This book was released on 2005 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decays of B{sup 0} mesons to hadronic final states remains a rich area of physics on BaBar. Not only do the c{bar c}-K final states (e.g. B{sup 0} {yields} {psi}(2S)K{sup 0}) allow for the measurement of CP Violation, but the branching fractions provide a sensitive test of the theoretical methods used to account for low energy non-perturbative QCD effects. They present the measurement of the branching fraction for the decay B{sup 0} {yields} {psi}(2S)K{sub s}. The data set consists of 88.8 {+-} 1.0 x 10{sup 6} B{bar b} pairs collected on the e{sup +}e{sup -} {yields} {Upsilon}(4S) resonance on BaBar/PEP-II at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). This analysis features a modification of present cuts, with respect to those published so far on BaBar, on the K{sub S} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and {psi}(2S) {yields} J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} which aim at reducing the background while keeping the signal intact. Various data selection criteria are studied for the lepton modes (e{sup +}e{sup -} and {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -}) of the J/{psi} and {psi}(2S) to improve signal purity as well as study the stability of the resultant branching fractions.

Book excerpt: The authors measure the branching fractions of the [psi](2S) meson to the leptonic final states e[sup +]e[sup -] and [mu][sup +][mu][sup -] relative to that for [psi](2S) [yields] J/[psi] [pi][sup +][pi][sup -]. The method uses [psi](2S) mesons produced in the decay of B mesons at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance in a data sample collected with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Using previous measurements for the [psi](2S) [yields] J/[psi] [pi][sup +][pi][sup -] branching fraction, they determine the e[sup +]e[sup -] and [mu][sup +][mu][sup -] branching fractions to be 0.0078 [+-] 0.0009 [+-] 0.0008 and 0.0067 [+-] 0.0008 [+-] 0.0007 respectively.

Book Synopsis Recent Results from the BaBar Experiment by :
Download or read book Recent Results from the BaBar Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present an overview of some of the most recent results from the BABAR experiment. They discuss the latest measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates, that in the Standard Model (SM) is proportional to sin 2?. They present measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to two-body final states of charged pions and kaons, that are related to the angle? of the Unitarity Triangle. They also report the B° lifetime measurement obtained from studying the B° 2!D*−? and B° 2!D*−?+ decay channels and the B° 2!D*− a1+ branching fraction, obtained using a partial reconstruction technique. These measurements serve as a test and validation of the procedures required to measure the combination of CKM Unitarity Triangle angles sin(2? +?).

This book was released on 2009 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the B° → {bar ?}p?− branching fraction performed using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric e+e− collider. Based on a sample of 467 x 106 B{bar B} pairs we measure ?(B° → {bar ?}p?−) [3.07 ± 0.31(stat.) ± 0.23(syst.)] x 10−6. The measured differential spectrum as a function of the dibaryon invariant mass m({bar ?}p) shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays. We study the {bar ?} polarization as a function of {bar ?} energy in the B° rest frame (E*{sub {bar ?}}) and compare it with theoretical expectations of fully longitudinally right-polarized {bar ?} at large E*{sub {bar ?}}.

Book Synopsis The Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon by : Fred Jegerlehner
Download or read book The Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon written by Fred Jegerlehner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the present state of knowledge of the anomalous magnetic moment a=(g-2)/2 of the muon. The muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most precisely measured quantities in elementary particle physics and provides one of the most stringent tests of relativistic quantum field theory as a fundamental theoretical framework. It allows for an extremely precise check of the standard model of elementary particles and of its limitations.
Download or read book BaBar Physics Book written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of a year-long workshop devoted to a review of the physics opportunities of the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B Factory, at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center laboratory. The workshop brought together a number of theorists with experimentalists from the BABAR Collaboration. Each chapter represents the contribution of a working group and presents both a theoretical summary of the relevant topics and the results of related simulation studies. The working group convenors, listed below, were teams that included both theorists and experimentalists. The book represents the status of work around the beginning of 1998. Both the state of the theory and of the experiment's simulation and analysis tools continue to advance. The results presented here are thus not a final view of what the experiment can achieve, but represent an interim study. The studies are more detailed and comprehensive than those made at the time of the Technical Design Report, but still lack many features that will be needed for the real data analysis. The book is intended as a guide to the work that still needs to be done, and as a detailed introduction which will assist new members, joining the Collaboration, and, we hope, other researchers in the field.
Book Synopsis Physics at the Large Hadron Collider by : Amitava Datta
Download or read book Physics at the Large Hadron Collider written by Amitava Datta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-30 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an epoch when particle physics is awaiting a major step forward, the Large Hydron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva will soon be operational. It will collide a beam of high energy protons with another similar beam circulation in the same 27 km tunnel but in the opposite direction, resulting in the production of many elementary particles some never created in the laboratory before. It is widely expected that the LHC will discover the Higgs boson, the particle which supposedly lends masses to all other fundamental particles. In addition, the question as to whether there is some new law of physics at such high energy is likely to be answered through this experiment. The present volume contains a collection of articles written by international experts, both theoreticians and experimentalists, from India and abroad, which aims to acquaint a non-specialist with some basic issues related to the LHC. At the same time, it is expected to be a useful, rudimentary companion of introductory exposition and technical expertise alike, and it is hoped to become unique in its kind. The fact that there is substantial Indian involvement in the entire LHC endeavour, at all levels including fabrication, physics analysis procedures as well as theoretical studies, is also amply brought out in the collection.
