Book Synopsis The Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon by : Fred Jegerlehner
Download or read book The Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon written by Fred Jegerlehner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the present state of knowledge of the anomalous magnetic moment a=(g-2)/2 of the muon. The muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most precisely measured quantities in elementary particle physics and provides one of the most stringent tests of relativistic quantum field theory as a fundamental theoretical framework. It allows for an extremely precise check of the standard model of elementary particles and of its limitations.
Book Synopsis Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy of Delafossite Metals by : Veronika Sunko
Download or read book Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy of Delafossite Metals written by Veronika Sunko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-10-08 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes the results of angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiments on delafossite oxide metals, and theoretical work explaining these observations. The study was motivated by the extraordinarily high conductivity of the non-magnetic delafossites PdCoO2 and PtCoO2, the measurement of whose electronic structure is reported and discussed. Two unexpected effects were observed in the course of the investigation; each is described and analysed in detail. Firstly, a previously unrecognised type of spectroscopic signal, allowing the non-magnetic probe of photoemission to become sensitive to spin-spin correlations, was observed in the antiferromagnetic PdCrO2. Its origin was identified as the Kondo-like coupling of itinerant and Mott insulating electrons. Furthermore, surface states exhibiting an unusually large Rashba-like spin-splitting were observed on the transition metal terminated surfaces of delafossites. The large inversion symmetry breaking energy scale, a consequence of the unusual structure of the surface layer, is identified as the origin of the effect.

Book Synopsis Fourier Analysis and Applications by : Claude Gasquet
Download or read book Fourier Analysis and Applications written by Claude Gasquet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this book is two-fold -- on the one hand it conveys to mathematical readers a rigorous presentation and exploration of the important applications of analysis leading to numerical calculations. On the other hand, it presents physics readers with a body of theory in which the well-known formulae find their justification. The basic study of fundamental notions, such as Lebesgue integration and theory of distribution, allow the establishment of the following areas: Fourier analysis and convolution Filters and signal analysis time-frequency analysis (gabor transforms and wavelets). The whole is rounded off with a large number of exercises as well as selected worked-out solutions.

This book was released on 2018-12-27 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has recently been more successful than al Qaeda in gaining U.S. terrorist recruits. The authors undertake a demographic profile of individuals drawn to foreign terrorist organizations and find that the affiliates average terrorists recruited by ISIL is younger, less educated, and more likely to be African American/black or Caucasian/white and a U.S.-born citizen.

Book Synopsis Artificial General Intelligence by : Ben Goertzel
Download or read book Artificial General Intelligence written by Ben Goertzel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-01-17 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Only a small community has concentratedon general intelligence. No one has tried to make a thinking machine . . . The bottom line is that we really haven’t progressed too far toward a truly intelligent machine. We have collections of dumb specialists in small domains; the true majesty of general intelligence still awaits our attack. . . . We have got to get back to the deepest questions of AI and general intelligence. . . ” –MarvinMinsky as interviewed in Hal’s Legacy, edited by David Stork, 2000. Our goal in creating this edited volume has been to ?ll an apparent gap in the scienti?c literature, by providing a coherent presentation of a body of contemporary research that, in spite of its integral importance, has hitherto kept a very low pro?le within the scienti?c and intellectual community. This body of work has not been given a name before; in this book we christen it “Arti?cial General Intelligence” (AGI). What distinguishes AGI work from run-of-the-mill “arti?cial intelligence” research is that it is explicitly focused on engineering general intelligence in the short term. We have been active researchers in the AGI ?eld for many years, and it has been a pleasure to gather together papers from our colleagues working on related ideas from their own perspectives. In the Introduction we give a conceptual overview of the AGI ?eld, and also summarize and interrelate the key ideas of the papers in the subsequent chapters.
Book Synopsis Afro-Hispanic Linguistic Remnants in Mexico by : Norma Rosas Mayén
Download or read book Afro-Hispanic Linguistic Remnants in Mexico written by Norma Rosas Mayén and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decades, the study of Afro-Spanish varieties that developed during the Colonial period in the Americas has seduced many scholars. The analysis of these Afro-Hispanic speech patterns is crucial to determine their creolized or non-creolized status, as well as to understand the scarcity of the Spanish-based creoles in the Americas. The present study contributes to this linguistic field by analyzing the current speech of the Afro-Mexicans of the Costa Chica region, one of the largest Afro-Mexican enclaves, while proposing a Rhizomatic Linguistic Model to interpret data derived from contact situations. This investigation not only accounts for the Afro-Hispanic linguistic remnants of this Spanish variety, but also examines the current linguistic characteristics and sociolinguistic status of this speech area on the brink of extinction. In addition, this book advocates on behalf of those Costa Chica Afro-Mexican communities that have been stigmatized and customarily ignored in Mexico's nation-state politics.
