This book was released on 2004-04-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 2004, focuses on the materials technologies that are key to the advancement of high-frequency devices. The competition for better-performing mobile phones is the main driving factor in this field. In mobile phones, passive components constitute 70-90% of the number of components, volume, and costs. The spirit of the volume is to bring together scientists in the processing, characterization, packaging, device design and applications of passive devices, to gain insight into the various paths along which technology of passive components is progressing. Topics include: improvements in low-temperature co-fired ceramics; microstructure - property relationships in perovskites for new materials compositions, with lower firing temperatures, for microwave dielectrics with high-quality factors; tunable ferroelectrics allowing low-cost solutions for frequency tuning and phase shifters; new integration platforms and packaging concepts; embedded capacitors; integration of RF switches based on MEMS technology; bulk acoustic wave resonators and above-chip integration.

Book Synopsis Thermoelectric Materials 2003: Volume 793 by : G. S. Nolas
Download or read book Thermoelectric Materials 2003: Volume 793 written by G. S. Nolas and published by . This book was released on 2004-03-17 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The measure of a thermoelectric material is given by the material's figure of merit. For over three decades the best thermoelectric materials had a ZT = 1. Recently, however, there are reports of new methods of materials synthesis that result in improvements beyond this performance. In addition, rapid characterization, as well as faster theoretical modeling of thermoelectric materials, has resulted in a more rapid evaluation of new materials. This book offers a look at these results and provides a benchmark for the current state in the field of thermoelectric materials research and development. The focus is on new and innovative directions that will lead to the next generation thermoelectric materials for small-scale refrigeration and power generation applications. The book emphasizes the multidisciplinary nature of the research needed to advance the science and technology of the field. Both theoretical and experimental studies are featured. Topics include: low-dimensional systems and nanocomposites; devices; oxides; skutterudites; complex bulk materials and measurements; novel approaches; and thermoelectric materials and technology.
Book Synopsis Materials, Technology and Reliability for Advanced Interconnects and Low-K Dielectrics - 2004 by : R. J. Carter
Download or read book Materials, Technology and Reliability for Advanced Interconnects and Low-K Dielectrics - 2004 written by R. J. Carter and published by . This book was released on 2004-09 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scaling of device dimensions with a simultaneous increase in functional density has imposed tremendous challenges for materials, technology, integration and reliability of interconnects. To meet requirements of the ITRS roadmap, new materials are being introduced at a faster pace in all functions of multilevel interconnects. The issues addressed in this book cannot be dispelled as simply selecting a low-k material and integrating it into a copper damascene process. The intricacies of the back end for sub-100nm technology include novel processing of low-k materials, employing pore-sealing techniques and capping layers, introducing advanced dielectric and diffusion barriers, and developing novel integration schemes. This is in addition to concerns of performance, yield, and reliability appropriate to nanoscaled interconnects. Although many challenges continue to impede progress along the ITRS roadmap, the contributions in this book confront them head-on. It provides a scientific understanding of the issues and stimulate new approaches to advanced multilevel interconnects.

Book Synopsis Silicon Carbide 2004 - Materials, Processing and Devices: Volume 815 by : Michael Dudley
Download or read book Silicon Carbide 2004 - Materials, Processing and Devices: Volume 815 written by Michael Dudley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-08-24 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicon carbide (SiC) is a wide-bandgap semiconductor that can operate at temperatures well above 300ºC, where silicon cannot perform. In addition, due to a high thermal conductivity equal to copper at room temperature, SiC is an ideal candidate for operation in harsh environments and at high-power levels. Rapid advances in SiC materials and devices have recently resulted in implementation of SiC-based electronic systems, and the impact of these devices is expected to significantly increase in the next several years. This book documents the most recent results on growth of bulk and epitaxial layers, physical and structural properties, process technology, and device development obtained since the 10th International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials 2003 (ICSCRM2003) held in Lyon, France. Extended defects in silicon carbide are highlighted. The nature of defects induced by forward biasing of bipolar devices, as well as methods to suppress the degradation, are addressed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on recent advances in nanostructured and nanophase materials and their applications. Nanostructured materials consist of domains of less than 100nm and include atom clusters and cluster assemblies, one- and two-dimensionally modulated layers and three-dimensional structures. The term 'nanophase' refers to structures comprised of domains or particles of a single material that are typically less than 100nm, whereas 'nanocomposite' refers to a composite of more than one nanophase. Nanoscale materials can be engineered as homogeneous or porous ceramics, metals, metal oxides, semiconductors, organic polymers, or as composite materials containing these components. This book brings together scientists from many disciplines to share and discuss advances in the field. Topics include: nanophase materials; nanocomposite materials; nanoporous materials; nanostructured materials; applications and properties of nanostructured materials; carbon nanotubes; nanostructured thin films and coatings; and theoretical and modeling studies of nanostructured materials.
