Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Turbomachines by : Erik Dick
Download or read book Fundamentals of Turbomachines written by Erik Dick and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-09 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the working principles of all kinds of turbomachines. The same theoretical framework is used to analyse the different machine types. Fundamentals are first presented and theoretical concepts are then elaborated for particular machine types, starting with the simplest ones. For each machine type, the author strikes a balance between building basic understanding and exploring knowledge of practical aspects. Readers are invited through challenging exercises to consider how the theory applies to particular cases and how it can be generalised. The book is primarily meant as a course book. It teaches fundamentals and explores applications. It will appeal to senior undergraduate and graduate students in mechanical engineering and to professional engineers seeking to understand the operation of turbomachines. Readers will gain a fundamental understanding of turbomachines. They will also be able to make a reasoned choice of turbomachine for a particular application and to understand its operation. Basic design of the simplest turbomachines as a centrifugal fan, an axial steam turbine or a centrifugal pump, is also possible using the topics covered in the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Turbomachinery Flow: Forward Curved Centrifugal Fans explores the forward curved squirrel cage fan as an excellent instrument for fluid mechanics research in turbomachines. The book explores phenomena such as jet/wake interaction, circulation, separation and noise in turbomachines, also addressing the characteristics that are specific to this fan and applications in other centrifugal turbomachines. Chapters begin with a general introduction that includes research techniques and a survey of older research, and then proceed into a detailed description of improvements for different parts of the fan, including the inlet, the rotor and the volute. Final sections include a comprehensive discussion on geometrical modifications that could improve performance without impacting cost. - Explores how forward curved centrifugal fans have wide industrial application - Discusses the strong trade-off between fan aerodynamics and construction cost - Provides a wide selection of optimums for geometrical configuration - Introduces new geometries that can improve performance and reduce noise for the same construction cost - Presents fluid phenomena as a potential research field for this fan

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes the rotordynamic considerations that are important to the successful design or troubleshooting of a turbomachine. Shows how bearing design, fluid seals, and rotor geometry affect rotordynamic behavior (vibration, shaft whirling, bearing loads, and critical speeds), and describes two successful computational methods for rotordynamic analysis in terms that can be understood by practicing engineers. Gives descriptive accounts of the state of the art in several areas of the field and presents important mathematical or computational concepts, describing equations and formulas in physical terms for better understanding. Also offers tips for troubleshooting unstable machines and provides practical interpretations of vibration measurements.

Download or read book Rotating Machinery written by Getu Hailu and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-01-08 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rotating machinery or turbomachinery is a machine with a rotating component that transfers energy to a fluid or vice versa. Rotating machines are one of the most widely used machines. They are used in everyday life, at least once a day. We find a turbomachine (fan) in a hair dryer and in a computer. We find a turbomachine (pump) in a refrigerator. Other commonly used household machines are clothes washers and dish washers. These machines need to drain the dirty water and replace with clean water. To do so an important component of these machines is a pump that is used to remove the dirty water. A water pump (hydrodynamic pump) is also essential to our car?s operation by maintaining an optimum operating temperature of the engine. The pump ensures that the coolant keeps circulating through the engine block, hoses and radiator, and maintains an optimum operating temperature. Turbomachines are also key machines used in power generation, fluid transportation, the processing industry and energy conversion. This book presents recent developments in improving the aero-thermal performance and the efficiencies of rotating machines.

Download or read book Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery written by Naixing Chen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-23 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is now an essential and effective tool used in the design of all types of turbomachine, and this topic constitutes the main theme of this book. With over 50 years of experience in the field of aerodynamics, Professor Naixing Chen has developed a wide range of numerical methods covering almost the entire spectrum of turbomachinery applications. Moreover, he has also made significant contributions to practical experiments and real-life designs. The book focuses on rigorous mathematical derivation of the equations governing flow and detailed descriptions of the numerical methods used to solve the equations. Numerous applications of the methods to different types of turbomachine are given and, in many cases, the numerical results are compared to experimental measurements. These comparisons illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of the methods – a useful guide for readers. Lessons for the design of improved blading are also indicated after many applications. Presents real-world perspective to the past, present and future concern in turbomachinery Covers direct and inverse solutions with theoretical and practical aspects Demonstrates huge application background in China Supplementary instructional materials are available on the companion website Aerothermodynamics of Turbomachinery: Analysis and Design is ideal for senior undergraduates and graduates studying in the fields of mechanics, energy and power, and aerospace engineering; design engineers in the business of manufacturing compressors, steam and gas turbines; and research engineers and scientists working in the areas of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and heat transfer.
