant melanoma. A major problem arose though in that it was soon found to be highly suppressive toward bone marrow and quite toxic while not being remarkably effective. Thus, malignant melanoma could not be cured by it. Such failure led us to develop a novel bimodal therapeutic system which includes the use of non-toxic potentially cytocidal chemicals which selectively accumulate within the cancer cells and which are converted by a controllable modality into an actively cytocidal element in situ. We can now non-surgically cure malignant melanoma and glioblastoma with our selective cancer treatment, neutron capture therapy (NCT); as can be found in this volume. Included are 124 papers on the latest breaking developments discussed at the Sixth International Symposium on NCT for Cancer held in Kobe during the late autumn of 1994.

Download or read book Radiation Detection and Measurement written by Glenn F. Knoll and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-08-16 with total page 857 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Known for its comprehensive coverage and up-to-date literature citations, this classic text provides students and instructors with the most complete coverage available of radiation detection and measurement. Over the decade that has passed since the publication of the 3rd edition, technical developments continue to enhance the instruments and techniques available for the detection and spectroscopy of ionizing radiation. The Fourth Edition of this invaluable resource incorporates the latest developments and cutting-edge technologies to make this the most up-to-date guide to the field available: ? Covers many new materials that are emerging as scintillators that can achieve energy resolution that is better by a factor of two compared with traditional materials ? Presents new material on ROC curves, micropattern gas detectors, new sensors for scintillation light, thick film semiconductors, and digital techniques in detector pulse processing ? Includes updated discussions on TLDs, neutron detectors, cryogenic spectrometers, radiation backgrounds, and the VME instrumentation standard
Book Synopsis Ionizing RadiationProtection and Dosimetry by : Guy Paic
Download or read book Ionizing RadiationProtection and Dosimetry written by Guy Paic and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-01-31 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guidebook explores the basics of the interaction of radiation with matter both from the physical and chemical aspects and the relation to biological effects. Calculations of absorbed doses and dose equivalent and ways to minimize exposure and optimization of radiation protection in light of the latest international recommenda-tions are discussed and examples are shown. Frequently used dosimeters, radiation detectors with an emphasis on TL and chemi-cal dosimeters and the dosimetry of fast neutron beams with spe-cial attention to medical uses in neutron therapy are discussed. The latest data on exposure resulting from natural and man-made sources in the environment is also covered.
