Download or read book Cluster Sets written by Kiyoshi Noshiro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first systematic investigations of the theory of cluster sets of analytic functions, we are indebted to IVERSEN [1-3J and GROSS [1-3J about forty years ago. Subsequent important contributions before 1940 were made by SEIDEL [1-2J, DOOE [1-4J, CARTWRIGHT [1-3J and BEURLING [1]. The investigations of SEIDEL and BEURLING gave great impetus and interest to Japanese mathematicians; beginning about 1940 some contributions were made to the theory by KUNUGUI [1-3J, IRIE [IJ, TOKI [IJ, TUMURA [1-2J, KAMETANI [1-4J, TsuJI [4J and NOSHIRO [1-4J. Recently, many noteworthy advances have been made by BAGEMIHL, SEIDEL, COLLINGWOOD, CARTWRIGHT, HERVE, LEHTO, LOHWATER, MEIER, OHTSUKA and many other mathematicians. The main purpose of this small book is to give a systematic account on the theory of cluster sets. Chapter I is devoted to some definitions and preliminary discussions. In Chapter II, we treat extensions of classical results on cluster sets to the case of single-valued analytic functions in a general plane domain whose boundary contains a compact set of essential singularities of capacity zero; it is well-known that HALLSTROM [2J and TsuJI [7J extended independently Nevanlinna's theory of meromorphic functions to the case of a compact set of essential singUlarities of logarithmic capacity zero. Here, Ahlfors' theory of covering surfaces plays a funda mental role. Chapter III "is concerned with functions meromorphic in the unit circle.

Book Synopsis Studies in Topology by : Nick M. Stavrakas
Download or read book Studies in Topology written by Nick M. Stavrakas and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies in Topology is a compendium of papers dealing with a broad portion of the topological spectrum, such as in shape theory and in infinite dimensional topology. One paper discusses an approach to proper shape theory modeled on the "ANR-systems" of Mardesic-Segal, on the "mutations" of Fox, or on the "shapings" of Mardesic. Some papers discuss homotopy and cohomology groups in shape theory, the structure of superspace, on o-semimetrizable spaces, as well as connected sets that have one or more disconnection properties. One paper examines "weak" compactness, considered as either a strengthening of absolute closure or a weakening of relative compactness (subject to entire topological spaces or to subspaces of larger spaces). To construct spaces that have only weak properties, the investigator can use the various productivity theorems of Scarborough and Stone, Saks and Stephenson, Frolik, Booth, and Hechler. Another paper analyzes the relationship between "normal Moore space conjecture" and productivity of normality in Moore spaces. The compendium is suitable for mathematicians, physicists, engineers, and other professionals involved in topology, set theory, linear spaces, or cartography.
Book Synopsis Logical Studies of Paraconsistent Reasoning in Science and Mathematics by : Holger Andreas
Download or read book Logical Studies of Paraconsistent Reasoning in Science and Mathematics written by Holger Andreas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-02 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers work written by leading scholars from different schools within the research area of paraconsistency. The authors critically investigate how contemporary paraconsistent logics can be used to better understand human reasoning in science and mathematics. Offering a variety of perspectives, they shed a new light on the question of whether paraconsistent logics can function as the underlying logics of inconsistent but useful scientific and mathematical theories. The great variety of paraconsistent logics gives rise to various, interrelated questions, such as what are the desiderata a paraconsistent logic should satisfy, is there prospect of a universal approach to paraconsistent reasoning with axiomatic theories, and to what extent is reasoning about sets structurally analogous to reasoning about truth. Furthermore, the authors consider paraconsistent logic’s status as either a normative or descriptive discipline (or one which falls in between) and which inconsistent but non-trivial axiomatic theories are well understood by which types of paraconsistent approaches. This volume addresses such questions from different perspectives in order to (i) obtain a representative overview of the state of the art in the philosophical debate on paraconsistency, (ii) come up with fresh ideas for the future of paraconsistency, and most importantly (iii) provide paraconsistent logic with a stronger philosophical foundation, taking into account the developments within the different schools of paraconsistency.

Book Synopsis Semigroups and Their Applications by : Simon M. Goberstein
Download or read book Semigroups and Their Applications written by Simon M. Goberstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most papers published in this volume are based on lectures presented at the Chico Conference on Semigroups held on the Chico campus of the Cal ifornia State University on April 10-12, 1986. The conference was spon sored by the California State University, Chico in cooperation with the Engineering Computer Sciences Department of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The program included seven 50-minute addresses and seventeen 30-minute lectures. Speakers were invited by the organizing committee consisting of S. M. Goberstein and P. M. Higgins. The purpose of the conference was to bring together some of the leading researchers in the area of semigroup theory for a discussion of major recent developments in the field. The algebraic theory of semigroups is growing so rapidly and new important results are being produced at such a rate that the need for another meeting was well justified. It was hoped that the conference would help to disseminate new results more rapidly among those working in semi groups and related areas and that the exchange of ideas would stimulate research in the subject even further. These hopes were realized beyond all expectations.

Book Synopsis Kunihiko Kodaira, Volume I by : Kunihiko Kodaira
Download or read book Kunihiko Kodaira, Volume I written by Kunihiko Kodaira and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kunihiko Kodaira's influence in mathematics has been fundamental and international, and his efforts have helped lay the foundations of modern complex analysis. These three volumes contain Kodaira's written contributions, published in a large number of journals and books between 1937 and 1971. The volumes cover chronologically the major periods of Kodaira's mathematical concentration and reflect his collaboration with other prominent theoreticians. Thus they begin with early works that discuss the application of Hilbert space methods to differential equations, and the use of elementary solutions to prove regularity theorems for strongly elliptic systems of partial differential equations. Originally published in 1975. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
