Book Synopsis The Function of Conference Organisers and the Marketing for Information Technology Seminars of Small and Medium-Sized Industries by : Karin Schneider
Download or read book The Function of Conference Organisers and the Marketing for Information Technology Seminars of Small and Medium-Sized Industries written by Karin Schneider and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 1999-09-03 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: As the European Union (EU) is getting bigger and the movement of people, capital, goods and services across the 15 participating countries is simplified, the European conference scene has been boosted with this enlarged competition. The latest knowledge and information have become vital economic assets of the information-driven society. While there are numerous ways to obtain this information, seminars are particularly attractive because they communicate desired knowledge quickly in a compact form. The major destination cities show increasing business, allied with enhanced competition, a toughening attitude amongst organisers and meeting planners as well as the need for improved marketing techniques. The use of cyberspace has gained an important influence on this sector. Due to increasing competition, services are under pressure to be improved, and the whole business of meeting is searching for higher standards. Definition of the subject "Information systems have /.../ aided the growth of multinational organizations by providing a technical infrastructure to smooth over the constraints of time and distance. /.../ The IT world is changing rapidly and the basic components of an IT infrastructure have grown in power and sophistication. This means looking at how the technology should operate in the organization and who should have responsibility for it." Especially in the liberalisation of the EU (and the connected internationalisation - addition C. S.) IT is "at the forefront of achieving competitive advantages." In the fast changing world of data processing not only IT managers, but also the business managers who work with computer technology and decide about the implementation of an IT system in their business have to be informed about the latest technical developments. An IT seminar is one of the most effective ways to gain this knowledge. Although the conference and seminar line has been booming on the national and international basis for several years, the research about it was difficult as a sufficient literature is still not available in this sector. Scientific material about fundamental questions or single problems is relatively rare. Continuing statistical data is very seldom found and a definition of the various meeting types do not exist. Several brochures with simple descriptions of the congress organisers and sites had to be taken into account. Process of the examination After comparing different [...]

Book Synopsis European Energy Industry Business Strategies by : Atle Midttun
Download or read book European Energy Industry Business Strategies written by Atle Midttun and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-04-20 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the European Union's de-regulation policy for electricity and energy suppliers was implemented, new strategic configurations have emerged. Traditional restraints of geographical limitations on energy companies have been partly removed: the diversity at national regulatory and company level means that the European scene is one of a multiplicity of strategic configurations and developments, whilst also being complex and segmented. This book highlights the strategic and regulatory challenges of European deregulation, with its main focus being on the business strategies within the emerging de-regulated electricity markets; various regulatory implications which are being raised in this new climate are discussed. Some of the central strategic issues facing the electricity industry in its new competitive context are explored and reviewed, with classical themes debated as a prelude to the following empirical investigation of actual business strategies pursued by the electricity and energy industries. The main section of this work consists of 7 national case studies of business strategies which also include one North and one South American case. These were considered important inclusions as the North American companies are large investors in the European market, whilst the European companies invest in the South American market. The final chapter is a comparison and summary of the national patterns of market structures, business strategies and regulatory styles with a brief look at some challenges to be faced in future.

Book Synopsis Business Ethics in Theory and Practice by : Patricia Werhane
Download or read book Business Ethics in Theory and Practice written by Patricia Werhane and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book originated in a symposium on business ethics that took place in the Faculty of Commerce at the University of Canterbury in September of 1997. Professor Werhane, who was a visiting Erskine Fellow, provided the keynote address, and many of the papers in this collection were originally presented at this symposium. We are grateful to Kluwer Publishers for the opportunity to publish these essays in their series on International Business Ethics. We want to thank the Olsson Center for Applied Ethics at the Darden School, University of Virginia, and the Erskine Trust and the Department of Management at the University of Canterbury for their support of Professor Werhane's fellowship, research for this text, and funding for its production. We especially want to thank Lisa Spiro, who copy-edited and prepared the manuscript for publication. INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW This book originated in a symposium on business ethics that took place in the faculty of commerce, at the University of Canterbury, in September 1997. Professor Werhane, who was a visiting Erskine Fellow, provided the keynote address. Contributions to the proceedings were. inter-disciplinary, spanning theory and practice. Subsequent contributions were obtained from within New Zealand and from Asia. The book starts off on rather a pessimistic note: the new managerialism (the kind of thing Scott Adams jokes about in the world-famous Dilbert cartoons) is economically suspect and psychologically damaging.
