Book Synopsis The Mathematical Sciences in 2025 by : National Research Council
Download or read book The Mathematical Sciences in 2025 written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-06-13 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical sciences are part of nearly all aspects of everyday life-the discipline has underpinned such beneficial modern capabilities as Internet search, medical imaging, computer animation, numerical weather predictions, and all types of digital communications. The Mathematical Sciences in 2025 examines the current state of the mathematical sciences and explores the changes needed for the discipline to be in a strong position and able to maximize its contribution to the nation in 2025. It finds the vitality of the discipline excellent and that it contributes in expanding ways to most areas of science and engineering, as well as to the nation as a whole, and recommends that training for future generations of mathematical scientists should be re-assessed in light of the increasingly cross-disciplinary nature of the mathematical sciences. In addition, because of the valuable interplay between ideas and people from all parts of the mathematical sciences, the report emphasizes that universities and the government need to continue to invest in the full spectrum of the mathematical sciences in order for the whole enterprise to continue to flourish long-term.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Sciences with Multidisciplinary Applications by : Bourama Toni
Download or read book Mathematical Sciences with Multidisciplinary Applications written by Bourama Toni and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the fourth in a multidisciplinary series which brings together leading researchers in the STEAM-H disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, Mathematics and Health) to present their perspective on advances in their own specific fields, and to generate a genuinely interdisciplinary collaboration that transcends parochial subject-matter boundaries. All contributions are carefully edited, peer-reviewed, reasonably self-contained, and pedagogically crafted for a multidisciplinary readership. Contributions are drawn from a variety of fields including mathematics, statistics, game theory and behavioral sciences, biomathematics and physical chemistry, computer science and human-centered computing. This volume is dedicated to Professor Christiane Rousseau, whose work inspires the STEAM-H series, in recognition of her passion for the mathematical sciences and her on-going initiative, the Mathematics of Planet Earth paradigm of interdisciplinarity. The volume's primary goal is to enhance interdisciplinary understanding between these areas of research by showing how new advances in a particular field can be relevant to open problems in another and how many disciplines contribute to a better understanding of relevant issues at the interface of mathematics and the sciences. The main emphasis is on important methods, research directions and applications of analysis within and beyond each field. As such, the volume aims to foster student interest and participation in the STEAM-H domain, as well as promote interdisciplinary research collaborations. The volume is valuable as a reference of choice and a source of inspiration for a broad spectrum of scientists, mathematicians, research students and postdoctoral fellows.
Book Synopsis Nonlinear Phenomena in Mathematical Sciences by : V. Lakshmikantham
Download or read book Nonlinear Phenomena in Mathematical Sciences written by V. Lakshmikantham and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 1062 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Phenomena in Mathematical Sciences contains the proceedings of an International Conference on Nonlinear Phenomena in Mathematical Sciences, held at the University of Texas at Arlington, on June 16-20,1980. The papers explore trends in nonlinear phenomena in mathematical sciences, with emphasis on nonlinear functional analytic methods and their applications; nonlinear wave theory; and applications to medical and life sciences. In the area of nonlinear functional analytic methods and their applications, the following subjects are discussed: optimal control theory; periodic oscillations of nonlinear mechanical systems; Leray-Schauder degree theory; differential inequalities applied to parabolic and elliptic partial differential equations; bifurcation theory, stability theory in analytical mechanics; singular and ordinary boundary value problems, etc. The following topics in nonlinear wave theory are considered: nonlinear wave propagation in a randomly homogeneous media; periodic solutions of a semilinear wave equation; asymptotic behavior of solutions of strongly damped nonlinear wave equations; shock waves and dissipation theoretical methods for a nonlinear Schr?dinger equation; and nonlinear hyperbolic Volterra equations occurring in viscoelasticity. Applications to medical and life sciences include mathematical modeling in physiology, pharmacokinetics, and neuro-mathematics, along with epidemic modeling and parameter estimation techniques. This book will be helpful to students, practitioners, and researchers in the field of mathematics.

Book Synopsis Recent Developments in Mathematical, Statistical and Computational Sciences by : D. Marc Kilgour
Download or read book Recent Developments in Mathematical, Statistical and Computational Sciences written by D. Marc Kilgour and published by Springer. This book was released on 2022-08-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes an up-to-date account of principles, methods, and tools for mathematical and statistical modelling in a wide range of research fields, including medicine, health sciences, biology, environmental science, engineering, physics, chemistry, computation, finance, economics, and social sciences. It presents original solutions to real-world problems, emphasizes the coordinated development of theories and applications, and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among mathematicians, statisticians, and researchers in other disciplines. Based on a highly successful meeting, the International Conference on Applied Mathematics, Modeling and Computational Science, AMMCS 2019, held from August 18 to 23, 2019, on the main campus of Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Canada, the contributions are the results of submissions from the conference participants. They provide readers with a broader view of the methods, ideas and tools used in mathematical, statistical and computational sciences.
Book Synopsis Problems from Murray Klamkin by : Murray S. Klamkin
Download or read book Problems from Murray Klamkin written by Murray S. Klamkin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009-04-02 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When one thinks of mathematical problems posed over the past 30 years, one name automatically leaps to the fore - Murray Klamkin. In this book Andy Liu and Bruce Shawyer present problems that he proposed over his career. It contains the 'quickies' (problems with quick and neat solutions) he proposed in 'Crux Mathematicorum,' his longer problems, and also problems which were posed in tribute to him after he died. Solutions are provided in the second half of the book.
